With Koo Wee Rup expanding at the rate it is the

bus terminal needed upgrading, the land where it is

was first built on was just a dirt paddock, to endure

there was no corrosion and a solid foundation, rain

water needs to be drained away.

Requirements

• Materials needed to be strong enough to take the

weight of the gravel placed on top of it.

• Slots not to let grave pass into pipe.

• Connect to standard drainage fittings.

• Pipe to be 300 Stormwater corrugated pipe

• Rubber ring Joints.

• Carry specific amount OD water through it.

• Meet a specific open area.

• To be slotted to the drawings requirements

• Meet Collapse pressure strength

• Easily transported and light weight.

Solution

• The solution was to use 300mm

standard blackmax stormwater pipe

• Manufactured to Australian Standards

• Slot Pattern machined was 4mm slots by 3 rows

• The above specifications allowed the collection of

water from the surface at the rate required

• Meet Collapse Pressure

• The slotted pipe was machines on one our

automated slotters to the required pattern

• The slotted pipe was machined on one our amnaul

slotters to the required pattern specified

• Due to quantities being low it was decided to

machine the slots on the manual machine.

• By using Blackmax made handling was easier for

both parties, as this pipe comes in 6m lengths.

• It was decided to slot in-between the ribs of the

pipe to ensure maximum strength of the pipe.

• With the pipe being light, we could deliver the pipe

ourselves on a ute with pipe racks, keeping the

delivery time to a minimum.

• Find other suppliers in Australia

• Use standard slotted drain pipe that would not

meet the specifications.

• Use Imported cheap pipe.

• Slot pattern by using hand tools. Thus having

inconsistent slot width and patterns.

• If slotting each slot by hand held machine, run the

risk of having an accident and getting OHS

The End Result

After the successful installation of the drainage system

and completing the infrastructure, all drain water was

removed from the are and the ground could then be

surfaced without fear of damage from underlying

water.

All passengers are now loading on to the buses from

solid dry ground having little risk of slipping on wet

muddy ground.
