LISTEN TO JESUS AND THE PROPHETS

Prophets have always had a tough row to hoe. Their words, often

unwelcome, are used against them to persecute and even kill them. Such was the fate of the Old Testament prophets, and Jeremiah is a great example of this. Jesus endured opposition from sinners, and did not turn back from a shameful death in order to rise to a glorious new life. The ultimate prophet, Jesus sought to warn the people of his time and ours of the divisions that his words would cause, showing himself to be the prophet of all time. We all need to look at our divisions and dilemmas in light of Jesus’ teachings and warnings, and seek to understand all that he has proclaimed and taught about what will happen if we fail to listen.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

All,

When a new person comes into our lives, God often has a purpose. Sometimes it is for us to help them, or sometimes they help us. Sometimes it is because they will teach us something. I suppose sometimes it may be for all of these reasons, or another that is hidden from us. I don’t have to understand God’s purposes, so that makes it easy; I don’t need to figure it out. Accepting the people that God puts into my life and accepting that they are there for God’s purpose is enough for me. Let the Holy Spirit lead you and enjoy the ride.

Sincerely,

Keith Flaherty, Grand Knight, Monsignor Hayes Council

THANK YOU! Thank you to those of you who have answered the call to help with the mainte-

MISSION CATHOLIC APPEAL The Missionary Cooperative Appeal is an annual program in which missionaries from around the world

speak at each parish. The goal of this appeal is to increase awareness of missionary work and to raise funds to help missionary organizations continue their evangelization efforts. In the Diocese of Sacramento, 50 different missions were selected this year to each speak at two parishes. Last year through generous denotations, we collected $420,110 for 50 missions. This weekend, our parish will be visited by Father Emmanuel Omunyokoi with the Archdiocese of Tororo, Uganda. He will share with us their courageous evangelization efforts on behalf of the Catholic Church and give us an opportunity to support their work in the field. A second collection will be taken up following their presentation. Special envelopes will be provided for your convenience. Donations made by check should be made payable to the parish. All funds collected throughout the Diocese will be equally divided among the 50 missionary organizations visiting the Diocese of Sacramento this year. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

six-week program on Monday, September 9th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. If you have any questions or need more information please call: Karen Jones 530-647-1268. You must register to attend.

A Faith-centered support group is right for you if any

of these are true:

You are looking for companions in faith to share your journey of sorrow. You’ve been trying to figure out the meaning of your grief. You want to get on with life, but haven’t been able to. You seek comfort in the teachings of Christ. You are open to new ways of coping with your grief. You don’t want to feel alone anymore.

SAVE THE DATE The Saint James Western BBQ fundraiser is scheduled for September 28th. Make sure to mark your

calendars. Delicious food, great music and fellowship are all on the menu. Don’t miss out on this event hosted by the Saint James Parish.
