EEP as a professional energy management tool. TUV Rheinland Group with the support from environmental engineering, will focus on high energy consumption or large environmental impact of industrial and construction sector, as energy conservation and emission reduction projects the main target of the transformation process.

Although lifts account for 3 to 8% (4% in EU) of a building’s total power consumption, they have a high potential for saving energy.

In 2008, worldwide portfolio of lifts in operation is estimated at 8,500,000 units. The 4.5 million units in Europe consumed 18 TWh/year (around 2 Leibstadt nuclear power plants). Around 450,000 new lifts get installed every year.

Reducing the current energy costs of these lifts installation by 25% would save annually approx. 5 TWh, which is equivalent of 3.1 M tons of CO2 emissions.

Elevator Market & Energy Efficiency Legislation in China Elevator market and energy consumption status

By the end of 2009, the number of in-use elevator in China has achieved 1.3 million sets, and annual production has achieved 261,000 sets with 20% growth. China has become the biggest production and installation country globally during the past five years.

The energy consumption of elevator is around 5% of whole building in China. The annual elevator energy consumption is about 26 TkWh, which is 1.8 times of Dayawan nuclear power station and 30% of Sanxia hydro power station.

Summary of elevator energy efficiency standard in China

In 2000, Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD has issued the “Rules for lift and escalator energy efficiency”, which specifies efficiency evaluation and classification. Currently version was updated in 2007.

Dec. 25, 2009, Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of Zhejiang province issued “Technical specification for lift energy efficiency evaluation”, which was put in force on Jan. 25, 2010. Relevant tests of elevator energy efficiency have started. (refer to VDI 4707 Part 1)

The standard of “Determination and classification for traction elevator energy efficiency factor” has been drafted by Guangdong AQSIQ in March of 2010.

34

VDI 4707 Part 1 was published by the Association of German Engineers in 2009.

The guideline provides the basis for measuring, calculating energy demand and consumption for evaluation and labeling.

Similar to Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/91/EC and EnEV (Energy Conservation Ordinance) in Germany for buildings, a uniform energy certificate is to be issued for elevators so that can be easily understood.

Classification objectively by “Usage Categories” for different building heights, use frequencies, applications and elevator types of construction.

It adopts “Specific Energy Demand” with “mWh/(kg•m)” as evaluation unit for energy efficiency classification.

Overview of VDI 4707 Part 1

Two major energy consumption factors are evaluated:

Calculation to estimate yearly energy demand.

Guideline to improve the energy efficiency.

Benefits of Elevator Energy Efficiency Assessment

Realize energy efficiency situation of your elevators

Find the opportunities for energy saving of your elevators

Optimize the costs and energy input of elevator operation

Can be a reference for building rented and sold (similar as Germany energy passport)

Sustainable contribution to decrease CO2 emission and promote reputation

Page 17: C:Documents and …china.ahk.de/uploads/media/120308_Eco-Hotel_Certification_Seminar... · Electronic-driven brake Install roller guide shoe instead of sliding guide shoe Traffic

36

Reduce travel power consumption Install Variable-Voltage & Variable-Frequency (VVVF) inverter (increase load traveling efficiency

of motor) Install energy regenerator (transfer travelling load mechanical energy into electric energy and

feedback to power grid for regenerative usage) Use high efficiency traction machine, gearless traction machine or permanent magnetic

synchronous electric motor Electronic-driven brake Install roller guide shoe instead of sliding guide shoe Traffic dispatching control system (Group-control with destination registration, Intelligent control

techniques) Choose reasonable and optimal specifications (speedaccelerationnominal load)

Energy-Saving Technology for Elevator

Reduce stand-by power consumption After a period of stand-by mode, automatically switch off power of lighting, ventilation, inverter

and door machine motor.

Switch control system to sleep mode.

Improve the elevator management quality & switch off partial elevators during off-peak hours.

Use high energy efficient lighting such as LED lighting
