CHALLENGE
8 WEEKS: 8 CHALLENGES!
You may complete the challenges in this booklet in any order.
Each challenge should use a different book, either fiction or non-fiction.
Creative challenges can be written/drawn by hand, or completed using a computer.
Prizes:
Each challenge: 1 house point (8 in total).
Completing all 8 challenges: a certificate, a book-ish prize, and entry into a draw to win a book token!
Have fun!
CHALLENGE 2
NEWS ARTICLE
Write a news article about an important event from the book.
You might like to consider the following questions:
What has happened?
Who is/was involved?
When did the event happen?
Where did it happen?
How did the event happen?
Why did the event take place?
Don’t forget to include an eye-catching title!
CHALLENGE 1
BOOK PHOTOBOMB
Using a camera or camera phone, take a photo without anyone realising your book is in the background! Please make sure your unsuspecting family and friends are happy for the photograph to be used in the library. Bring the photo in with this booklet in September, or email it to [email protected]

ART ATTACK
Make a poster that promotes either:
The three facts from challenge 7
A book
An author
The poster should be bright and colourful, with clear and understandable text. It can be A4 or A3 size, and you can decorate it any way you like!
CHALLENGE 4
YOU’RE THE PUBLISHER
There’s a new edition of the book coming out, and you’ve been asked to create an eye catching cover for it.
It should include:
Illustrations
A summary of the novel (a blurb)
A one line review or quotation about the book.
An author biography
An illustrator biography (that’s you!)

DESERT ISLAND BOOKS
You are trapped on a Desert Island and have only 3 books with you to read until you are rescued! Ask a male relative (dad, brother, cousin, uncle, granddad) to recommend 3 books they think would help you survive!

Create a playlist for a book you read over the summer. Choose 10 songs or pieces of music that you think represent the book as a whole. If it’s a fiction book, you might prefer to put together a playlist for one of the characters in the book.

FIND OUT SOME FACTS
Borrow an information book from the public library, if possible, on any subject that interests you.
Write down 3 facts that you have learnt from the book that you didn’t know before.
You can find your nearest public library at www.librariesni.org.uk. It’s free to become a member – you just need to fill in a form at the library and have a parent or guardian sign it as well.

Make a list of words and phrases in a book you’re reading that are new, unusual, or interesting. Look up their meanings, and write these down on your list. Continue your list on another sheet of paper if needed.
