ELIGIBILITY: WHO CAN ATTEND?Enrollment is open to any person 16 years of age or older. Students currently enrolled in high school must present written authorization from a home school official to register for a program. Workforce Development and Community Learning courses do not provide high school or college course credit.

This 620-hour course provides training and experience to serve as a stepping-stone to a more highly skilled, better paying job. Students will learn patient care, office and laboratory duties as well as fulfill a clinical internship requirement within a local dental office. Students work chairside as the dentist examines, treats patients and prepares material for dental procedures. Graduates are eligible to sit for the New York State licensing exam. Employment opportunities are readily available in dental offices, clinics and public health departments. High school diploma or equivalent and TABE test are required. A new class starts March 2019.

This 102-hour course introduces students to entry level and basic office skills including scheduling, filing, record keeping, verbal and written communications, medical reception techniques, completing insurance forms, interpersonal skills, ethical and legal principles and adherence to HIPAA guidelines and regulations. Clinical skills will include medical terminology, transcription, hand washing, how to take temperatures, pulse and blood pressures, height and weight, eye exams, specimen collection, documenting charts and special exam assisting. Students must provide a flash drive for class. Prerequisites: Keyboarding and Microsoft Word skills.

This valuable program prepares the student for employment in various health care settings such as hospitals, labs, clinics or blood banks. The student learns the various techniques of blood collection methods as well as specimen processing. Emphasis is placed on anatomy, infection control, safety issues, and communication for patient interactions. The course is a combination of 60 hours of classroom theory with lab and concludes with a minimum of 100 hours of Daytime internship in local hospitals and laboratories. Tuition includes textbook and certification test fee for the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Pre-test required.

The Practical Nursing program offers the opportunity for adult students to practice patient-centered nursing care for all age groups. Nursing theory, patient care, and lab skills taught in the classroom combined with a supervised clinical experience to develop a knowledgeable competent nurse. This part-time 2-year program is registered by the New York State Education Department for 1,300 hours of combined academic and clinical instruction. Pre-entrance examinations are throughout the year. Admission requirements: High school diploma or equivalency diploma, pre-entrance test, pre-admission interview with a member of the Workforce Development/Health Occupations Staff, physical examination showing the student to be in good health and required immunizations. Class locations are at the CTE Centers in Belmont and Olean. Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES has high standard with a proven record of accomplishments.

High School Equivalency Diploma

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE AND READY TO TEST?NYSED and the Board of Regents utilizes a different test of high school equivalency. This test is the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC™). For questions regarding the TASC exam please contact Mary McCarthy at 716-376-8211 or visit www.tasctest.com for more information.

Individuals are eligible to take the TASC™ if they are not enrolled in regular high school and have not already received a high school diploma or equivalency diploma recognized by New York State.

In order to take the test the examinee must:• Be at least 19 years of age OR be at least 16 years of age and meet all eligibility

requirements as outlined in Commissioners Regulation 100.7• Be a current New York State resident for at least 30 days• Have a valid, current, government-issued ID with a recent photo such as a driver’s

license, passport, or US Military ID as one form of ID• Have any of the above OR a signed credit card, birth certificate, or voter registration

card as a second form of ID• One form of ID must contain a current picture and one must show proof of residency

and both can be on the same ID but two forms of ID are still required• Unacceptable forms of ID include, but are not limited to: school or student ID,

unsigned documents, photo copies, and people vouching for you

If you do not include a second date choice, you will automatically be scheduled for the next available test. A confirmation letter from the TASC™ Test Coordinator indicates acceptance to the test. Students not accepted by the school and students who never begin the program are entitled to a full refund of all tuition and fees paid.

In the case of student withdrawal after the commencement of classes, the school shall retain $10.00 of the registration fee plus a percentage of tuition and fees, which are pro-rated on a day-to-day basis. The refund is based on the last date of recorded attendance. All refunds will be made within 30 days from the date of termination.

Previous Credit Policy for VA Recipients: CABOCES will inquire about each veteran or veteran benefit eligible person’s previous education and training and request transcripts from all prior institutions; including military training, traditional college coursework and vocational training. Previous transcripts and training will be evaluated and credit will be granted as deemed appropriate by staff.

Standards of Progress Policy: CABOCES students are evaluated on the basis of skills competency, assessments, quizzes and/or class examinations. In addition, specific job related certifications require passing either state or national approved assessments. Class passing scores are defined as either satisfactory or unsatisfactory and must be maintained in order for a student to remain in class and recommend to sit for a certifying examination. A student’s satisfactory academic progress will be evaluated three times throughout the duration of a class (for courses over 100 hours – every two (2) weeks and evening four (4) weeks. Attendance hours of training are available for each class reported weekly to apprise students of their progress and/or attendance status. Students are also informed of their satisfactory progress at the conclusion of their training. If necessary and at the time of evaluation, the instructor will schedule retesting and make up classes in accordance with availability of the instructor, room, and/or class setting. If an additional class, Leave of Absence, or other extenuating circumstance becomes necessary, the student will meet with our Adult counseling staff to discuss and determine how to proceed . A possible re-test score can be used to satisfy local course requirements. However, national or state certification examinations often are upon the certifying examinations retesting policy and may additional fees. If a student fails to meet any and all scheduled make up sessions, he/she will be required to meet with a program administrator to avoid dismissal.

If a minimum enrollment is not reached for a course, CA BOCES reserves the right to cancel the course and refund the tuition fees. In the event that a course is cancelled, an attempt to notify all registrants will be made via telephone.

Full tuition refunds will be granted only for CANCELLATION OF CLASSES due to insufficient registration. Refunds may take approximately 15-30 days to process.

A refund minus 20% of the tuition will be issued by the CA BOCES finance office if the Workforce Development and Community Learning Office is notified in writing five (5) days before the first class session of your intention to withdraw. No refunds will be granted after this time.

8-Hour Security Guard: Students will be entitled to a 100% refund at any time prior to the start of instruction. If an 8-hour course is divided between two 4-hour days, student will be entitled to a 50% refund if the student cancels after the start of instruction, but before start of second 4-hour block. 16-hour OJT course: Student will be entitled to a 50% refund if the student cancels after the start of instruction, but before the start of the second 8- hour block of instruction. If the instruction is divided between four 4-hour sessions, the refund schedule shall be 75%, 50%, and 25%. A DCJS approved security guard training school cannot assess any non-refundable registration fees, deposits, or cancellation fees.

Please Note: Dental Assisting, Nurse Aide/HHA, Phlebotomy, Practical Nursing and 5-Hour Pre-licensing classes have separate refund policies that are not listed above. Be sure to ask for their policies before registering.
