Dear People of Holy Family:

What a whirlwind two weeks I have just completed!

Holy Week was beautiful and solemn here at the Ca-

thedral with thirty-five people receiving the Easter Sac-

raments at the Easter Vigil. Holy Week is always

memorable beginning with the Mass of the Oils on

Tuesday when all of the priests of the diocese renewed

our commitment to the priesthood we share in this

eastern half of Oklahoma. Holy Thursday is a time of

deep reflection and prayer ending each year with ado-

ration until midnight. Good Friday again reminded us of

the great goodness and kindness of our God in giving

us His Son to die for our sins. The Easter Vigil and

Easter Sunday are truly great experiences as we re-

called and remembered that we are not dumped to ev-

erlasting death but raised to eternal life. Normally I find

myself exhausted by the last Mass on Easter Sunday

due to the many confessions and the depth of the cere-

monies each day during Holy Week.

This year however did not allow rest during Easter

week because the National Catholic Education Asso-

Sincerely in the Risen Lord,

Msgr. Gregory A. Gier

ciation honored me with the Distinguished Pastor

Award. The event was memorable, educational and a

great deal of fun. Several friends and family as well as

teachers accompanied Principal Jay Luetkemeyer and

me to New Orleans for the ceremony. I am deeply hon-

ored to have received this award along with seven

other pastors. We were all very awed by the whole

event. It is a tremendously invigorating experience to

be in the presence of so many people who are so en-

thusiastic about Catholic Education. I am deeply grate-

ful to all of the teachers, parents and members of the

School Advisory Board who helped make this happen. I

am also deeply thankful for all of you who assist our

school in any way. Holy Family Cathedral School is a

true gem in our city and we should all be very proud to

be associated with it.

Now that summer is approaching, maybe we can

have a little to recoup energy and vitality. I hope you all

had an affective Lent and are enjoying a blessed and

holy Easter Season.

Notes from the Knightstand

Yes! This is the last call for your

collectibles for the parish garage sale

to be held in early June. So, double

check your closets, attic and base-

ment for any overlooked things you

would care to donate to the sale. Re-

member! - The happiness of a ga-

rage sale shopper depends on you!

Meanwhile, things have been hum-

ming back at the Round Table. The

last weekend of April found our es-

teemed Grand Knight, B.D.Tidmore,

and his trusted cohort, Kevin Eiken-

berry, in attendance at the K. of C.

State Convention which was held at

the Doubletree Hotel located in the

Warren Center. Any news of that

function, though, will need to await a

later reporting.

The Council has been active in

support of a current State K.C. pro-

ject dubbed the Ultra Sound Initia-

tive. This project seeks, among other

things, to raise $60,000 from the

Councils in the Tulsa Diocese in or-

der to purchase an approved mobile

ultra-sound equipped clinic for

Holy Family Council 10388

Catholic Charities to use in their

medical/clinical projects in rural ar-

eas of the Tulsa Diocese. Thus far

our Council has donated $600 of

which one-half came from Council

funds (thanks to all those pan-

cakes!), and one-half from donations

of various Knights themselves. This

is part and parcel of the Knights

overall mission regarding pro-life.

Now this is not a plea for funds but if

you were of a mind to donate to this

cause we urge you to do so. Any

donations received by the Council

are tax deductible as a charitable

donation and should be donated as

being made for the Ultra-Sound Ini-

tiative. Looking ahead this month the

Council has the Altar Servers

Awards on tap, and the final pancake

breakfast of the season. And so, as

we take our leave we ask you to re-

member - come again whence Sep-

tember!

Have a pleasant summer, one and

all! Pax
