StopTech was founded in March of 1999 with a singular mission:Become the leading manufacturer and supplier of high-perform-ance brake components and systems. United by their passion forracing and high-performance vehicles, the founding staff soughtto challenge the status quo in known brake technology, and setnew paradigms for brake upgrades.

In service of this mission, and as a direct result of the company’songoing brake research, StopTech has received three patents inbrake technology and has one patent pending.

StopTech invented Balanced Brake Upgrades™ for stock andproduction racecars running a single master cylinder. Prior to theinception of StopTech, brake upgrade manufacturers used whatthey had in their parts bin to build brake upgrades. These earlybrake upgrades were typically too front-biased, causing them to perform worse than the stock brake systems in stoppingdistance tests. StopTech was the first aftermarket brake upgrade company to design and manufacture balanced front brakeupgrades to improve all aspects of performance, while maintaining compatibility with the Original Equipment (OE) rearbrakes. StopTech prides itself in maintaining compatibility with all onboard vehicle dynamic systems, such as ABS, stabilitycontrol, traction control, and dynamic rear proportioning systems. The same principles of balance and compatibility areapplied to the company's four-wheel brake upgrade kits. StopTech achieves the technically ideal balance by engineeringbrake systems with proper front-to-rear brake bias on a per-platform basis.

StopTech engineers and manufactures high-performance brake rotors, calipers, DOT-compliant stainless steel lines, andbrake upgrade systems for the racing and performance street markets. The company also distributes direct replacementaftermarket rotors, brake pads, and brake fluid.

WHY BALANCE MATTERS

In simple terms, optimum brake bias (balance) isobtained when a vehicle's front-to-rear brake forcebias exactly matches the vehicle's dynamic front-to-rear weight distribution under a given loading anddecelerating condition. As shown in the figure to theright, distributing brake force so that all four tires aresimultaneously generating deceleration proportional tothe four individual corner weights will maximize brakeefficiency. Consequently, the stopping distance will beminimized.

It is purely the combination of these two factors -brake force and corner weight - that determines avehicle's optimum brake bias. Therefore, when select-ing a big brake upgrade, one should be aware thatchanging the force output of the front brake compo-nents, without changing the force output of the rearbrake components, can cause an undesirable shift inbias and a resultant increase in stopping distance.

The most dramatic brake bias problems are usually brought about by big brake "upgrades" which are not properlymatched to the intended vehicle. How can this occur? Any time that a larger front rotor is installed, there is a simultane-ous need to decrease the effective clamping force of the caliper. Installing smaller pistons is the ideal method to offset theincreased torque created by larger rotor effective radius (see the chart on next page). Unfortunately, too many of these"upgrades" do not take this factor into account, and those applications end up with both bigger rotors and larger pistonswhich serve to drastically shift the brake bias forward. As a result, stopping distances can increase dramatically.

Brake bias is vital to performance, and is most evident on the racetrack where outbraking your opponent by two feet perlap, during a 20-lap sprint race can result in a three-to-four car length advantage at the finish. On the racetrack,decreased braking distance is the same as free horsepower.

AEROROTOR® The patented AeroRotor® features curved vanes with innovations on leading and trailing edges. The uniquelydesigned vanes inside the disc optimize airflow through the rotor. This improved directional design minimizes turbu-lence, and flows more air than any rotor tested. The result is up to 80% better airflow over original equipment rotorsand 10-30% better airflow than currently available directional vaned racing rotors.

Street drivers also need to take heed of bias, as the effectsof improper bias not only result in sub-optimal stopping dis-tances, but can also include sub-optimal brake pad life asa result of too much front bias, and/or premature ABS acti-vations. For example, if a car is too heavily front-biased inits typical operating deceleration range, it will wear frontbrake pads more quickly, due to the fact that the rearbrakes are not contributing as much as they could be.

Outer rotor faces run hotter. To solve the problem, the patent pendingAeroHat™ has directional stand-offs between the rotor and mounting hat,which increase airflow to the outside faces of the rotor by 50-100 percent.Increased airflow reduces the temperature differential between the insideand outside faces of the rotor, resulting in less rotor distortion, more eveninner-to-outer pad wear rates, and better performance compared to otherfully floating designs. AeroHatTM improves entire brake system airflow by upto 4 percent.

This chart shows that the StopTech’s AeroRotor™ hasthe highest induced airflow of any rotor tested. Leadingaftermarket and original equipment rotors were tested for air-flow from 30 to 150mph. The AeroRotor® dramatically outper-formed all other rotors, with improvements from an impressive11 percent to a staggering 80 percent increase in airflow, cor-rected to 20°C and sea level. This translates into greaterresistance to brake fade, faster recovery from temperaturespikes generated by aggressive braking maneuvers, reducedpad wear, and significantly increased rotor life.

Using finite element analysis (FEA) modeling software, StopTech hasdesigned a bolt-in bridge which is strong enough to stop distortion with-out sacrificing cooling through the top of the caliper. The squeeze-forgedStopTech ST-40 caliper has the least flex of any tested aftermarket orOE caliper. The air channel in the bridge is specifically designed to pro-mote air flow through the retainer, resulting in enhanced cooling.

The chart below shows the results of testing 25 leading caliper modelsfrom major caliper manufacturers. Each caliper was subjected to thesame force and deflection measured with a digital caliper. StopTech wasthe stiffest caliper of the major brands tested.

ROTORSSlottedAll StopTech Balanced Brake Upgrades are shipped with slotted AeroRotors®, however,

drilled rotors can be substituted for an additional $50 per rotor. Slotting assists in removingthe debris generated between the pad and rotor during braking as well as increasing the"bite" characteristics of the pad/rotor interface. A drilled rotor provides the same benefitsand works better in the wet, but is more susceptible to cracking under severe usage, as wellas causing greater pad wear. Many customers prefer the look of a drilled rotor, and as longas they will only be used for street and occasional light track use, they will work fine. Formore severe applications, where elevated rotor temperatures are expected on a regularbasis, StopTech strongly recommends slotted AeroRotors®.

StopTech now offers an anti-corrosion gold zinc coating for all AeroRotors. The coating ben-efits customers who live in cold climates, where snow and road salt are commonly encoun-tered, and customers who would prefer to not have visible surface rust on the vanes andouter circumference of their rotors. Zinc coating does not have a negative environmentalimpact compared to competitive coatings. Gold zinc coating adds $35 per rotor.

CALIPERS

Standard caliper colors are red or black paint. Silver is no extra charge, but requires a 15 business-day lead time. Blue or yellowcalipers add $200 per pair, require a 15% non-refundable deposit, and require a 15 business-day lead time.

PADS

BIG BRAKE KITS - STANDARD COMPONENTS

After extensive testing of most of the high-performance street pad compounds currently on the market, StopTech chose the AxxisUltimate from Australian manufacturer, Bendix Mintex, as the standard pad included with its big brake kits. Testing showed this to bethe best pad for the price, for aggressive street and autocross use. When aggressively driven over and over at the company’s testfacilities, and with dynamometer test results, StopTech found that the pad works cold with minimal loss of coefficient of frictionthroughout its entire operating temperature range. There is no fade until 850°F and the maximum operating temperature (MOT) is932°F. In contrast, a stock pad typically has an MOT of 700°F. The Axxis Ultimate pad combines cold stopping performance with high-tem-perature fade resistance and features anti-squeal shims and wear sensors, where applicable. Race pads are optional.StopTech performs extensive testing of all popular pad compounds and is a stocking distributor of several popular pad companies. WHEEL FITMENTWhether a kit fits a stock wheel is dependent on the specific application. StopTech’s ST-series calipers usually require the following:328mm rotor (12.9 inches) and 332mm rotor (13.1 inches) - Minimum 17” wheel355mm rotor (14 inches) - Minimum 18” wheel380mm rotor (15 inches) - Minimum 19” wheelMore important than the diameter is the clearance between the face of the caliper and the inside ofthe wheel spokes. On Brembo or Porsche calipers, some components may or may not be replaced, depending on the exact caliper model. Pad hardware suchas spring clips or pad retaining pins, are not included. We can service Brembo F40, F50, Viper, Lotus and Cobra R models as well as late-model four-piston Porsche calipers with dust boots. Hardware that was painted on the original caliper, such as bolts and cross-over tubes,will not be painted. They will be our standard Dacromet coating for bolts, and yellow zinc for bleed screws.

To order, call StopTech to get an RMA number to track your parts. Calipers must be clean and dry to the touch. Seal the brake line inlet port,and package to prevent damage during shipment. Leaking calipers may cause the delivery service to quarantine your calipers as hazardouswaste. Calipers should arrive reasonably clean, or they may be subject to a discretionary cleaning charge at our discretion (presume $50minimum per caliper). Seven to ten working days is typical turnaround. StopTech can expedite rebuild to five working days for an additionalcharge of $25 per caliper. Customer pays shipping both ways.

ST-60 - SIX PISTON FRONT CALIPER

BENEFITS:StopTech Stage 1 kits are the first step toward the next level of braking per-formance. Front and rear stainless steel brake lines improve pedal feel andreduce the amount of time between applied pedal pressure and actual decel-eration by reducing the expansion allowed by stock rubber flex lines. High-performance front and rear street pads provide you with higher resistance tofade, higher maximum operating temperature, and better initial bite, to allowconsistent deep braking into corners. Three bottles of Motul RBF600 brakefluid increase both wet and dry boiling points, and virtually prevent boilingeven under the most severe operating conditions. Excellent for autocross.Not for track use.

STAGE 2 KIT INCLUDES:Everything in Stage 1 kit, plus stock-sized SportStop® slotted or drilled rotorsfor the front and rear. FITS STOCK CALIPERS.

BENEFITS:All the benefits of Stage 1, plus Stage 2 kits add direct replacement drilled orslotted rotors at all four corners. For customers interested in attaining anaesthetic edge, StopTech offers cross-drilled rotors that look phenomenalbehind that new set of custom wheels. They also prevent pad glazing andimprove wet and dry braking performance. Alternatively, for the more per-formance-minded enthusiast StopTech recommends slotted rotors that stillretain an eye-catching look and provide all the performance gains of a drilledrotor, but are more durable under repeated, severe usage. Regardless ofdrilling or slotting, SportStop® rotors have a durable black coating on thenon-swept areas of the rotor to prevent unsightly corrosion and quality isassured as the rotors are manufactured to meet or exceed all OE specifica-tions. Excellent for autocross. Not for track use.

STAGE 1 & 2 KITS

StopTech stainless steel brake lines improve pedal feel and reduce theamount of time between applied pedal pressure and actual deceleration byreducing the expansion that is allowed by stock rubber flex lines. This pro-vides a quicker pedal response and allows the driver to maintain consistentbrake pressure and precision brake modulation.

StopTech brake lines consist of a Teflon® inner line that is covered with alayer of stainless steel woven braid. The Teflon tube is very resistant toexpansion under pressure and will not degrade from exposure to brake fluid.The stainless steel braid provides support for the Teflon, and the weave isextremely durable against incidental impact and abrasion. StopTech brakelines feature a clear abrasion-resistant cover for maximum protection againstchaffing.

Every StopTech Stainless Steel Brake Line is DOT compliant and testedto a pressure of 4,500PSI.

Axxis Ultimate® This Kevlar- and ceramic-strengthened compound offers far and away the best price-to-performance ratio currently available in a high-performance street pad. Properbedding procedure is critical to the performance of this pad, but once complete, youcan expect truly world-class bite, MOT, minimal rotor and pad wear, and very lownoise levels. Dust production is medium-to-high. On front-engine platforms, theUltimate is excellent for aggressive street and autocross use in the front calipers. Italso works very well in the rear, for applications ranging from aggressive street tomoderate track use. Ultimate is NOT recommended for use on road courses in frontcalipers as this can cause uneven pad deposition on rotors as well as resultant vibra-tion. Street and autocross use only. OK for club-level track use in rear calipers.

The Deluxe Plus compound is an outstanding choice for those looking to improveperformance over OE pads, but who insist on very low levels of dust and virtually nonoise. This pad has a very linear torque output throughout its operating range, isvery easy on rotors, and exhibits great pad life. Very low dust production, low noiseand low rotor wear. Street use only. NOT for track use. The Metal Master is a semi-metallic pad that exhibits perhaps the most balancedoperating characteristics of all three Axxis pads. The StopTech Carbon Kevlar Street Performance compound is very similar to theAxxis Ultimate in terms of its operating characteristics; great bite, great MOT, lowrotor wear, low noise, and medium-to-high dust production. StopTech recommendsthis pad for the same usage that we would recommend Axxis Ultimate. The only timeit is recommended for use on the track is on the rear of a front-engine car for moder-ate-duty open track sessions.

The Hawk HPS is a high-performance street pad with light-to-medium dust produc-tion, low noise, low rotor wear, and a similar MOT to Metal Master. NOT recommend-ed for use on lapping days or for open track use.

Hawk HP+ is a pad with moderate dust production, moderate rotor wear, high initialbite, high average torque and a similar MOT to Hawk HPS. Great autocross pad.

Pagid RS 4-2-1 (Sport Blue) is a high-performance street compound with good fadecharacteristics and high cold friction. The most comfortable medium-friction sportcompound, rotor friendly, and OE on various Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Bugatti andCorvette (Callaway) models. Suitable for street and light track use.

XPS is a new compound from Brake Horsepower. XPS is unique, in that it is the onlyfriction compound currently available that can truly be used for daily driving, as wellas for light- to medium-duty track use. It has excellent friction characteristics, fromcold all the way to its maximum operating temperature of around 1,130° Fahrenheit(200° higher than Axxis Ultimate). All XPS pads come with a heat-resistant compos-ite shim designed to reduce noise as much as possible. Although this pad can causeproduce minor noise under some conditions, it is very quiet for a pad with such ahigh average level of friction, and such a broad operating temperature range. Forcars that are running street tires at the track, XPS is an ideal choice for aggressivedrivers who would rather not switch to race pads for track use.

Hawk Performance introduces a ceramic composite formulation specifically devel-oped to meet the ultra-low dust and low noise attributes of OE ceramic brake padswhile maintaining high friction levels.

Ferodo DS3000 is a full race pad that offers a very high average (0.62) coefficient offriction, flat torque curve, and very good modulation characteristics. DS3000 is arace-only compound, and is NOT to be used on street applications.

The Hawk Blue 9012 is a race pad with the temperature range of a club race pad,very high rotor wear at cooler temperatures, and low-to-moderate rotor wear whenwarm. It provides a stable torque curve, good bite, and an MOT of 1,050°F. This padworks well for track use on the front of front-engine cars for less-experienced drivers,but advanced drivers can overheat this pad on medium-to-high mass vehicles.

Pagid RS 4-4 (Orange) is a club race pad that has a level of friction, fade resistance,and maximum operating temperature that is significantly greater than a high-perform-ance street pad, but significantly below a true race pad. It is rotor-friendly with a pre-dictable, flat torque curve. Orange has an MOT of around 1,050°F. StopTech cannotrecommend it for street use, as it can take a couple stops to come up to operatingtemperature. Pagid Orange is a very good rear compound for front-engine TouringCar race applications, in combination with Pagid RS 14 front pads. It is commonlyused on the front and rear of Porsche track cars, and is a popular pad for lappingdays on the front of front-engine cars that are still running street tires.Pagid RS 14 (Black) is a full race pad with a medium-to-high friction level. It is aceramic-type compound with very good modulation, high fade resistance, low heatconductivity, and a good wear rate up to a temperature 1,200°F. Applications includeNASCAR, CART, F3, Touring cars, GT cars, WSC, Trans Am and Rally.

Hawk HT-10 is a full race pad that has good modulation and release characteristics,which make it a great race pad for the "weekend warrior." You can expect moderaterotor wear, moderate dust production, a stable torque curve, above-average bite, andan MOT of 1,600°F. StopTech recommends this pad for casual track use in the frontof front-engine cars, as well as for the rear of club and professional race cars.

StopTech recommends thispad for the front of front-engine race cars, in conjunction with Hawk HT-10 pads onthe rear. Used on top SPEED World Challenge Touring cars.

StopTech’s Carbon Kevlar Club Race pad has a medium torque output, and is verystable throughout its operating range, which makes it an easy pad to drive. With anMOT of 1,200°F, and minimal required bed-in, this carbon Kevlar pad is low-mainte-nance and track-capable for lapping days. It can also be used in the front of lowmass, front engine cars for competitive track use, and in the rear of high-mass, front-engine professional race cars.

StopTech Club Race

PFC 01 has perhaps the highest average torque of any pad available for the ST-40.It has a rising torque curve over its operating temperature range, and as a result, canbe somewhat challenging to modulate for less-experienced drivers. PFC 01 exhibitsexcellent bite, low rotor wear, average pad wear, and an MOT of 2,000°F. It is thepad of choice for top SPEED World Challenge teams.

PFC 97 is a full race pad with medium-to-high average torque output, a very flattorque output over its operating temperature range, and an MOT of 2,000°F. Itexhibits exceptionally low rotor and pad wear, and excellent modulation and releasecharacteristics. PFC 97 has proven very popular on the front of front-engine cars thatare driven at lapping and open track events, as well as on the rear of professional-level race cars. Used on the rear of top SPEED World Challenge Touring cars.

Ferodo DS2500 is a club race pad that can be used on the street and for light trackuse. This compound produces some noise on the street, but retains good cold fric-tion, and has an MOT of around 1,000 degrees F. It also has 35% less compressibili-ty than competitive products, giving it very good pedal feel and modulation character-istics. DS2500 has an average friction level of approximately (0.50) which remainsconstant at any speed, and at any temperature up to 1,000° F.
