COAT & BLANKET DRIVE October 14th-29th

(AND ACFP CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE) St. Vincent DePaul’s Annual Coat & Blanket Drive is here! We set aside coats for those families helped by The Giving

Tree (run by the Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary). We then take coats to Affton Christian Food Pantry and to Immaculate Conception SVDP Conference in Park Hills (Fr. Ebert’s parish). A group of St. Simon parishioners takes the coats & blankets to this rural parish. We take your donations on the day of their only parish fundraiser- a Chicken &

Dumpling Dinner with a Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale. Our Annual Coat & Blanket Drive this year runs from October 14 through October 29. Large labeled bins will be in the church foyer, the school office and Simon Says. We are accepting CLEAN, gently used and new coats & blankets. We are also collecting winter hats, gloves, mittens and scarves. Our trip to Park Hills is Sunday, November 5. For questions, directions or to carpool to Park Hills, call Diane Rasch at 845-8442.

We will be collecting items for the ACFP Christmas Boutique at the same time as our Coat & Blanket Drive. A labeled bin will be in the church foyer for donations of new items. Items to donate include flashlights, hand tools, tape measures, new socks, gloves, toys, board games, household items, barrettes, jewelry, etc. Items can be $10 or less in value. Thank you for helping us to help others.

Parish Stewardship of Treasure :

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – One God The readings today are quite easy to understand. God speaks to His people, telling them that He alone is the Lord of all. There is but one God. Do we worship God alone and render unto Him all the praise, honor, and glory that are due to Him? Or do we place our trust in false gods that never satisfy us? Take a moment to reflect on any false gods that you need to eliminate from your life. As Jesus teaches in the Gospel, we certainly must live in this world as human beings but we must not yield to the evils of the world or turn away from the one and only God who is worthy of all of our worship. archstl.org/dynamic

October 22, 2017 - 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” - MATTHEW 22:21 Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second.

Readings for the Week Monday: Rom 4:20-25; Lk 1:69-75; Lk 12:13-21 Tuesday: Rom 5:12, 15b, 17-19, 20b-21; Ps 40:7-10, 17; Lk 12:35-38 Wednesday: Rom 6:12-18; Ps 124:1b-8; Lk 12:39-48 Thursday: Rom 6:19-23; Ps 1:1-4, 6; Lk 12:49-53 Friday: Rom 7:18-25a; Ps 119:66, 68, 76-77, 93-94; Lk 12:54-59 Saturday: Eph 2:19-22; Ps 19:2-5; Lk 6:12-16 Sunday: Ex 22:20-26; Ps 18:2-4, 47, 51; 1 Thes 1:5c-10; Mt 22:34-40

SLEEP HOUSE HOSTS NEEDED FOR THE LUKE 18 RETREAT

The St. Simon Youth Ministry would like to invite you to pray about volunteering to be a Sleep House host family for our Luke 18 retreat January 5-7.

We need a total of 15 families to open their homes to approximately 5-7 teens Friday and Saturday nights and provide transportation to and from St. Simon.

We will send the teen retreatants with a High School leader, snacks, and soda. You can interact with the teens as much or as little as you would like

If you are interested in opening your home as a Luke 18 Sleep House or want more information please contact Susie Pollard (314-842-3848 ext 128 or 314-640-0680).

Are you thinking about being a Luke 18 Sleep House? Then anyone 18+ and out of high school who will be in your house during the Luke 18 retreat needs to complete the Protecting God's Children requirements. There also must be 2 adults present to be a Sleep House host.

The Protecting God’s Children requirements are as followed: Fill out a Worker Registration Form (MO 580-2421 (12-01)); Read and Sign the Code of Ethics booklet; and attend a Protecting God’s Children Seminar.

Mass of Remembrance

Saturday, November 4th, 2017 9:00am

St. Simon the Apostle

The liturgical year affords us the opportunity to remember those who have gone before us in death. In anticipation of this special season, our parish has set aside time for families and friends who have suffered the loss of a loved one, especially this past calendar year, to gather together to remember to heal, to celebrate and to be with others. Please join us at our Annual Mass of Remembrance on Saturday November 4th by filling out the form below. There will be a reception in the lower church hall immediately after Mass.
