Back in ancient Greece, peoplewho were going on trips wouldoften leave their valuable belong-ings in a temple — unguarded. They believed thieves would beafraid to steal anything out of asacred place.

That system may have workedin those days, I don't know. ButI'd hate to try it, even if I had aGreek temple handy. (For onething, it would be an awful lot oftrouble to move everything outof the house each time the familywanted to go away for theweekend!)

Thanksgiving

Boca Raton Rotary ClubHost To District Meeting

The Boca Raton Rotary Local president Arris Smith\yill be the host club to more

Friday, November 21, 1958 THE BOCA RATON NEWS 5

Since the days of the Pilgrims down throughthe ages Thanksgiving has come to mean dif-ferent things to different people.

To some it is a home and family holiday. Aday to spend renewing family ties, strenghten-ing relationships. To others it i s a "dayoff"from work or school and to still others it doesnot mean more than just "another day."

To all of us it should mean a day to setaside, a special time to rejoice, to rememberand to count our many blessings.

In a world weary of strite and cold wars, atomic competition, sputniks, with untold

numbers of people living in destitution, manyhaving barely enough food to sustain life, webecome vividly aware that we are living in avirtual land of plenty.

A democratic land where a man can voice .his opinion without fear of being jailed, wherehe can attend a church of his choosing, ofany religion, sect or creed, where his child-ren can receive religious training in the churchof his choice; where his youngsters have thesame opportunity to receive the benefits of

higher education as all other youngsters inthe nation and are not controlled by so-called"party or poli t ics."

It i s a land where the focal point of child-hood i s the home, not the state, where tra-ditions are rich and fulfilling and balancedby an unlimited future.

We count as a blessing the fact that we cango to the polls and vote, in secrecy, as wewish, answerable to no one but ourselves. Notto cast a "nonsense" vote for one candidatefor a leader, but with two or more, selectedby us, nominated by us and elected by us forthe representation we want.

We are thankful for the freedom of the press, the right to know and read the events of ourhistory a s it happens. The right to take sides,to enjoy our own personal opinions but alsothe right to have our press present news in anunbiased, uncensored, factual form.

In our bountiful country we give thanks forfreedom from want • Blessed by the highestliving standards America has ever attained,we- pause and reverently offer our thanks onthis coming Thanksgiving Day.

THANKSGIVING DAY.

Do we observe this day in the proper way?Are we really grateful for the blessings galoreThat we receive, because we are always asking for more.Don't you think God guided the Pilgrims over the seasTo this country where He knew good might beAccomplished by these Christians? Have you ever thoughtHow you would feel if into a strange land you were brought? No cozy home, no fertile land - It awaited your handTo till the soil, make different foods grow; The Pilgrims did just this hundreds of years ago. Many of them died, and many were ill,But they persevered, kept faith, fulfilling God's will. They were grateful for all the good they received; They held divine service and firmly believedThat some day they would enjoy the homeThey tried hard to establish - They were never alone,Whatever their project they looked for the bestTo come to them, and they surely were blest.Let us examine our faith on Thanksgiving DayAnd see if we live up to it in the same wayAs those persevering, fighting pilgrims, who decades agoReally established our Thanksgiving Day, and soTho you ce/ei>rate the day with feasting and fun,Thank God for America. L et us every oneShare our blessings with the unfortunate, and freely give,That on Thanksgiving Day they will know it is a joy to live.

We read recently where anoted biologist questionedthe accuracy of the "survivalof the fittest" theory in theface of the extinction some20,000 years ago of suchseemingly efficient animalmonsters as the sabretoothtiger, bison with 6-foothorns, "shortfaced" bearsthat dwarfed grizzlies, and6-foot beavers.

Apparently ineffectual ani-mals such as the rodent andshrew have survived andprospered. And if you wantto be stuffy about it — man, with his physical limita-tions - has also managed tooutlast the monsters of by-gone ages.

How the rodent and shrewmanaged to hang on, wecan't hazard a guess. Forman's part, however, hehas enjoyed three powerfuladvantages which have, andshould continue, to hold himin good stead in his strugglefor survival; a thinking brain, thumbs, and charge accounts

Underground River DiscoveredBy Workman at 40 th§ US!

A crystal clear undergroundriver was discovered byworkmen at NE 40 St and U.S.1 as they were working onthe sewer expansion program.

Installing a sewer lift theyhit the water at 18 feet whichgudied at a rate of 5,000 gal-lons per minute. Forcingtheir way through a coralformation the workers saidthe subterranean stream wasclearly a river as they foundwhen they had to "man the

pumps" to allow the work tocontinue.

Footings and stanchionswere finally poured and theriver diverted back to i tsunderground bed.

jfotordortis' of greatness/The American motorist has long since adopted his owntechnique for judging the year's automotive offerings.

He simply looks to the new Cadillac car to discoverjnotordom's fullest measure of all that is new and goodand wonderful. .

And never before has Cadillac placed such a highstandard on the world's motor cars as it has for 1959.

For the new "car of cars" has introduced a whole newconcept of what an automobile can do and be . . . and howit should look and act.

To the eye alone, it is a revelation. Elegant, majestic, substantial, poised—it has brought a new magic andsplendor to the world of motion.

Its Fleetwood interiors are miracles of advanced design.

Appointments are beautiful beyond imagination . . . and itsfabrics and leathers are unbelievably luxurious.

The 1959 Cadillac is equally inspiring from behind thewheel. Its spectacular new engine, its advanced transmis-sion and its new ease of ride and handling make everyjourney the most glorious distance between any two points.

These Cadillac advancements have been interpreted inthirteen body styles—including a new Eldorado Brougham.

So if you contemplate the purchase of any motor carin the coming year, you owe yourself an early visit withthis newest of Cadillacs,

Sixty minutes in the showroom and on the highway-willgive you a full understanding of the new way to measuregreatness in a motor car. .
