Features

1. Smallest low voltage capsule lamps.

2. Distortion-free quartz bulb and precisely defined filament position.

Benefits

1. Compact, efficient optical systems.

2. Optimal beam performance.

Dimming of low voltage halogen lamps

Low voltage halogen lamps should not be dimmed by more than 10% of their

rated voltage since this will result in a reduction in life.

Standard tungsten filament lamps (with no halogen filling), can be dimmed to zero

volts, resulting in virtually endless life. However if low voltage tungsten halogen

lamps are dimmed by more than 10%, the lamp will be operating at too low a

temperature and the free halogens in the gas fill, will attack the cooler parts of the

tungsten filament i.e. where the tungsten wire enters the quartz or glass envelope.

The wire at that point will then be eroded and eventually will fail.

So if dimmed by 10% or more, low voltage tungsten halogen lamps will not have

an extended life but are unlikely even to reach their rated life.

Note

The square filament lamp 5761 is especially designed for microscopes with

computer read-out.

Features

Filament lamps

1. Small bulb shape

2. Excellent distortion-free quartz bulb

Optical lamps

1. Dichroic coating on glass reflector radiates about 75% of the generated heat

backwards.

2. Precisely aligned halogen burner using an optical system.

3. High efficacy.

Benefits

Filament lamps

1. Specially suited for compact efficient systems

2. Optimal beam performance

Optical lamps

1. Keeps temperature within limits.

2. No realignment needed when lamp is replaced

3. Low energy consumption.

Dimming

Low voltage halogen lamps should not be dimmed by more than 10% of their

rated voltage since this will result in a reduction in life.

Standard tungsten filament lamps (with no halogen filling), can be dimmed to zero

volts, resulting in virtually endless life. However if low voltage tungsten halogen

lamps are dimmed by more than 10%, the lamp will be operating at a too low

temperature and the free halogens in the gas fill, will attack the cooler parts of the

tungsten filament i.e. where enters the quartz or glass envelope. The wire at that

point will then be eroded and eventually will fail.

So if dimmed by 10% or more, low voltage tungsten halogen lamps will not have

an extended life but are unlikely even to reach their rated life.

Features

1. Integral reflector

2. Dichroic coating on glass reflector

3. Precisely aligned halogen burner

Benefits

1. Efficient mirror condensor system

2. 75% of the heat is generated backwards keeping temperatures within safe

limits

3. No re-alignment necessary when lamp is replaced

However if low voltage tungsten halogen

lamps are dimmed by more than 10%, the lamp will be operating at a too low

temperature and the free halogens in the gas fill, will attack the cooler parts of the

tungsten filament i.e. where enters the quartz or glass envelope. The wire at that

point will then be eroded and eventually will fail.

So if dimmed by 10% or more, low voltage tungsten halogen lamps will not have

an extended life but are unlikely even to reach their rated life.

Features

35 and 50 W Microdischarge lamps with an arc length of 4.2 mm (DL types) and

3.8 mm (RP type) mounted on a P32d base. Characteristic life (Tc) is 5000 h

(DL35/745), 3000 h (DL50). For RP50/740 Tc is 5000h if switched on and off

once per 12h.

The lamps emits very little UV due to the use of a UV block outer bulb.

Ballast/starter

These lamps can only be used in conjunction with an electronic ballast and starter.

The lamps are able to withstand a ‘fast run-up mode’ as used in automotive

applications.

Lamps can be relit after switch-off (hot restrike).

The ballast must then have sufficient starting voltage and power.

Lamp voltage is approx. 85 V.

Safety

Lamps should be used in closed luminaires only.

Mechanical fastening of the lamp RP50/740

Due to the fact that glass products cannot be made with very small tolerances,

the lampholder must be able to clamp reflectors with maximum and minimum

dimensions. The best solution is to use springs that keep the reflector in position

against the seating plane and the positioning pins.

The lamp can be mounted in a standard 50 mm dichroic lampholder out of

which a part has been cut in order to let the top of the burner pass through (see

drawing; 15 mm minimum).

The seating plane must have a hole of d = 47 mm and it must have 2 positioning

pins.

Do not use the rim of the reflector to clamp the lamp. Problems will arise due to

tolerances in glass thickness.

Others - Low voltage halogen

Features

1. Small bulb shape and high luminous intensity

2. Distortion-free quartz bulb

3. XHP types have an optimised gas filling

Benefits

1. Suitable for compact and efficient projection systems

2. Optimal beam performance

3. XHP types: max. light output while staying within IEC limits

Dimming of low voltage halogen lamps

Low voltage halogen lamps should not be dimmed by more than 10% of their

rated voltage since this will result in a reduction in life.

Standard tungsten filament lamps (with no halogen filling), can be dimmed to

zero volts, resulting in virtually endless life. However if low voltage tungsten

halogen lamps are dimmed by more than 10%, the lamp will be operating at too

low a temperature and the free halogens in the gas fill, will attack the cooler parts

of the tungsten filament i.e. where the tungsten wire enters the quartz or glass

envelope. The wire at that point will then be eroded and eventually will fail.

So if dimmed by 10% or more, low voltage tungsten halogen lamps will not have

an extended life but are unlikely even to reach their rated life.

Note:

The smallest (capsule) lamps are especially suitable for microprojection

applications:

Features

35 W Microdischarge lamps with an arc length of 3.8 mm mounted on a P32d

base, according IEC 61/1: 7004-111-1. They are made for radiation in the UV part

of the spectrum.

Ballast/starter

These lamps can only be used in conjunction with an electronic ballast and starter.

The lamp DUV 35 is not made for a ‘fast run-up mode’. Lamps can be relit right

after switch-off (hot restrike).

The ballast must then have sufficient starting voltage and power.

Lamp voltage is approx. 85 V.

UV depreciation DUV35

UV depreciation depends on ballast configuration.

Maximum temperatures DUV35

Lamp behaviour over life DUV35

Lamp life and UV output depend greatly on the type of ballast. If gently started

the output in UV will be 10% lower after 500 h life. In this mode some lamps

live up to 2000 h, then however with only 30% UV output. If a fast run-up ballast

(automotive) is used, the lamp will only be able to make 50 starts.

More precise information on lamp life can be obtained from ballast manufacturers.

Features

1. Small bulb shape and high luminous intensity

Benefits

1. Suitable for compact and efficient projection systems

2. Optimal beam performance

3. XHP types max.: light output while staying within IEC limits

Benefits

1. High lumen output

2. High beam intensity

3. Excellent color characteristics

In view of their high internal working pressure, these lamps must only be operated

in closed luminaires. They radiate a considerable amount of ultraviolet; the luminaire

lenses must block this, and no radiation must be spilled through ventilation slots.
