EFL teacher with about 8 years of experience in all educative levels. My personal philosophy is guided by true love for learning! Studentsneed to know we like them, we care about them, and we trust them. When students feel safe, learning can be constructed. Students willonly learn when they are interested! How can we make them to beinterested?

Not all students learn the same way, not all of them share theirinterests, and not all of them should be evaluated the equally. We aseducators need to implement innovative and pertinent strategies thatincorporate different intelligences (Gardener, 1995), and all sixcategories contained in Bloom’s Taxonomy (2001) to lead studentsfrom different majors to learn the same goal content, and take them tothe next level. Let’s differentiate!

The field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language undergoes diversechallenges in helping learners communicate their thoughts and ideaseffectively. In line with this view, authentic audiovisual resources canbe integrated in the EFL classroom as potential linguistic input to fosterstudents’ speaking skills. Authentic materials are resources that havebeen produced for real communication and they help learners developa great range of communicative skills as they provide students with theopportunity to be exposed to the language as it is used in real settings.

During the last years, one very common phenomenon taking place inthe Ecuadorian University is “student mobility;” this movement ofstudents inside and outside Ecuadorian borders is relatively new inmost of our cosmopolitan cities. Along with this movement, comes anew kind of challenge for all the stakeholders in our educationalsystem. Cultural shock and cultural adaptation in the classroom playan important role in our students’ education. From this, we need totake into consideration that it is Ethnicity what carries the greatestcultural baggage into the classroom. Thus, understanding howEthnicity manifests in various aspects can help us cope with severalculturally related challenges.

Educational polices tell us that learners who do not achieve therequired score have to repeat the course. Teachers simply follow therule without further analysis. However, have we wondered the causesthat keep the learner from being promoted to the next level? Or howwill this decision impact on her academic development. This is a goodquestion that requires our analysis before being answered.
