Young Adult and Outreach Our Ministry to Young Adults continues to bring together young men and women ages 1835, and integrate them more into the life of the parish. The activities in 2010 included a Conference with the Orthodox Bishops in the West held on the Sunday of Orthodoxy; a Lenten Retreat, held March 1921, in conjunction with Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral; a Summer baseball game social event; a Q. & A. Opportunity with Metropolitan Nikitas from the PAOI at Berkeley; and an Advent dinner discussion, also in conjunction with Saint Sophia young adults. Also, the ongoing community service of the parish monthly participation at the Pasadena Shelter for the homeless continues to be led by our young adults. SAINT STEVEN’S “MYRHHBEARING WOMEN” With the support of the Cathedral Women’s Auxiliary, in 2010 we established a new ministry, Saint Steven’s Myrrhbearing Women, which is primarily a women’s ministry to sick and elderly woman in the parish. The introduction of this ministry was met with much enthusiasm. Publications and Internet Ministry In addition to the regular publication of the Cathedral Messenger Quarterly Newsletter, we distribute a weekly Sunday Bulletin with the scripture readings for the liturgy, brief articles on the spiritual life, and information about upcoming parish events. We continue to maintain www.saintstevens.org , our Cathedral Website, which is regularly updated with new information about the parish. A weekly EBulletin, similar in content to the Sunday Bulletin is sent regularly to some 200 email recipients. Property, Buildings and Maintenance With the efforts of the volunteer maintenance and building committees, all maintenance and repairs of our Cathedral facilities is done regularly. Visitors to our property are always impressed with the nicely wellgroomed appearance. Though the maintenance cost is a substantial part of our operating budget, we all appreciate the clean, quiet, well maintained and most peaceful appearance of our 8acre Cathedral campus. As the upkeep is ongoing, most recently we made needed repairs to water lines and installed new gas lines into our Social Hall. Leadership and Auxiliaries Another area of accomplishment during the year was through the dedicated service of our Cathedral boards and auxiliaries. Some 200 volunteers continue to offer their time and talents in various ministries ranging from board service to parish support through auxiliary and committee work. We are so grateful for the commitment demonstrated by our many volunteers who serve in leadership capacities on our Cathedral Board of Control, Board of Trustees, Executive Board, Auxiliary Boards and numerous other committees. ANNUAL REPORT 2010 Saint Steven’s Serbian Orthodox Cathedral 1621 West Garvey Avenue Alhambra, California Youth Ministry As part of our ongoing ministry to our high school students, and with the help and sponsorship of our Cathedral Religious Cultural Association, in 2010, we organized a trip to New York City on April 711. This was probably among the finest of trips thus far with students participating in educational and funfilled activities at Saint Vladimir’s Seminary, Saint Sava Cathedral, Stew Leonard’s Place, and Manhattan. The teens produced a daily journal with photographs which were uploaded onto our Cathedral website each day during the trip. Sunday School In 2010, we had 95 children registered in our Church School. We have 28 Sunday School Teachers and one Superintendent. The curriculum is designed to offer every student from PreSchool to 12th Grade, a firm knowledge of their Orthodox faith as well as the opportunity to further develop their own spiritual awareness. Winter & Summer Camps Our Cathedral organizes an annual parish Winter Camp for Sunday School children. In 2010, it was held at Camp Wrightwood on January 2123, with 30 students and 9 staff members. Our parish children also participated in the Summer Camp Program of our Western American Diocese. Vacation Church School August 912, 2010, we conducted a very successful Vacation Church School Program for PK through 6 th grade children on the theme of Heroes in the Bible.Serbian Cultural Program We have 2 Instructors and 54 students, representing 4 grade levels receiving instruction in traditional Serbian dancing. In order to keep the Liturgy and Christian Education the top priority for our children, we continue to insist on the policy that only those Sunday School students who maintain attendance in Liturgy and Church School are eligible to participate in our cultural programs and classes. Christian Education Opportunities Bible Fellowship Each month, we conduct six bible fellowship groups for adults throughout the territory of the parish, with some 62 participants. The gatherings are designed to listen to the message of the Holy Scripture and discuss their application to our everyday life. Parent Study Fellowship On Sundays during the school year, while children are in Sunday School, parents meet regularly with the clergy to discuss various aspects of the Orthodox faith, family life and contemporary issues. Women’s Conferences In 2010 we continued our bimonthly series of “Tea and Study” for Orthodox Christian women. Presentation topics range from the role of women in the church, experiencing the festal season in the Church and home, and challenges families face in contemporary society. Dinner Lecture Series With the visit of Hieromonk Damascene from our Saint Herman’s Monastery on May 16, 2010, we provided information to the parishioners on the lives of Saints Justin of Chelije and Simeon of Dajbabe, newly entered into the calendar of saints in 2010. On behalf of Bishop Maxim and our Diocese, we also hosted a welcome dinner and lecture honoring Christos Yannaras, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Social & Political Sciences in Athens, Greece, on September 20. The topic “The Boundaries of the Church” and ensuing discussion had some 50 participants. Then, on November 2, we hosted a welcome dinner and lecture honoring His Grace, Bishop Atanasije (Jevtic), who spoke on “The Truth of the Gospel in the life of the Church and Christians in the Church.” There were some 45 in attendance for this lecture and discussion. Music Ministry Our Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Dimitrios Antsos, regularly sings the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and major feast days. We also have a group of 6 cantors led by Fionn Lemon, who chant special hymns at the Vespers, Matins, Liturgy and special feast day services. By the Grace of God, and with everyone’s help, Saint Steven’s Cathedral enjoyed a successful year 2010. As you read this report, you will notice that it highlights the main mission, programs and purpose of our parish.

In terms of financial support, we believe strongly that the stewardship and regular offerings should cover the church’s operating expenses. We thank all who have helped the parish move closer to this goal through their generous contributions.

As you can see from the financial report, our budget is approximately $1,800 per calendar day. Although we have a large endowment, we are restricted to the amount we can transfer to our general fund.

Thank you for your continued support of the work of our beloved Cathedral parish, and for your active participation and service.
