FAST AND RESPONSIVE PROCEDURES HELP LAW FIRM WITH MASSIVE MULTINATIONAL CASE

BACKGROUND
As one of the world’s leading international law firms with over
25 offices in 15 countries, this company deals in many different
languages every day, servicing an impressive portfolio of clients
around the world.
This particular matter involved over 300 plaintiffs in one of
Europe’s biggest litigation battles.
The success of the case depended very heavily on the lawyer’s
ability to acquire a comprehensive and timely understanding
of foreign documentation before presenting their pleadings
before a high profile court.
THE CHALLENGE
Due to the prohibitive time constraints influencing this case,
quality and speed were of the absolute essence. Another
challenge was around the high security set up required for this
matter, with the client giving 4 days notice of the Spanish courts
ULG’s ability to adapt to any of its client’s demands, and scale up at the shortest notice impressed our client, who has since been using us as their preferred translation service provider.
THE SOLUTION
A Project Management team of experienced, Spanish mother
tongue linguists was flown to Madrid within 48 hours with a
fully comprehensive recruitment programme. The Operations
Manager assisted the team in setting up a 60-strong team of
English mother tongue translators and editors. The infrastructure
for the Temporary Team was organised by the IT Director of
ULG, who was also flown to Madrid and ensured that high
levels of security were maintained around the clock throughout
the duration of the project. As with all its clients from highly
specialised fields, ULG conducted a rigorous process of selecting
and testing the most experienced translators.
Over 70,000 words were turned around per day and the quality
was kept consistently high as teams of translators were working
simultaneously on the same documents. In addition, a team of
6 proof-readers working on a shift basis and available 24 hours
were on hand to ensure that quality checks and deliveries
could be made on a rolling basis. ULG’s ability to adapt to all
of its client’s demands, and scale up at the shortest notice was
so useful and impressive that the client has been using ULG
as their preferred translation service provider ever since.

Spanish soil only. No material was to be disseminated by email,
via secure websites or any other means outside of Spain. To
translate 800,000 words in 10 business days, the client required
a language service provider that could maintain tight focus and
had a seamless quality control procedure. United Language
Group had 4 days in which to recruit and set up teams of
Spa>Eng mother tongue translators, editors and proofreaders
with medical and legal expertise based in Spain.
Our client, one of the Magic Circle firms, was looking for a
guaranteed turnaround of highly sensitive reports, medical
records and witness statements in record time. Due to the case’s
sensitive nature it was evident that the solution would require
lateral thinking and flexible project management in addition to
translation expertise in the medical and litigation field.
The Firm required round-the-clock service as its client’s 2
billion pound case depended on knowledge gained from the
documents on an hourly basis. There was no room for error
or inaccuracy.
ULG had to react extremely quickly and consult with the client
to design a bespoke solution this project would require.
