NMCA Journal 3 Third Quarter 2013

From the NMCA PresidentDr. Robert C. JonesDear Colleagues,

I thank all my colleagues for such a successful and productive 2013 state convention. I appreciate all the hard work done by Dr. Elaine Adams and Jaeni Aarden in bring-ing our bylaws and policies up to date and in order. I know this project was a year of hard work. I was very pleased to see the great participation at our annual business meeting for the association. I believe at this meeting we heard from more colleagues, giving their voice to important issues in our profession and state, than I can remember occurring for some time. I believe it is accurate to state that the message I heard from the vast majority of our colleagues is our profes-sion needs to be progressive and proactive in the areas of scope of practice, insurance reform (better access, equitable co-pays, equitable reimbursement) and greater tolerance within our profession for differing schools of thought.

Linda Siegle, our lobbyist, has been arranging meetings with insurance companies to continue discussions sur-rounding high co-payments and inequitable reimbursement. These talks follow the recent legislation surrounding these issues that was championed by Dr. Michael Pridham. Linda has also been working on access to Medicaid. The Medicaid issue is very important in our ability to access patients with the upcoming healthcare reform that rolls out in 2014. There are lots of questions and legalities surrounding this issue be-cause Section 2706 of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) states there cannot be discrimination between providers for access and reimbursement as long as the procedure is within the scope of practice of the provider. It is believed at the federal level that if a state uses federal monies to help

with their healthcare pro-grams all licensed providers can participate. This certainly is not how our state is running at this time with regards to federal monies being used in Medicaid. NMCA leadership has been having meetings to present the case that chiro-practic can help with primary care conditions like lower back pain, neck pain and headaches more effectively and more cost efficiently than they are being treated now. This fact, along with our profession being the leading profession in preventative and wellness care, needs to be recognized and utilized by all insurance identities involved with progressing the insurance reform.

In order to make possible our participation in healthcare reform we have to be more willing to integrate and com-municate with other provider types in healthcare. Other healthcare providers must see us as part of the team that is working towards the solutions in the complex problems our society is having in the present healthcare delivery system. To this end, we all need to do our part.

I thank you all for re-electing me into the position of president. It is my opinion you have elected a hard working board that has the entire professions’ best interest in their hearts. Our collective goal is to make New Mexico the best state to practice in as a chiropractor.

From the Executive Director…staff. Great thanks go to so many for their help in making our convention a special weekend!!

Dr. Ben Markham, Education Committee Chair, and Dr. Michael Pendleton, Convention Committee Chair, both worked tirelessly during the weekend to make sure the AV was in order, the speakers were taken care of and the exhibi-tors that were speaking got to their spot on time! Those are some of the things that make the weekend run smoothly and pleasantly for everyone. They are very important jobs that need doing and Drs. Markham and Pendleton always do a superb job!! Great thanks go to both of them!!!

Great thanks go to Helen Casey and the ladies from the Albuquerque Convention Center for making registration a

Dear Doctors of Chiropractic:Following is an update of what has been going on and

what is coming within the NMCA.

MembershipMembership renewals went very well. We have about 270

confirmed members for 2013. We look forward to serving NM Chiropractors for another great year and thank each and every one of you that is, or becomes, a member for sup-porting your association!!

Convention 2013The 2013 NMCA Annual Convention turned out to be

a GREAT event! We had some wonderful speakers, great exhibitors and a full house of Doctors of Chiropractic and

much more pleasant experience for everyone! These ladies are professionals and really know what they are doing! Helen has been working with me for about seven years now and her help before and during the convention is invaluable!

Of course, incredible thanks go to all of our speakers…Dick Versendaal, DC, DCRC, DACBN, Gregg Friedman, DC, CCSP, FIACA, Terry Robert Yochum, DC, DACR, Fellow, ACCR, FICC, Kim Christensen, DC, DACRB, CCSP, CSCS, and Robert J. Sinnot, DC, LCP, DPhCS, FPhC. All of these speakers gave wonderful presentations of great value to our doctors! We were honored to have had them!!

To our exhibitors, we give our tremendous gratitude for their presence and for making the weekend much more fun for our doctors! As you know, the Annual Convention is free with your membership so the exhibitors that attend help cover the cost of bringing you a great weekend. We really appreciate all of you for being with us and for making the weekend a great success!!

A highlight of our convention turned out to be the General Assembly business meeting. We had our Parliamentarian, Daniel Ivey-Soto, back again this year and he handled the business portion of the meeting beautifully. We passed a new set of Rules/Bylaws for the association that brought us up-to-date in our way of doing business. Great thanks to Mr. Ivey-Soto for his help on the Rules/Bylaws and at the time of general assembly! The attendance at the luncheon meeting was really terrific. During the first years that I worked for the NMCA, we were lucky to have 20 to 30 in attendance. This year we had closer to 200 people, DCs, staff and exhibitors, that stayed throughout the meeting. Thanks to all of you for your participation!!

A new Executive Committee was elected with Dr. Robert Jones as President, Dr. David Peer as Vice President, Dr. JC Moore as Secretary and Dr. John Dalton as Treasurer. Thanks to them for being willing to serve as leaders in their profession and thanks to all of our doctors for electing them.

Again, thanks to everyone for your attendance at our convention and for your participation in the business of the NMCA! The NMCA is extremely grateful to each and every one of you for all that you do for your profession!

Convention 2014Our 2014 Annual Convention is well in the works!

We have booked the Sandia Resort and Casino for May 16, 17 & 18, 2014. We realize that this weekend is a bit later than we usually have our convention but the hotels were booked for all the other weekends we considered. We are considering some exciting presentations for next year and ask that you save the weekend and join us for another great event!! Details on the convention will be coming soon

and you will be able to get that information off our web site at www.nmchiro.org!! Stay tuned!!

NMCA BylawsOur new NMCA Rules/Bylaws are complete and up on

our web site in the “members only” section. It was a long process to get them up-to-date but well worth the time and effort. Dr. Elaine Adams and Daniel Ivey-Soto deserve a great deal of thanks for all the work they did to accomplish this major revision. Thanks to our members for reviewing them and adding their input and vote! All in all, it was a learning experience for all of us!!

NMCA Journal 5 Third Quarter 2013

Message from the PresidentIt is so fitting that I find myself writing this letter on our

Independence Day. This year has been very challenging for me. My time and energy have been focused on trying to improve my career, my profession, my association, my state, and my country. The NMCA has given me an outlet to express my idea of what healthcare could be. I am so proud to be working with our Independent Practice Association.

The honor that comes with the title of President of the Health Improvement Network is balanced with the humility that it takes to help lead it. I wish everyone in the association knew how much work has gone into this project. Dr. Marc Girod along with the Board of Directors, our Executive Di-rector Ralph McClish, and all the shareholders have created the possibility of something transformative in the healthcare environment of tomorrow in New Mexico.

Our IPA has had its challenges as every good fight should have. I mean what’s a race without some hills and valleys? We should not be afraid of the challenges as they arise, we should only be thinking about how to overcome them. We all entered this profession to help our loved ones and to make a difference in the world, so why not be unified in that intention.

We are within months of the most radical overhaul of the United States’ healthcare system in 100 years, and I have such excitement about the possibilities that we have before us! The time is here to decide if you want to be on your own in this environment of transformation or if you will stand with us in solidarity. It will help us all if you become part

of our vision and bring your talents and ideas to our table.Right now we have motions in play that will help to secure

our place in Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and Account-able Care Organizations (ACOs). These entities are the ways forward in the new healthcare system, and our participation these organizations will ensure that the people who need our services the most will have access to chiropractic care.

Many are apprehensive of the change that the new health-care system will bring about and I understand why. Imagine the new healthcare system as a steep, snow covered scary mountain. Some might never think about going near it and would not ever consider climbing it. However if you have experts with the right training and expertise, it is possible to not only climb it, but also to ski down it. I was raised in Norway as a child and started skiing before I could talk, so skiing analogies make sense to me. When I think about something that seems too difficult to overcome, I think about all the mountains that I have successfully conquered, and that gives me the courage to move on.

There is no mountain that we cannot conquer if we act as one. Please consider joining with us if you have not al-ready done so, and let’s take this ride down the mountain together. We can change the state for the better. Thank you to all who continue to support our mission. We could not do this without you!

Sincerely,Michael Pridham, DC-APC

What Happened To Ethics and Morals In Chiropractic?Robert C. Jones, DC, APC

I am deeply saddened and outraged by events that have recently occurred and wish to bring them to your attention so that you are aware of them from the President of the NMCA and not as hearsay and gossip. Unfortunately, these recent events have demonstrated that some members of our profession have thrown ethics and morals out the window.

The ICA, during our last legislation session, distributed a letter signed by then President Walsemann that cited Statute 61-4-10, in which he says, “The board may refuse to issue or may suspend or revoke any license …upon the grounds that the licensee or applicant” “(16) is guilty of unprofessional conduct that includes, but is not limited to the following: ‘(a) procuring, aiding or abetting a criminal abortion’”

Walsemann’s letter then goes on to construct a deceptive interpretation of the law, apparently in order to fabricate a perverse implication to this statute:

• “Implications: (Walsemann’s version) Participating in a non-criminal abortion could be acceptable under Board rules providing for the same.”

In a more recent article distributed by similar minded colleagues, Dr. Bill Doggett is accused of stating that APC chiropractors in New Mexico are going to be performing intra-vaginal regenerative injections as soon as they are able again to use PRP procedures. (APC chiropractors were able to do PRP procedures until the litigation against the NM Board of examiners which the ICA joined with the medical board and pharmacy board.) A link to a website of a cosmetic surgeon who is performing this procedure is graphic in nature. It is obvious to me that this article, and the graphic website, were intended to be inflammatory and provocative in nature and to discredit Dr. Doggett and the APC program.

Let’s examine these two issues. First, the statute that provides license revocation, suspension, or censure for a DC who participates in a criminal abortion predates Advanced Practice by many years. It has absolutely nothing to do with Advanced Practice, nor does it imply that a DC can do a non-criminal abortion. Quite frankly, it is my opinion that this is the ICA’s way of looking for something provocative and inflammatory that simply does not exist. To me, this behavior on the part of the ICA leadership is immoral and unethical. The same goes for the accusations against Dr. Doggett. He is quoted as saying that DC’s will be able to one day again perform PRP procedures, which is true and in his own words. This is then followed by wording from the website of the vaginal injection site to make it look like Bill is saying that APC’s can do these vaginal procedures. This is cut and paste to a devious degree meant to impugn Dr. Doggett and for the reader to imply something that is patently untrue. This should make us all angry, as it does me. Both of these articles are now circulating within the medical

society, medical board, legislative bodies and the Governor’s office. The political sensitivity of the subject matter is caus-ing our profession to be seen in a poor light. It is my opinion that some of the ICA leadership and their accomplices are distributing this misleading and contrived subject matter to justify their political agenda. It is a sad commentary that part of our profession, specifically the ICA leadership and some of their accomplices, are willing to go to any length to prevent another part of our profession from advancing and developing. These individuals sanctimoniously declare that such progression departs from what they consider to be inviolable principles. Their attempts to thwart the scope of practice for Advanced Practice regulations stand in the way of licensed professionals that are desiring additional clinical tools for the good of the patient.

For those of you who can remember the Wilk vs. AMA trial, you will remember that the AMA stated that they did not need to destroy the chiropractic profession because the profession’s infighting will destroy it. Based on the incidents cited above involving the leader of the ICA and certain accomplices, I think the AMA might be correct. Recent conversations emanating from the Governor’s office and discussions I’ve had with medical colleagues have clearly demonstrated that the distribution of the misinformation and falsehoods contained in these articles has cast our entire profession in an unflattering light. This has resulted in adversely impacting those officials and representatives with whom we need to maintain strong, workable relationships.

We can no longer afford to accommodate the unprofes-sional and corrupt conduct of those that spread lies and rumors for their own political gain. I hope the bold voices I heard at the recent annual meeting will speak up and let those that write this unethical, immoral, hurtful, and professionally damaging nonsense know it is time to stop their unprincipled attacks on the chiropractic profession. We must stand together to allow our profession to grow, to embrace all clinical methods and theories that are ethical, legal and beneficial to the patient. Our profession has the intellectual capacity and ethical grounding to accommodate all the clinical practice styles and, by having diversity in our profession, we can help a greater portion of society’s health needs. I sincerely hope that we will choose the path that allows our profession to thrive and flourish, and that we will shun the infighting and backstabbing that the AMA has predicted will defeat us. I commit to you that I will do everything in my power to support mature tolerance and the judicious advancement of the chiropractic profession. To fulfill this commitment, I will continue to openly condemn the conduct of those that are working from within to destroy our great profession with lies, rumor and baseless innuendo. I invite you to join me.

SpondylolysisBy Dr. David W. Peer

A 48 year old female presented to my clinic with a chief complaint of low back pain and spasms that she was rating as 8 out of 10 on the Ackerman Functional Pain Assessment Scale. 4 weeks prior to our appoint-ment she had awaked one morning feeling fine. After a shower she was seated putting her socks on when she felt excruciating pain and spasm in her low back and was unable to stand up. After several hours of ly-ing on ice she presented to Dr. Tim Grenemeyer who “adjusted her sacrum” and recommended that she see a chiropractor. I took these radiographs in my office.

This woman could not remember any prior history of trauma or activity or episode of low back pain that could explain the x-ray findings. She is neurologically intact in her lower extremities. She has that charac-teristic palpable “step defect” in the lumbar spinous processes.

For those of us who had the pleasure of attending Dr. Terry Yochum’s lecture at the annual convention, we were treated to 3 hours and forty five minutes of incredible chiropractic stories and 15 minutes of very useful information on Spondylolysis. It was very important to Dr. Yochum that we realize that Spondy-lolysis is STABLE. I remember him saying “don’t make spondylolytic invalids out of your patients!”

I’m happy to report that this woman is completely pain free in 8 treatments that included side posture lumbar adjusting, Cox flexion-distraction to address the degenerative disc aspect of this condition, core stability exercise rehabilitation done in my office and home decompression stretching using a physioball.

This woman is very compliant and motivated and is turning into quite the “core addict.” She has become empowered by the exercise rehabilitation aspect of her treatment plan and has joined a local gym where she is changing her body every time I see her! I have no doubt that she will maintain the benefits of her Chiro-practic care and newfound strength. She has become a dedicated maintenance care patient.

Jaeni Aarden, the Executive Director of the NMCA has asked that we change the feel and approach of the NMCA Journal to include the sharing of Chiropractic success cases by NMCA members. I look forward to seeing your wonderful cases in future issues of the NMCA Journal.

ACA ReportRobert C. Jones, DC, APC ACA NM Delegate

The ACA has been working hard at the national level on many fronts. The major thrust of their efforts is full inclusion of chiropractic services, full scope of practice, in Medicare and the Affordable Care Act. To date the ACA has spent in excess of $500,000.00 in lobbying fees to be able to speak to the key players of these issues. No other chiropractic associa-tion has spent even a tenth that amount on serving our entire profession. The future viability of our profession’s ability to participate in these federal programs in a meaningful way is dependent upon the success of the ACA’s lobbying efforts. If you are not a member of the ACA please consider being a part of our profession’s future by joining and supporting our efforts. You can join at http://www.acatoday.org or you can contact me directly.

Here are some of the other projects the ACA is working on for the collective good of our profession.

With the recent U.S. Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on S. 422, the committee is poised to soon consider this legislation, which directs the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to expand the number of sites where the ser-vices provided by a Doctor of Chiropractic are available. S. 422, the Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act introduced by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), mir-rors House legislation in calling for the VA to phase in the essential services provided by doctors of chiropractic to all major VA medical facilities over the next several years. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Contact your Senators via ACA’s ChiroVoice Legislative Action Center network and urge them to cosponsor S. 422. The more cosponsors we get on S. 422, the greater the likelihood of its success.

New 1500 Claim Form Receives Final ApprovalOn June 17, the National Uniform Claim Committee

(NUCC) announced final approval of the Version 02/12 1500 Claim Form by the Office of Management and Budget. NUCC began revisions of the 1500 claim form in 2009 in order to accommodate reporting needs for ICD-10 and Version 5010. A detailed list of the differences between Version 08/05 (the current form) and the new form, Version 02/12, can be found here. CMS implementation dates are as follows, but please note that these dates are subject to change (check with commercial payers to verify whether they will adhere to the same timeline):

• January 6, 2014: Medicare begins receiving and process-ing paper claims submitted on the revised CMS 1500 claim form (version 02/12).

• January 6 through March 31, 2014: Dual use period during which Medicare continues to receive and process paper claims submitted on the old CMS 1500 claim form (version 08/05).

• April 1, 2014: Medicare receives and processes paper claims submitted only on the revised CMS 1500 claim form (version 02/12).Providers should also review NUCC’s Reference In-

struction Manual for Form Version 02/12 to familiarize themselves with the new format prior to implementation. ACA will have further updates for members as information becomes available.

Status Report: Health Insurance ExchangesLast month, several articles were published across the

country on the issue of state health exchanges. The Wash-ington Post published an article discussing how states are running out of time to set up health exchanges before the October 1 deadline. However, in the Wall Street Journal, officials from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) claimed that government officials have also missed several deadlines to set up health insurance exchanges for small businesses and consumers--a key part of the federal health overhaul. In addition to these potential delays, the New York Times recently published an article indicating that health plans may vary significantly from state to state. ACA will continue to actively oversee the implementation of health insurance exchanges. Follow health care reform at www.acatoday.org/hcr and be sure to become familiar with the latest issue brief on cost effectiveness regarding essential services provided by doctors of chiropractic.

ACA Member to Become Rep. for USBJIACA member John Ventura, DC, was appointed as ACA’s

representative for the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) earlier last month. The USBJI is a multi-disciplinary initia-tive targeting the care of people with musculoskeletal, bone and joint disorders. Its focus is on improving quality of life as well as advancing the understanding and treatment of those conditions through research, prevention and education. Congratulations, Dr. Ventura! (Dr. Ventura replaces Paul Dougherty, DC, who served on the USBJI with distinction for many years.)

AMA Reappoints Two ACA Members To Advisory Committee

ACA Wisconsin Delegate, Leo Bronston, DC, and long-time ACA Coding and Reimbursement Committee member, Craig Little, DC, were recently reappointed to AMA’s CPT Health Care Professionals Advisory Committee (HCPAC) through 2016 as Alternate CPT Advisor and CPT Advisor, respectively. The CPT HCPAC works with the CPT Editorial Panel to add, modify and delete CPT codes. This position requires an expert in the area of coding, and Drs. Bronston and Little are exceptional assets for the profession and as-sociation in this role. In their previous term, both doctors provided insight and guidance when called upon.

Committee that would repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and reform the Medicare physician payment system. As previously noted, the draft language for the bill was intentionally left incomplete as lawmakers said they wanted more feedback from provider groups and other stakeholders. ACA has submitted comments and expressed concerns regarding the recognition of DCs as physicians in the future statute, patient access to the provider of their choice and aligning incentives across the health care system.

ACA’S Outreach to Investigative Community Leads to More Communication

ACA had the privilege of speaking at the National Insur-ance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) regional conference earlier this spring in Fairfax, VA. In attendance were approximately 100 investigators and intelligence analysts from various companies and agencies. ACA member Steven Baker, DC, delivered a dynamic and thought-provoking presentation on proper vs. improper practice standards, appropriate billing and documentation. It’s becoming more apparent that ACA’s long-term efforts to reach out to the investigative community continue to pay increasing dividends. Since the meeting, five investigators have contacted ACA’s Insurance Relations Department with questions regarding informa-tion on chiropractic care. Learn more about ACA’s efforts by contacting [email protected].

New Patient Fact Sheet Available; ACA Credibility Growing Among Payers

Recently, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT) reached out to ACA’s Vermont Local Liaison, Eric Hemmett, DC, requesting information about chiropractic services that it could share with its membership. ACA’s Communications Department swiftly designed a new patient handout provid-ing an overview of the profession. This unforeseen request by BCBSVT illustrates the growing success of the ACA’s Local Liaison Program and its growing cultural authority among payers. Recently, the Huffington Post published an article in its “Healthy Living” section highlighting ACA’s efforts, along with other supporters of alternative medicine, to ensure non-discriminatory access to alternative care. The article references Sen. Tom Harkin’s efforts with ACA as he and other lawmakers drafted Section 2706 of the Patient Pro-tection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The article then goes on to discuss many of the barriers in place that could limit access to these alternative services – even after Section 2706 becomes law of the land in 2014.

Third Quarter 2013 12 NMCA Journal

NMCA Political Action Committeeenjoying that family would be quite a struggle. We all do take our right to practice as a given and we don’t give it much thought. We may think that the only thing that matters is how much of a difference we make with our patients, yet our right to practice and our stature in the healthcare com-munity is all a byproduct of political activity.

We in the PAC will continue to do the grunt work inside and outside of the Roundhouse, but we just can’t do it ourselves. Over the years, we have organized campaigns to contact your legislators, and VERY FEW ACTUALLY HAVE DONE SO. Something tells me that if an end result of meeting your legislators would be that they would give you money, then everyone would do it. Well, getting to know your legislators is like receiving money from them. The relation-ships created go a long way to ensuring effective advocacy for our profession in the legislature where it counts. They are giving you money in that we reap the often times financial rewards of these relationships. I’m asking you to see this connection and understand its value in your life. If we all did this, we would yield enormous power in the legislature to get what we want.

We are undervalued and our monetary value in the healthcare marketplace reflects that. The only way we are going to be truly valued as physicians, and not just as back crackers, is to teach our legislators who we are. This requires all of us to participate. All you have to do is step forward and ask how you can help. I invite you to do that and make our profession in New Mexico one that is understood and respected. It’s going to take you to do that. Please do for all of us. The PAC contribution form is enclosed in this Journal. Please use it.

Thank you.Steve Perlstein, DC, APCChair, NMCA PAC

The NMCA PAC continues to remain active and engaged with the issues important to all chiropractors in New Mexico. We have had on our agenda over the past year three issues: primary care for advanced practice DC’s, copay equality, and Medicaid reimbursement. The session that begins this com-ing January is a 30 days session, meaning that the Governor decides what gets introduced. As of now, we are not sure if any of our issues will get the time of day for that session, so our plans are always for the next 60 day session in 2015, when anything goes. We will continue to keep you informed.

Many have asked me how they can help. There are es-sentially two GIANT ways anyone can help get our voice heard in the state legislature. The first is to get to know your legislators. Everyone, based on their home address, has two, a House of Representatives member and a Senator. You can find yours at the New Mexico Legislature website, which is http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/. The more DC’s who befriend their legislators, the more our legislators look to us for direction on issues that matter to us. This sounds like dry, uninteresting stuff, like it’s only for those geeks who like politics. Actually, all you have to like are the results from po-litical activity. The other way is to donate money to the PAC in order for the PAC to pay for our lobbyist and to contribute to legislative campaigns. By the way, our resources, because of few contributions from all of us, are dwindling. One day we will no longer be able to hire a lobbyist or contribute to political campaigns. If you think that this doesn’t matter, you are dangerously incorrect. This scenario is coming un-less you help.

I know how easy it is to figure that those who like this sort of thing will do the work and that you’ve got more important things to do such as build/sustain a practice and raise/enjoy a family. Just don’t forget that without an advocate for this profession of ours and a watchdog against those trying to tear us down you would not have a practice at all and maybe

Brain Chemistry-it is not all in your head: The NeuroEndocrine Connection Revisited

Neuroscience is not about the brain in a jar. At almost every turn, Neuroscience looks at how the brain interacts with the world, including the inanimate objects of our environment, other biological agents (people) and also the impact of societies, histories and futures, culture, language, music, etc. The brain is a highly dynamic environment and requires functional assessment tools and advanced nutrition protocols to equip the discerning Practitioner with proven solutions to many common complaints and disorders.

The biology of the brain includes both the concrete functions of regulating the body like our many organ systems as well as the less tangible elements of existence, which include emotion, mental and psychological dimensions as well as spirituality. Nothing is registered, nothing is experienced, unless this phenomena becomes manifest in the biochemical occurrences within the brain. The brain is essentially the nexus for the impact and responses to all of Life’s influences; causal and incidental.

Environmental toxicity, high stress lifestyle and hormonal imbalance all have a profound impact on brain biology. Combined, these endocrine disturbances accumulatively will have a substantive impact and sometimes profoundly disruptive effect on health. VISION STATEMENT of the NEW MEXICO CHIROPRACTIC

ASSOCIATIONThe Vision of the New Mexico Chiropractic Association is

to have every Chiropractor in the State of New Mexico as a member, working together to expand and protect the rights of the chiropractic profession.

The NMCA needs every chiropractor in the state involved and united in order to combat any loss of chiropractic rights as they now stand, to stop any infringement by other profes-sions into areas that are traditionally chiropractic in nature, to provide pathways for chiropractors to expand their areas of expertise in order to service their patient population to the fullest, to educate the public as to the value and benefit of chiropractic care, and to provide easy access to chiropractors within the health care industry.

The NMCA is the only organization in the state that can accomplish the above work. This work cannot, however, be accomplished without the required funds and without the necessary people to follow through. Therefore, the NMCA needs a large and actively involved membership. No matter what part of the state you call home, if the Practice Act for Chiropractors changes, you will be affected—for better or for worse, depending on whose changes are adopted. Help us make the changes that occur, changes that you want to see occur, changes that will enhance your profession.

In summary, the NMCA Vision is to have the total par-ticipation and backing of the entire chiropractic community in New Mexico toward the enhancement of the chiropractic profession while protecting the rights of chiropractors to treat patients within the expertise of their training and licensure. Please help us make this Vision a reality!!
