activities are to help support you and your child while you are learning

Activity 1:
Repeating Patterns
Have a go at completing the
repeated patterns in the Powerpoint
resource, ‘Curly Caterpillar Repeated
Patterns’. Can you work out which
colour comes next?
Can you create some repeated
patterns of your own? Make them
look like caterpillars by drawing
circles and colouring them in to
create a pattern.
Activity 2
Minibeast Mini-book
Can you make your own minibeast
book? Draw a picture of a different
minibeast on each page. When you
have finished your book share it with
an adult.
Find out how to make an 8-page
mini-book from one piece of A4 paper
by watching this video ….

which bugs come to visit!
P.E.
Tuesday 16th June
Activity 1:
Worm Hotel
Follow the instructions to make your
own worm hotel (see resources)!
Activity 2
Spider Web Art
Create spider web string paintings.
Carefully dip a piece of string into
white paint and then place the string
onto black or dark paper to create
straight and circular lines.
Can you create other spider webs like
the ones below?
Activity 3
Ladybird Numbers
Draw a leaf. Now draw some
ladybirds on the leaf. How many
have your drawn? Ask an adult to
do the same. How many ladybirds
have they drawn?
Which leaf has more ladybirds?
Which leaf has fewer?
P.E.
Wednesday 17th June
Activity 1:
Minibeast Hunt
Go into the garden or into a local
park. Hunt for minibeasts! How
many can you find?
Use the checklist (see resources) to
tick off the minibeasts that you find.
Which one is the most popular?
Which ones can you not find?
Activity 2
Move Like a Minibeast
Can you move like a caterpillar? How
about a spider? Think of a minibeast
and try to copy how it moves.
To help you, have a look at the
Minibeast Action Cards (see
resources).
Activity 3
‘What Am I?’
Open the Powerpoint resource,
‘What Am I?’ to play a minibeast
guessing game. Click on the leaves
to reveal individual clues. Put the
answers together to guess the
minibeast. Can you guess the
answer after one clue or do you
need all three?
P.E.
Thursday 18th June
Activity 1:
Craft Minibeasts
Follow the instructions (see
resources) to make a paper plate
spider’s web or a paper bowl
ladybird.
Can you think of other ways that you
could use a paper plate or a paper
bowl to make different minibeasts?
Activity 2
‘5 Rules’ for Minibeasts!
How do we look after and care for
minibeasts? Can you think of five
rules that would help someone look
after minibeasts?
Activity 3
Classical Minibeast Music
Listen to some minibeast inspired
classical music (see below). How
does the music make you want to
move? Does the music make you
think of the minibeast that inspired
it?
‘The Flight of the Bumblebee’ by
Rimsky-Korsakov.
‘The Wasps’ by Vaughan-Williams.
‘From the Diary of a Fly’ by Bela
Bartok.
P.E.
Friday 19th June
Activity 1:
Wacky Minibeasts
Use chalks to draw outdoors or paint
indoors. Create your own wacky
minibeasts, e.g. add the legs of a
spider to the body of a ladybird and
then give it some dragonfly wings!
What would you call this minibeast?
A ‘Ladyspider-dragon’ perhaps?
Activity 2
Minibeast Masks
1. Cut a paper plate in half. Then cut out a triangle from the straight edge so there’s
room for your nose.
2. Hold the mask up to your face and mark where the eye holes should be, then cut
them out.
3. Now it’s time to decorate your mask.
Take a look at amazing minibeast
images in books or on the internet.
4. If your creepy crawly has antennae,
punch two holes at the top of the mask
and attach some pipe cleaners.
5. Finally, punch holes at either side and attach some string or elastic to tie the
mask round your head.
Activity 3
‘The Snail’
Henri Matisse used pieces of
coloured paper to create this picture
called ‘The Snail’. Create your own
snail (or other minibeast) using only
coloured paper. Don’t glue the
paper down, as this means you can
move the pieces around. Take a
photo of the finished minibeast!
