    Guidelines and Recommendations

Part of CDC's work is the development and dissemination of public health guidance based on the

best available information. CDC is committed to reviewing and updating these guidance documeno ensure that they provide up-to-date, practical, and effective public health recommendations.

Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC)(/hicpac/) is charged withproviding advice and guidance to the Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services; theDirector, CDC; and the Director, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious DiseasesNCEZID), regarding the practice of hospital infection control and strategies for surveillance,

prevention, and control of healthcare-associated infections (e.g., nosocomial infections),antimicrobial resistance, and related events in settings where healthcare is provided, includinghospitals, ambulatory and long-term care facilities, and homehealth agencies. The committee shaalso advise CDC on periodic updating of existing guidelines, development of new guidelines,

guideline evaluation, and other policy statements regarding prevention of healthcare-associatednfections and healthcare-related conditions.
