    Common Admission TestPopularly known as CAT, is one of the toughest management entrance examinations inIndia, conducted by the elite Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to 2-year full time Post GraduatePrograms in Management. Apart from IIMs, there are other premier B-Schools in the country accepting CAT scores

    for admission to their respective management programs

    CAT, is to become a computer based test from 2009 onwords. There are certain changes in type of questions andnumber. Candidates will have attempting Reading Passesges, Data Interpretation and Analytical Reasoningquestions on computer screen and then attempting to solve them. CAT - Compute based test had greater flexibilitywill be afforted that score may be valid for more than a year.

    This year CAT 2011 will be conducted by IIM Calcutta.

    CAT 2011 Exam Dates / Notification:-

    CAT Test Dates:- Saturday, 22 October 2011 - Friday, 18 November 2011

    CAT Result :- Wednesday 11 January 2012

    CAT 2011 Eligibility:-

    The candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree, withat least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of thecandidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA)categories],awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or othereducational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government ofIndia.

    The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelors degree would be calculated based on thepractice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the

    candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of markswould be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor'sdegree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, theequivalence would be established by dividing the candidates CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplyingthe result with 100.

    Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelors degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who havecompleted degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages ofthe selection process, the details of which are provided at Selection Process of IIMs.

    CAT 2011 Paper Pattern:-

    There will be some changes in the pattern of the CAT paper from 2011. CAT 2011 will have only two sections insteadof the erstwhile three sections. The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second onVerbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. There will be total 60 questions in the paper, 30 in each section. The duration ofCAT 2011 will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which willhave an on-screen countdown timer. Within the 70 min provided for the section, candidates can review the answers.Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back.

    A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through thatcarefully before starting the main examination. The total duration will be two hours and thirty five minutes includingthe tutorial. A practice test to provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation andfunctionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks. Once again candidates are advised to gothough them carefully to familiarise themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation.
