Students Signing Out
During the Day
Parents and Carers are encouraged to
follow school procedure when students
need to sign out of school during school
hours.
Students are only permitted to leave
school before the end of the school day if
they have a note signed by their parent or
carer.
This note must be presented at the Student
Services counter before school begins at
the start of the day or during the first break.
Students who need to leave early on
Wednesday must see Miss Evenden (Sports
Organiser) before school starts for
authorisation before presenting to the front
office.
Parent / carers are also reminded that if
they are picking up their child during
school hours they are not permitted to take
any student other than their own unless the
school has written permission from the
other parent.
Please do not call your child on their
mobile phone during class time and ask
them to meet you at the front office.
Correct procedure is to call the office and
the office staff will arrange for your child to

Academic, sporting and cultural achievements are the focus of our school. Our aim is success for every student. Our newsletters and bulletin are packed with acknowledgements of students who are taking the opportunities in our school. As we are approaching the end of the school year we have many activities occurring. Reports are in the process of being written and these will be distributed towards the end of the term. Academic Awards Assemblies will also be held during Week 10. Years 7, 9 and 11 will have their assembly on Monday, 17th December and Years 8 and 10 will be the following day, Tuesday 18th December. Both assemblies will be held at 10:15am in The Len Walsh Hall. Year 12 Congratulations to Year 12 students who have completed their final HSC examinations. They have applied themselves with diligence and composure. The Formal was a great success and all students presented themselves beautifully. They are a credit to themselves, their families and Casino High School. CONGRATULATIONS! BIG Day Out Activities The last day of this term will comprise of alternate activities for students at Casino High School. Notes for each of these activities have been distributed to students and need to be returned with the required payment to the Student Services Counter in the Front Office by today, Friday 7th December. ‘Safe on Social’ - Why you need to keep your social media apps updated News in September 2017, reported that the account of a celebrity Instagram user – Selena Gomez had been hacked. This was not however a single targeted hack against a specific celebrity, but one that was much wider ranging. Official numbers will not be confirmed by Instagram but the hackers have claimed to possess the data of over 6 million Instagram account holders.
The hackers set up a site where people could pay a sum to search for compromised accounts. Available for purchase were the private contact details used to open Instagram accounts and this included those of the White House, and Rihanna plus almost all the members of the most popular Instagram profiles (the top 50).
The catch is, the version of the app the hackers were able to work around was a 2016 version. Updates released since will protect you from the problem. No update; your personal details are not secure. Always keep your apps up to date. Include gaming apps and firmware upgrades on gaming consoles in this. The necessary security changes go hand in hand with some of the upgrades you might not want, or think you need.
Quicksmart Certificate Presentation Ceremony
The Quicksmart Certificate Presentation Ceremony will be held in The Len Walsh Hall on Tuesday, 11th December
(Week 9 of term). Students will go to the hall at the beginning of Period 2 and parents and carers are invited to
arrive at 10.25am for the short presentation ceremony. Morning tea will follow. Students who have been in
Quicksmart this year as well as students who are currently in the Literacy and Numeracy Improvement Programs
are invited to attend.
Your student has been given an invitation letter to be completed by you and returned to the school to assist with
catering purposes. Please return this invitation as soon as possible.
We hope that many parents, carers and community members may be able to attend this happy occasion.
Thank you
Mrs Chris Bell

Show Team Students off to Royal Easter Show
Congratulations to Phoebe McMillan, Taj Currie-Lyons and
Riley Randall who have all been rewarded for their hard
work qualifying to compete at the Royal Easter Show in
Sydney next year.
Phoebe has a great bond with the animals and has been
parading cattle for four years with the school. She has
aspirations to become a livestock veterinarian and is
certainly on track, having recently obtained a school
based traineeship with Richmond Valley Council’s Northern
Rivers Livestock Exchange.
Taj, an enthusiastic member of the Show Team took out
second place at the Bangalow Show this year. Taj has
always been interested in the cattle industry and qualifying
for the Royal Easter Show is another step in the progression
towards his dream.
Riley, our dedicated Year 12 student, has been a member
of the show team since Year 7. Riley has already made
inroads towards building his career in the cattle industry
introducing his own Charolais Cattle Stud earlier this year.
We wish the students the best of luck at the Royal Easter
Show and look forward to hearing about their experiences.
