Color:BlueWorks by inhibiting the mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. The beta-lactam moiety of Ceftriaxone binds to carboxypeptidases, endopeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. These enzymes are involved in cell-wall synthesis and cell division. By binding to these enzymes, Ceftriaxone results in the formation of of defective cell walls and cell death UTI; lower respiratory tract, bone or joint, intra-abdominal, skin, or skin structure infection; septicaemia
Contraindicated in patients hypertensive to drug or other cephalosporins
Side effects: GI: diarrhea Hematologic: eosinophilia, thrombocytosis Skin: pain, induration, tenderness at injection site, rash Other: hypersensitivity reactions, serum sickness
Adverse effect: GI: psuedomembranous colitis Hematologic: Leukopenia Other: anaphylaxis
Pre-administration Check doctors order Observe 10 Rs Obtain specimens for culture and sensitivity before initiating therapy.Intra-administtration Hold medication if there is anaphylaxis or allergic reactions
Post administration: Document Observe for adverse reactions
