The beta-lactam moiety of Ceftriaxone binds to carboxypeptidas es, endopeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. These enzymes are involved in cell-wall synthesis and cell division. By binding to these enzymes, Ceftriaxone results in the formation of of - UTI; lower respiratory tract, bone or joint, intra- abdominal, skin, or skin structure infection; septicaemia - Contraindicated in patients hypertensive to drug or other cephalosporins Side effects: GI: diarrhea Hematologic: eosinophilia , thrombocytos is Skin: pain, induration, tenderness at injection site, rash Other: hypersensiti vity reactions, serum sickness Adverse effect: GI: psuedomembra nous colitis Hematologic: Leukopenia Other: anaphylaxis Pre- administration Check doctor’s order Observe 10 Rs Obtain specimens for culture and sensitivity before initiating therapy. Color:BlueWorks by inhibiting the mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. The beta-lactam moiety of Ceftriaxone binds to carboxypeptidases, endopeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane.
