A hero automatically levels down at the end of an adventure if
- She was level 2 or higher
- and during the adventure she did spend a healing surge or didn't make it out of the dungeon (through an exit tile) or
was hit by a wraith or by a vampire (misses don't count)
A hero can only lose one level per adventure (if the group didn't achieve the adventure goal, it will have to redo the
same adventure but the hero cannot lose a level a second time on that same adventure)

The group keeps its stock of unused xp at the end of an adventure (record the number, don't keep the monster or
villain cards)
- A defeated villain value is its level in xp
- These xp are kept only for purpose of leveling up or buying items or healing surges (see below)
- xp not spent to level up or buy items are lost and are not carried over to the next adventure

A hero can only level up at the end of an adventure
At the end of an adventure, a hero levels up if :
- She was level 9 or lower
- and she spends the required xp (her previous level +2)
- and she didn't spend a healing surge during the adventure
- and the group did achieve the adventure goal
- and she did leave the dungeon with at least 1 HP
- and she rolled a natural 20 as her first roll of dice during one of her Hero Phase or she received a special card during
the adventure enabling her to level up
If more than one hero can level up at the end of an adventure, they level up starting with the hero(es) with the lowest
level(s)
When a hero levels up, if she is entitled to get a 3rd power of a given type (Utility, At-Will or Daily) she can select it
either within her own set of power or within the unused non racial powers of a specific other hero (see table)
When she is entitled to get a 4th or subsequent power of a given type she can select it either within her own set of
unused power or within the unused non racial powers of one of two specific other heroes (see table)
A hero can only level up once per adventure (if the group wants to redo the same adventure, the hero won't be able to
win a level a second time on that same adventure)
A hero can level down and then level back up as a result of a single adventure

Racial powers are the only powers than can be picked simultaneously by multiple characters, with the following rules
- Thorgrim and Vistra are the only ones that can pick Dwarven Resilience (and both must take it at some point, so
make a copy of the card if both heroes are in your group)
- Arjhan and Heskan are the only ones that can pick Dragon's Breath or Hurled Breath (and both must take them at
some point, so make a copy of each card if both heroes are in your group)
- Immeril is the only one that can Fey Step (and she must take it at some point)

Heroes keep their treasures (gp, items, boons) between adventures
- They can freely redistribute items and gp between them
- They can sell items for half their cash value (to get cash to buy other items or healing surges)
- They can buy items
Anytime the group wants to buy an item, the group must check (once after each adventure) whether that particular
item is available for sale
- Roll a d20, add the level of the lowest level's hero in the party, and multiply by 100
- If the result is equal or above the item's price, the item is available for sale
- xp can be used to pay for items with 1xp = 100 gp

When a hero founds a treasure (gp, item...) during an adventure, she cannot give it to another hero unless she spends a
move action adjacent to that hero
When a hero founds or receives a piece of armor (see list below) during an adventure, she cannot use it until she has
don it by spending a move action
A Hero cannot use more than one item at a time
A Hero must discard the item he uses if he rolls a natural 1 using it or if a monster or villain rolls a natural 20 while
attacking the Hero

A hero cannot bring in an adventure more than the following items : 2 Amulets, 1 Armor, 1 Boots, 1 Hands’ Item, 1
Melee Weapon, 1 Range Weapon, 2 Gold or jewelry bags and 3 Other items,
- If at some point during the adventure, a hero carries 1 to 3 items more than the above, her speed is reduced by one
- If at some point during the adventure, a hero carries 4 items more than the above, she gets the Slowed condition
A hero cannot keep equipment that she doesn’t bring in adventure
Before going on a new adventure, the group can buy healing surges at the price of average party level (after leveling
up and down) each*100gp
- xp can be used to pay for healing surges with 1xp = 100 gp
- the group cannot altogether possess more than one Healing Surge per Hero

The difficulty of an adventure is modified depending on the average party level (after leveling down and up from
previous adventure)
- The average party level is calculated rounding below (i. e. a party of 4 heroes of levels 4,4,4 and 3 is a level 4 party,
whether a party of 4 heroes of levels 4,4,3 and 3 is a level 3 party)
- At level 1, each hero starts its career with one healing surge and no treasure
