Introduction
ThankyouforyourinterestinCastlefieldGallery.
Establishedbyartistsin1984,CastlefieldGallerywasManchester’sfirstpubliccontemporaryvisualartgallerytohaveopenedinthecity,andoverthelastthreedecadeshasbeenasignificantcatalystfortheregion’sculturalgrowth.
CastlefieldGalleryisaNationalPortfolioOrganisationofArtsCouncilEnglandandaManchesterCityCouncil Cultural Partner for 2018/19 – 2021/22. Castlefield Gallery is a registered charity and acompanylimitedbyguarantee.Thetrusteesofthecharityarealsoboardmembersofthecompany.

Aswelookforwardtoour40-yearanniversaryin2024weareseekingtoappointastrategicthinker,anddynamic,committedleaderfortheroleofChairofCastlefieldGallery.AfterasuccessfultenurethecurrentChair,MarlaCunningham,isduetostepdownin2018.
Thesuccessfulcandidatewillworkwithustoshapeandleadournextchapter.YouwillchairtheBoardofTrusteesandworkwiththeDirector,tofurthergrowourwork,andraiseourprofilenationallyandinternationally.Youwillhaveadeepinterestincontemporaryartandbefamiliarwithdecisionmakinginbothpublicandprivatesectors.Youwillbeanestablishedleaderwithaproventrackrecord,andwellpositionedtoensureexcellentgovernanceandBoardperformance.
This role is voluntary and reasonable expenses are reimbursed. The Board currently meets inManchester a minimum of four times annually, with additional occasional meetings andsubcommitteegroupmeetings.

CastlefieldGallerydeliversaprogrammeofexhibitions,projectsandeventsfromourmaingalleryincentralManchester,whilstalsocommissioning,curatingandproducingoff-siteandpublicart,nationalandinternationalartistresidencies,andexchangeprogrammes.Weexportartandculturedevelopedand produced in the region through exchange, so as to enablemeaningful relationships betweenartistsnationallyandinternationallytoflourishoverextendedperiodsoftime.
Partnershipisattheheartofeverythingwedo.Lastyearalone,ourworkhasdeliveredexchangesandresidenciesforartistsbetweentheGreaterManchesterregionandNorthWestofEngland,with

CastlefieldGalleryAssociatesisa200+strongartist,curatorandwritermembershipgroupwhoaccessartistic,skillsandcareerdevelopmentsupportviaourwork,aswellasNewArtSpaces-pop-upartandproductionspaceslocatedacrossGreaterManchester.Ourdevelopmentprogrammeextendstoproviding bespoke artist mentoring, coaching and CPD, working with those at all career stages,including new graduates. We subsidise this activity to keep costs for artists and our membersaffordable.
Weareaprovenleaderandenablerinthedevelopmentofvisualartists,withmanyCastlefieldGallery‘alumni’goingontoexperiencenationalandinternationalacclaim,includingTurnerPrizewinnersandnominations,exhibitorsatmajorfestivals,biennials,triennialsandinternationalpresentations.
UntiltheendofAugust2019CastlefieldGalleryisarecipientofArtsCouncilEngland’sCatalyst:Evolve,aninitiativethatencouragesthegrowthofprivategivingandorganisationalresilience.Forthistime-limited period Arts Council England will match each new donation we secure pound-for-pound,doublingtheimpactofeachpledgemadetosupportourwork.
TheCastlefieldGalleryBusinessPlanissetfortheperiod2018/19–2021/22,pavingthewayforourvisiontowards2024whenwewillcelebrateour40thyear.TheBusinessPlanisreviewedandrenewedannually.
