CL89 Update-

The Clark Johns—Joe Ste-phens Memorial Scholarship com-mittee received a record 37 applica-tions for this year’s award. There are many deserving candidates and the committee has their work cut out for them. The results will be announced before 30 May.

The Memorial Drive roadside clean-up cooperative effort with Queen City Lodge #761 is in need of addi-tional brothers (and family mem-bers) to assist in the cleanup.

It’s that time of year again. The PM’s have decreed it is time for them to chase chickens, pull some pork and dish it out to support our Widows and Orphans Fund. This is the biggest fund raiser we have and

it supports the cornerstone charity of our Lodge. The Annual Widows & Orphans BBQ has been set for Saturday, 10 June. That is only 8 weeks away. A letter with tickets and information will be in the mail before the end of the month.

We appreciate all you do for the craft, public and private; whether it be long distance support, being a role model to society or just helping that person who needs a hand up. We don’t always realize the effect we have on the people around us as we go about our daily activities. The TN Grand Lodge website has a great goals and objective state-ment. To HELP, AID and ASSIST within the length of our cable tow, to provide for the necessities of worthy Master Masons, their wives and children, widows and orphans is the most sacred obligation resting on every Lodge and upon every Master Mason worthy of the title which has been conferred upon him.

York Rite Bodies - The Clarksville York Rite bod-

ies gained four new members at the Middle TN York Rite Festival held at Nashville over the 10th and 11th of March. Companions and Sir Knights Michael Loving, Ron Robinson, Jeffrey Hancock and Wyatt Wilburn joined the ranks of Clarksville Chap-ter #3 Royal Arch Masons, Council #105 Cryptic Masons and Com-mandery #8 Knights Templar.

Order of the Eastern Star - Mary Morrison Chapter #500

OES held their Installation of 2017 Officers ceremony on March 25.

Worthy Matron Donna (DeeDee) Parsell and Worthy Patron David Parsell take the reins of MM500 from Joni Lorden PWM and Mike Lorden PWP.

WM DeeDee started her year in the East with a visit to Br Kenneth Hayes PWP who is recuperating at Clarksville Manor Convalescent Cen-ter following a fall at home.

Br Hayes is scheduled to be re-leased Saturday, April 8th.

National Sojourners /Heroes of 76 -

Ft Campbell Chapter #177 in-ducted three new members in March. Brothers Larry Alford, Charles Griffin and Michael Wilker-son became the newest members of the chapter in a ceremony held at Queen City Lodge #761.

Old Hickory Camp Commander Br Jere Hodges, along with Chap 177

President Br Dean Grimes present-ed a “Toast to the Flag” ceremony during the QC761 Breakfast on 1 April.

Br Robert Gooch presented the Na-tional Sojourners ROTC award to Kenwood High School Cadet McKenzie Rosario at their JROTC Awards Ceremony held on March 18th. Over the next two months, the Chapter #177 Sojourners will be presenting ROTC awards and med-als to students at all local high schools, three KY high schools and the “Governor’s Guard” Army ROTC detachment at APSU.

From The Secretary -

The year is 1/4 over and I still have a group of 2017 Membership Cards that are begging me to be sent out. If there is an empty spot in your wal-let where that card should be, please take care of that in the earli-est possible time frame. The PayPal method of purchasing tickets for BBQ, Fish Fry or Master Mason Din-ner tickets works great for dues as well.

If you send a check, please send it to the Secretary’s address at the bottom of this page.

The Mighty Flame -

It was a small group- the one that gathered at the Goose and Gridiron Tavern in London in the year 1717- the representatives of four London Lodges of Speculative Freemasonry who conceived the idea that a mutual-ly formed administrative body for the lodges in London might serve as a gov-erning body and clearing house for rules and laws.

In Masonic literature writers have been criticized for extravagant state-ments; for over-enthusiasm in pre-senting Masonic history. But with it all, is there a literature richer in the

realm of moral courage, richer in the greatness of man's effort to become God-like; or richer in the story of man's upward climb through the dark-ness of doubt and ignorance into the light of understanding and tolerance?

Why not indulge in imagination?

There must have been greatness in that small assembly of 1717. There were men who surely sensed the dan-ger of the day, and had the moral courage to face the situation. They must have been men of vision who could look beyond the present and all its difficulties into a tomorrow in which man would regain his dignity. They must have been men of determi-nation and vision, who insisted the religion should be a force to unite men, not separate them.

Why not let the imagination turn to 1717?

The Temple is the history of the Builder

This idea led to the formation of Grand Lodges and has stood the test of time through civil and religious strife, world wars, and social enlightenment for 300 years.
