Council Position Job Description STATE CONFERENCE DIRECTOR Council Area Executive Committee Reports To Council President Position Summary The State Conference Director manages all aspects of the council’s annual state conference. The incumbent oversees activities and processes related to budgeting, conference team selection, program selection, fundraising, marketing, and customer service. Term of Office Elected by the Council. Serves a 1-year term, with an additional 1- year term renewable option, beginning the 1 st day of January and ending the 31 st day of December. May only serve a maximum of two years in the same position. Duties and Responsibiliti es Core: Be a chapter‐affiliated SHRM member in good standing. Uphold the Council mission, vision, and values. Be an active Council member, attending all scheduled council meetings and conferences. Be prepared at the meetings, asking critical questions and helping the Council come to agreement in making decisions that affect the Council’s membership. Participate in the development of and implementation of short‐ and long‐term strategic planning. Know and/or build personal knowledge about the Council and its governing bylaws. Stay informed of trends in the HR field and timely issues affecting members and communities. Provide contacts and resources to help the Council grow and develop as an organization. Make a personal contribution of at least $25 to support the SHRM Foundation. Abstain from activities that may appear to create a conflict of interest; follow the SHRM Code of Ethics. Maintain confidentiality, as appropriate, of Council issues and membership data. Promote and encourage local chapter involvement in HR Florida. Promote Council and SHRM goals, objectives and activities among practicing members of the HR profession. Position Summary

The State Conference Director manages all aspects of the council’s annual state conference. The incumbent oversees activities and processes related to budgeting, conference team selection, program selection, fundraising, marketing, and customer service.

Council: Establish Conference Team to develop and execute the annual State Conference by appointing

qualified individuals to manage specific functions related to the state conference with the objective of selecting individuals from throughout the state.

Manage all aspects of the annual state conference to include program selection, fundraising, attendee marketing, venue logistics, and customer service.

Organize a minimum of four conference team meetings each year for planning purposes. Approve conference team expense reports prior to submission to the Treasurer for payment Assist other officers in the performance of their responsibilities, upon request. Perform special projects as assigned by the President.

State Conference: Develop council team succession plan, with assistance of the Vice President. Present council team succession plan annually to the Executive Committee for approval. Develop and maintains Conference Team position summaries and descriptions.

Chapters: Provide chapters with promotional material relating to the State conference to disseminate within

their membership. Attend chapter board or member meetings when appropriate to market the state conference. Make presentations to chapters and other interested parties regarding HR Florida, upon request.

SHRM: Assist the President in establishing policy, strategy, goals, and objectives consistent with those of

SHRM.

Required Skills and Abilities

Certification by the HR Certification Institute desirable.
