1.0 INTRODUCTION

At the request of Dominion Doors & Windows Ltd., Exova was retained to evaluate the physical performance of a casement window identified as “3000 Series – 3-1/4" Frame with Colonial Sash”, in accordance with AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08 Standard, “NAFS – North American Fenestration Standard/Specification for windows, doors, and skylights” and A440S1-09 Canadian Supplement, as outlined in proposal number 17-006-521203.

Tests results reported herein qualify similar sash & frame window profiles including glass stop profiles for double & triple glazed units, verified by Vision Extrusions’ consultant. See die drawings in Appendix A.

2.0 SAMPLE DESCRIPTION The following sample description has been verified by Exova. Details and drawings of the described test specimen, as provided by the manufacturer, have been included in Appendix A. Product Type: Casement Window

Frame: Casement, Extruded PVC, 805 mm x 1505 mm x 83 mm (31.69" x 59.25" x 3.25"). Sash: Open Out, Extruded PVC, 763 mm x 1463 mm x 63 mm (30.04" x 57.60" x 2.49").

Joinery: Frame: Welded, mitred corners. Sash: Welded, mitred corners.

Installation:

Test buck: Wood buck Fasteners: Frame fastened to buck with nine #8 x 2" pan head screws, four per jamb, 420

mm (16.54") c/c, one at the head, mid-span. Sealant: Exterior and interior frame perimeters sealed with flexible sealant.

Glazing Type: One, dual glazed, annealed, overall thickness 22.2 mm (0.86"), glass thickness 3

mm (0.12"), gas cavity size 15.9 mm (0.63"), air filled, aluminum spacer, dual sealed, clear.

Glazing Method: Laid in dry glazed, flexible sealant at glazing corners, heel bead, 178 mm (7.00")

long at the bottom corner of glazing cavities. Glazing Stop: Extruded PVC, interior perimeter. Co-extruded Fin: Flexible PVC, 2 rows, interior perimeter, at glazing stop.

Flexible PVC, 1 row, dual, exterior perimeter, at glazing upstanding leg. Setting block: Foam/Rubber, ten, 38.1 mm x 19.1 mm x 4.8 mm (1.50" x 3/4" x 3/16"), three at

the bottom rail, 55 mm (2.17") from the ends and 100 mm (3.94") from the hinge stile, four at the hinge stile, 110 mm (4.33"), 195 mm (7.68"), 980 mm (38.58"), and 1025 mm (40.35") from the bottom rail, three at the lock stile, 100 mm (3.94"), 695 mm (27.36"), and 775 mm (30.51") from the bottom rail.


Drainage/Ventilation:

Frame: None Drain Hole: One, 3.2 mm (0.13") diameter, sill, at mid-span.

Sash: Drain Slot: Two, 12.8 mm x 2.7 mm (0.50" x 0.11"), bottom glazing cavity, 40 mm (1.57") from

the ends. Two, 12.8 mm x 2.7 mm (0.50" x 0.11"), bottom rail, 20 mm (0.79") from the ends.

Drain Notch: Two, 25.4 mm (1.00"), bottom rail, fin, 50 mm (1.97") from the ends.

Weather-Stripping: Frame:

Bulb: Flexible PVC, 2 row, 6.4 mm (0.25") diameter, inner and outer perimeters. Sash:

Fin: PVC, 1 row, single, 9.5 mm (0.37") high, outer edge.

Hardware: Operator: Dual-arm, cast metal, sill, 175 mm (6.89") from hinge jamb, fastened to sill with

eight #10 x 3/4" flat head screws, sealed with foam gasket and flexible sealant at sill upstanding leg. Metal track, 368 mm (14.50") long, fastened to bottom rail with three #10 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Stud Bracket: L-shaped, steel, one, 76 mm x 35 mm x 14 mm (3" x 1.38" x 0.55"), bottom rail at hinge stile, fastened with four #10 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Lock: Multi-point, cast metal with PVC back plate, one, lock jamb, 160 mm (6.30") from sill, fastened with two #10-24 x 5/8" pan head screws, sealed with foam gasket.

Tie Bar: Steel, one, 1375 mm (54.13") long with four rollers, 77 mm (3.03") from sill. Tie Bar Guides: Plastic, three, lock jamb, 105 mm (4.13"), 760 mm (29.92"), and 1385 mm (54.53")

from sill, each fastened with two #8 x 1" pan head screws. Keepers: Metal, three, lock stile, 55 mm (2.17"), 710 mm (27.95"), and 1335 mm (52.56")

from bottom rail, each fastened with two #10 x 1/2" flat head screws. Interlocking Snubbers:

Plastic, three, hinge jamb, 215 mm (8.46") from ends and one at the mid-span, each set fastened with four #10 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Hinges: Steel, two, 178 mm (7.00") long, top and bottom rails at hinge stile, each set fastened with eight #10 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Sash Guide: Plastic, one, sill, 17 mm x 15 mm x 10 mm (0.67" x 0.59" x 0.39"), 60 mm (2.36") from lock jamb, fastened with one #10 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Screen: Aluminium, 700 mm x 1398 mm x 12.7 mm (27.56" x 55.04" x 0.50"), cold rolled

frame, external plastic corner key, fiberglass mesh, round spline, supported on all 4 sides.

Spring clip: PVC, two, bottom rail, at corner keys. Stationary clip: PVC, two, top rail, at corner keys.

4.0 MODIFICATIONS

The following modification was made to the Dominion Doors & Windows Ltd., casement window “3000 Series – 3-1/4" Frame with Colonial Sash”, Exova Specimen No.: 17-06-M0260-2, during testing to achieve the results stated in this report:

• Water Penetration Test:

- Partial heel bead of flexible sealant was applied at the bottom rail/jamb corners, 203 mm (8.00") in the glazing cavity beneath the glass stops.

- Cap bead of flexible sealant was applied at the sill/jamb corners, 203 mm (8.00") at the glass stop fins.

- The three keepers were adjusted to 55 mm (2.17"), 710 mm (27.95"), and 1335 mm (52.56") from the bottom rail.

- The two original snubber was replaced with a new snubber and one additional snubber was installed. The snubbers were located 215 mm (8.46") from ends and one at the mid-span.

- Two 25.4 mm (1.00") drain notches were cut-out at the fin at the bottom of the sash, located 50 mm (1.97") from the ends.

- One 3.2 mm (0.13") diameter drain hole was cut-out at the sill located at the mid-span.


5.0 CONCLUSIONS

Based on the results of the testing summarized in Tables 1, Dominion Doors & Windows Ltd., casement window “3000 Series – 3-1/4" Frame with Colonial Sash”, Exova Specimen No.: 17-06-M0260-2 met the following requirements as outlined in the AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440-08 standard and A440S1-09 Canadian Supplement. Tests results reported herein qualify similar sash & frame window profiles including glass stop profiles for double & triple glazed units, verified by Vision Extrusions’ consultant.
