Vaclav Havel died in his sleep at his country house in northern Bohemia. He suffered from long-termhealth problems to which he succumbed. Havel's long-time smoking habit is supposed to be the mainreason lead to his death.Â

He was survived by his wife Dagma. Havel married actress Dagmar Veskrnova, 20 years his junior,in 1997, following the death of his first wife Olga a year earlier. Mr. Havel had no children.

Officials will also open a book of condolences for citizens to sign tomorrow. Officials held meetingsto discuss a day of mourning this week and the Czech Cabinet of Prime Minister Petr Necas willmeet in an emergency session tomorrow at 9 a.m. to start planning a biggest state funeral indecades.

At National Boulevard, where a bronze tribute to the Velvet Revolution hangs on passage wall, well-wishers lighted candles to show their respect.
