Why then do you baptize if you are

not the Christ? Fr. Jorge A. Román

John used to do a symbolic act of purification that was very common among the Jews, but actually the sins were not forgiven because only God can forgive sins. That is why John answered to those who were questioning if he was the Christ, Elijah or the Prophet, that he was baptizing with water, but that there was Someone whom they did not recognize, and to whom he was not worthy to untie his sandal strap. Jesus is able to forgive sins because He is the Messiah, the Christ, and God Incarnated, and He confers this power to his Apostles, and orders them to go to the end of the world and to baptize everyone in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Baptism that we receive is for the forgiveness of our sins and makes us children of God. When we are baptized, we are dressed with a white cloth that represents the tunic of Christ. The color is white, which represents the joy that shall be a characteristic of a Christian. A true Christian must be happy and joyful because everything is possible with Christ. If he defeated the death with his resurrection, we can succeed in any task or problem that we may confront. Real happiness is a gift of the Holy Spirit and should be a characteristic of a true Christian Joy and happiness are symbols of a holy life and they are contagious. Sadness and anger are closer to sin. Our self-examination of conscience should be based on analyzing our own actions: if we shared our joy with others or if we caused sadness or anger in others. Let´s follow the recommendation of Saint Paul: ¨Rejoice always. ¨Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.¨

El Bautismo que Juan administraba era un mero acto simbólico de purificación muy común entre los Judíos, pero no perdonaba los pecados ya que sólo Dios puede perdonarlos. Es por eso que Juan contesta a quienes le cuestionan si él es el Cristo, Elías o el Profeta, que el bautizaba con agua, pero que había alguien entre ellos que no reconocían y que él no era digno de desatar la correa de su sandalia. Jesús puede perdonar los pecados porque El es el Mesías, el Cristo, Dios Encarnado y transmite este poder a sus Apóstoles y les ordena que vayan hasta el fin del Mundo y Bauticen en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. El Bautismo que recibimos es para el perdón de los pecados y nos hace hijos de Dios. Después de ser bautizados, somos revestidos con una vestimenta blanca que representa la vestimenta de Cristo. El color blanco representa la alegría que debe se la característica del Cristiano. Un verdadero Cristiano debe ser feliz y alegre porque sabe que todo lo puede con Cristo. Si el venció a la muerte con su resurrección, también nosotros podemos salir exitosos ante cualquier reto o problema que confrontemos. La verdadera felicidad es un regalo del Espíritu Santo y es la característica de un verdadero Cristiano. La alegría y la felicidad son signo de una vida de santidad y son contagiosas. La tristeza y el enojo son más cercanos al pecado. Nuestro examen de conciencia podría basarse en analizar nuestras propias acciones, si hicimos felices a otros o por el contrario, les causamos tristeza y enojo. Sigamos la recomendación de San Pablo: ¨Vivan siempre alegres, oren sin cesar, den gracias en toda ocasión, pues esto es lo que Dios quiere de ustedes en Cristo Jesús¨.

COLLECTION

The long waited Parish Hall is now in construction and hopefully it will be finished next year. The problem is that the cost of construction and the price of the materials are higher than expected and we are more than $460,000 beyond the original budget. For this reason, we need your generous support to complete this necessary project.
