THE MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND IS A VICTORIAN ICON AND THE CENTREPIECE OF AUSTRALIA’S SPORTING PRECINCT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE GREAT SOUTHERN STAND AT A FIRST- RATE LEVEL, IT UNDERWENT REFURBISHMENT JUST 20 YEARS AFTER IT WAS FIRST OPENED.

The upgrade of the Great Southern Stand was funded by the Victorian Government and the Melbourne Cricket Club, in order to improve the patron experience across all four levels of the stand.

Rutledge AV was commissioned for the supply, installation, and integration of audio visual systems for the redevelopment of the MCG’s Great Southern Stand. The refurbishment included upgrades to food and beverage areas, concourses and toilets, improved entry points, and updating function rooms and sports bars. Equipment installed includes LCD displays, improved digital signage, wall-mounted touchscreen control panels, upgraded switchboards and loudspeakers, microphones, hearing loop amplifiers, lectern outlets and inputs, projectors and projection screens, ethernet wireless access points, and All-in-One HD Integrated Pan-Tilt Cameras.

Sports bars were constructed with several large video walls that allow live video streaming of the Games outside on the ground.

All meeting rooms have mutable LCDs and drop down projector and screens installed.

A focus of the project was the installation of Crestron gear enabling digital media switching into sports bars, meeting rooms, and function rooms. Four 32 x 32 switches and two 16 x16 matrix switches were installed , allowing for the streaming of several separate inputs such as local presentations from laptop computers and live video, to be routed and viewed from all displays or a selection of displays in the rooms.

An upgrade to the back-of-house and concourse audio system was also undertaken to allow distribution of public paging and announcements. This also formed part of the evacuation system for the complete stadium.
