CE117 Process Trainer

Description

TQ’s Process Trainer (CE117) is a complete educational package thatrelates closely to process engineering in the real world. It enables acomprehensive range of experiments in process control. The fully

integrated, self-contained teaching apparatus allows students toinvestigate the full scope of process control topics. These range fromintroductory experiments to advanced topics in process automation.

Using water as the working fluid, the equipment enables safe, practicalinvestigations into a wide range of strategies for control of flow, liquidlevel, temperature and pressure. Students can investigate each of thesecontrol parameters separately or in combinations.

The equipment consists of an Experiment Module, a Control Module, and software.

The Experiment Module includes all essential components to allowstudents to create fully functional process control systems. The mainpart of the Experiment Module is a process vessel. The process vessel isa stirred tank system with heat exchanger and vent valve, with whichstudents can vary, monitor and control the properties of the working

fluid in a number of ways. The Experiment Module also includes aheating loop with pump, heating tank and heater, and aprocess/cooling loop with pump, cooler, fan, valves and reservoir. Avariety of switches, transducers, power supplies and ancillariesthroughout the Experiment Module enable students to monitor andcontrol each loop using the Control Module and software.

The Control Module links to the Experiment Module to provide accessto each of the transducers and actuators. It includes a clear mimicdiagram with switches and controls to allow manual operation of pumpspeed, cooler fan speed, heater power and stirrer. It also includes

sockets which link to signal conditioning circuits to input or output ananalogue d. c. voltage.

To enable comprehensive data acquisition and control, the equipmentis supplied with Windows® based control software. The Control Moduleconnects to a computer (PC, not supplied) and students can use thesoftware to investigate controller design and implementation, supervisory control, data acquisition, storage and display, settingcontrol parameters and gains, and real time trend display. Not only dothe circuits function in real time to monitor and control the ProcessTrainer, they also provide visual graphical display of trends of selectedparameters. Students can then easily and quickly export this captureddata to a word processor programme to produce reports, or print out

tabulated or graphical results. This software not only improves thequality of students' reports, it also ensures that laboratory time is usedefficiently.

The software includes example controller files which students can edit if necessary.

The Process Trainer is supplied with a comprehensive User Guide. Thisincludes a full description of the equipment, theory, experimentprocedures and typical results.

This equipment carries a two-year warranty.
