Causeway U3A — Meetings and Activities, Spring 2018
Monthly meetings — All events are held in the Lodge Hotel, Coleraine.
The usual format is an update on U3A activities, any short topical items, followed by a main guest speaker. There is also a book exchange stall, and information desks for membership and U3A+ advice. Refreshments will be available at 10.30, and the meeting will start at 11:00.

Piret is our instructor and travels from Belfast to teach all Ballroom dances in a fun and relaxed environment. This year there will be two classes - Absolute beginners and Improvers for people who have previously attended classes.

The duplicate sessions are friendly and relaxed. The Wednesday group takes a refreshment break and the Friday players play right through. Summer bridge runs from May until the end of August for a total of about 18 sessions, which attract about 40 to 50 players. Summer bridge is open to all duplicate bridge players and everyone will be made very welcome!

Our 8 week ‘Fun With Drums’ club will provide you with an opportunity to explore the world of rhythm and music together in a fun, interactive, and creative way. We will use drums (djembes), shakers, bodypercussion, and boomwhackers (pitched musical tubes) to learn beats and rhythms, and explore music together, all whilst enhancing our overall musicality, learning new skills, and having lots of fun on the way!

Garden and Environment

The winter programme runs from September until March, with topics suggested by members; usually talks, DVDs and input from members about gardens they have visited. In the summer we visit open gardens and other places of interest, sharing cars for transport. Plant swops are a feature of every meeting.

Golf Lessons

In April and May each year, golf lessons for beginners and those who wish to improve are arranged at Portstewart Golf Club. Tuition is provided in 6 x 1 hour session and in groups of 10 or fewer by the club professional, Neil Graham. No previous experience is required for beginners lessons. Details of 2018 lessons will be issued to all Causeway U3A members in early 2018.

The Golf Society, which has about 70 members, provides an opportunity for social golf and each year outings are arranged to seven different courses between April and October. Stableford competitions are organised at each venue for ladies and gents, but the emphasis is very much on enjoyment and most of us remain for a bar meal after our round. New members will be made very welcome.
