POST FORMING
Post Forming is the process of heating and bending laminates under controlled temperature and pressure at the curved edges.
The process gives neatly finished and aesthetically appealing products that are free from joints. The radius of forming varies
between 3 to 19mm depending on the grade and thickness of the laminate selected.
Modecor Postformable Laminates:
Postforming of Decorative Laminates:
• Stationary Method in which the work piece remains fixed
and the machine heats and turns around the laminate for
forming on a suitable substances.
• Continuous Method in which the work piece moves on a
conveyor in the heating and forming zones of the machine
and the laminate forms around the profile.
Conditions affecting Post Forming:
• Preconditioning: All the post forming material like surface
and backing laminates and the substrates should be kept in
a chamber with relative humidity of 50% and temperature
of 25°C for a period of 48 hours prior to forming to ensure
appropriate moisture balance between all components.
• Substrate: The laminate should be formed on a suitable
surface like MDF, chipboard or Plywood; the substrate should
provide smooth and clear finish when profiled with the
machine and even surface when formed with laminate on the
curved edge.
• Core Preparation: The forming edge of the substrate should
be smooth, evenly rounded and free from all particles giving
a clear surface for bonding. Keep blades as sharp as possible
and clean them regularly.

• Temperature Control: The laminate should be rapidly
heated to the forming range so as to avoid cracking or
blistering. The heating time of laminates is affected by the
color, thickness and surface texture. The heating
temperature should be verified correctly by temperature
measuring indicators.
• Backing Laminate: Thickness of the backing laminates
should be the same as the one on the top surface to impart
a proper balance and to prevent warpage of the board.
Surface laminates, backing laminates and
substrates should be a acclimatized before forming
25
Hours
B. Heating and Forming: Modecor laminates will post form
at sheet temperatures between 165-175°C. If the laminate
remains cooler than 165°C, the sheet will crack during post
forming. If the laminate reaches temperature above 175°C.
The sheet might blister.
Process Time: The total process time for the post forming
cycle including heating and bending is approx 25 seconds.
• The ready substrate should be placed on the fixation bar of
the machine and adjusted carefully so that the heating and
forming bar touches it closely and evenly.
• The forming temperature should be attained rapidly
(15 seconds) and the laminate should be immediately formed
so as to avoid initial curing.
• The pressure to be applied by the forming bar depends on
the thickness of the laminate and the substrate. An
approximate idea for a 0.6 mm thick CPL to be formed on
a 18mm thick substrate is 3 bars. Check for exact pressure
details from the machine specifications.
• The speed of forming can be increased at high
temperatures. The speed must be kept as fast as possible to
avoid curing of the laminate prior to forming.
• For best results and efficiency, refer to the instruction
manual of the postforming machinery.
Working with Modecor Laminates
• Modecor laminates must be bonded to a substrate of
reliable quality such as particle board, medium density
fiberboard or plywood.
• Bond with adhesive and follow the technique
recommended by the adhesive manufacturer. Recommended
adhesives are permanent types, such as urea and
Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc) and other contact types.
• Take care to ensure an appropriate moisture balance
between the laminate and the substrate prior to fabrication.
The face and backing laminates and the substrate should
be conditioned in the same environment for 48 hours
before fabrication.
• Recommended condition temperature is about 25°C.
Laminates should be conditioned at 50% humidity.
• Carbide-tipped saw and router blades should be used for
cutting. High – tool speed and low – feed speed are advisable
• Cutting blades should be kept very sharp. Use a hold-down
to prevent any vibration.
• To avoid stress cracking, do not use square-cut inside
corners. All inside corners should be routed smooth.
• Drill oversized holes for screws or bolts. Screws or bolts
should be slightly countersunk into the face side of a
laminate-clad substrate.
The Postforming process involves two basic operations:
A. Fixing of Laminates: Recommended permanent type
adhesives such as Urea, Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc) or any
contact type adhesive can be used.
Follow the procedures and techniques mentioned by the
adhesive manufacturer for the best results.
• The quantity of glue to be applied depends on the
substrate for forming. For e.g: MDF substrate consumes 60 to
70 gm/sqm while a particle board substrate could take 70 to
80 gm/sqm.
• Apply the same glue on both the surfaces viz, laminate and
substrate and let them dry.
• Both surfaces should be left to dry by placing in clean open
air, with a hot blower or by high temperature infrared lamps.
• One way of checking if the substrate is ready for forming
is that it should not stick to fingers. The glue should be tacky
on touching, not very wet and not very dry.

POSTFORMED ELEMENTS
Modecor Postformed tops are composed of MDF /
Particleboard of thickness ranging between 16-38mm. The
top surface is Post forming grade Modecor laminate with an
offering of over 100 colors, various textures and wide range
of thicknesses to choose from.
Modecor Post formed worktops are available in various
profiles and can be post formed on one side or two sides
as per the requirement. These are available in ready widths
starting from 450mm up to 750mm and lengths up to
2440mm or 3660mm.
Then, the exposed edges at the ends can be finished
with matching MODEedge, the melamine edge bands
from Modecor.
Post formed Profiles
The thickness and grade of the laminate affects the radius of
forming and post forming qualities.
As per EN 438 standards, the radius of forming should be
10 times the thickness of the laminate if the axis of bending
parallel to the fiber direction for HGP and VGP applications,
and 20 times if the axis of bending at right angles to the fiber
directions for HGP and VGP applications. This applies for all
Modecor laminates less than 1.5mm thickness. For laminates
more than 1.5mm thickness, the radius of forming can be
mutually agreed between the customer and supplier.

Glue free installation – get a perfect result quick & easy.
IMPORTANT!
For a good end result and validity of the warranty:
• Store your Parqe floor flat in unopened packages at normal
room temperature for at least 48 hours prior to installation.
• The Parqe floor is to be installed as a floating floor. Make
certain the correct distance from the walls is maintained
(5-8 mm gap).
• Do not install the floor in wet or damp rooms, such as
bathrooms or rooms with a floor drain.
• To help protect the floor, a doormat should be laid inside
all external doorways.
• Use felt pads on furniture legs to prevent scratching.
Preparations
The floor should not be glued or fixed to the subfloor or
walls in any way. With the climatic changes, the flooring will
expand and contract very slightly, therefore a minimum of
5-8 mm expansion space should be left to walls, thresholds,
pipes and other fixed objects. An expansion profile must be
used in door openings, angled rooms, returning corners in
corridors and if the flooring is longer that 12m or wider than
8m. The subfloor must be dry (max 60% RH, at 18°C), even
(3 mm/2m; 1.2 mm/0.25 m) and clean. If you have
under-floor heating, please speak to your retailer. Parqe
can be installed on vinyl, linoleum, wood and ceramic tiles.
Remove textile carpets and underlay before installing. On
concrete floors including those with vinyl tiles installed, first
place a 0.2 mm polyethylene film with an overlap of 200mm.
Check that the planks are without defects and undamaged
before installing.
Installation
Start the installation in the left-hand corner of the room with
the tongue facing the wall. Use spacers to secure the
correct expansion gap. The planks are assembled by putting
the tongue into the groove of the installed plank at an angle
of approximately 30 degrees by pushing the plank gently
down to lock the joint. Start with the short side joint and
place the long side as close to the installed plank as possible.
After the short side joint is assembled, gently lift up the long
side joint and press it into the joint before you angle it down.
Install the planks in order according to picture 8. The off-cut
from cutting the last plank in one row is used to begin with
in next row. Ensure that end-joints are more than 200mm
apart. Continue this way during the entire installation.

For normal cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner without the beater bar
and when necessary a damp mop with some mild detergent. Never
use any wet or steam cleaning equipment. Never sand, wax or polish
the flooring.
Stubborn stains may be removed with methylated spirits or similar
and cotton wool.
Parqe floors have such a hard, dense surface the dirt finds it
difficult to leave its mark, which is why vacuuming and an oc-
casional swab with a mild detergent and a damp mop
are sufficient to keep your new floor clean and fresh. It
is always a good idea to use doormats at doorways
opening to the outside to prevent sand and dirt to come
on to your Parqe floor.
Stains from coffee, tea, grease, fruit juices and most
items found in a home are easily removed with a damp cloth.
Stubborn stains from felt pens, nail polish and
crayons can be quickly removed with a little nail polish
remover, spirit or acetone.
Always use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent
cratches from protruding nails or grains of sand which may
have got imbedded between the floor and the furniture leg.
Lift heavy furniture while shifting, never drag it.
Parqe floors are very durable and meet the various demands
as required by the European Norm for laminate floors – EN
13329. Depending on the product you have finally installed
they also meet the class of use described in the literature
which accompanied your product and this warranty is
applicable for the period specified there.
Given below are the salient features of the warranty that
Modecor offers for residential use against wear and staining.
Please check against the actual product installed by you for
the correct duration of the validity of this Warranty.
“Modecor warranties this floor’s laminate surface will not
wear through for the specified period in years”.
This warranty is only valid if the flooring has been used
for indoor general domestic uses (other than in a bath
room, laundry, toilet or any other area subject to damp and
moisture) and if it is laid and used in accordance with the
instructions which accompanied the product.
Equally, this warranty does not apply if the floor’s laminate
surface is damaged as a result of:
To claim under this warranty you should submit your claim to
Modecor within 30 days of the damage occurring.
A claim under this warranty may only be made by the
original purchaser of the floor.
If your claim is accepted for compensation, Modecor is free
to choose whether to repair the floor, at no cost to you,
or supply new flooring material, as compensation for the
damaged flooring material. Modecor reserves the right to
decide whether the damage is covered by the warranty. If the
original pattern is no longer available, Modecor will replace it
with another pattern of equivalent value.
The warranty does not mean that Modecor has any liability
to you for any other fault or damage, other than the types
explicitly mentioned by us in this warranty, in particular any
consequential loss; however it does not affect your statutory
rights as a consumer. For this warranty on your new floor to
be valid, it must have been laid in accordance with the laying
instructions, which accompanied the floor. If an accident
does happen, and you scratch the floor or end up with severe
mark, which is not covered by this warranty, you can always
replace an Individual floor plank with a new one. A specialist
should however, carry out this job.
Modecor reserves the right to inspect the floor and to take
samples for technical examination. Other conditions may apply.
1. Incorrect usage
2. Incorrect maintenance
3. Falling objects or gouging, and also
4. If the damaged surface is less than 2 cm2
Note: Never wax, sand or lacquer your parqe laminate floor.
Nor should you use any harsh abrasives, wire wool or similar
cleaning agents on it – you don’t need them to get your floor
clean. Cleaning – agents such as soap should also not be
used, as soap leaves an oily film on the floor, this film hover
does not damage the floor and can be wiped off
with a damp cloth.
