UNSHAKABLE: “How can we stay hopeful and loving in a violent world.”I am not an avid movie goer but I believe going to the movies is one of my most effective sources of encouragement especially when life goes rough, motivational movies like “I can Only Imagine” and “Paul, the Apostle of Christ” comfort me a lot. These movies are personally well written and thought-out lines that have a very dramatic and positive impact on our thoughts and eventually, even on our behavior. The last few years, having Christian movies on the big screen is astonishing; noticeably our “millennials and generation z” are beginning to appreciate stimulating story like these movies! Still amazing though, for me, is to see them with their entire family, or their Sunday school class, small group, and unchurched friends. The bottom line is that right now in our society seeing this kind of movie would lead us to think: can violence achieve any goal of lasting value? Violence is not the cure for our broken world.

REST IN PEACEVIOLET CLARKEntered Eternal life on April 4Mother of Susan, wife of Francis

MARJORIE LEDUCEntered Eternal life on April 8Mother of Lynn

How can we make Church’s message still relevant today? Faith still works, I believe; but, how can we stay hopeful and loving in an aggressive world, where sometimes money and guns rule the minds and hearts of individuals? Most of us clash with this rule because we consider that it reinforces the harmful stereotype that people including those with mental disabilities benefits and a propensity toward gun violence. If this is possible, how could we win hearts and minds not just in concepts but as a reality that affects everybody, in which we seek to win out not by the use of superior force, but by making emotional or intellectual appeals to government leaders, institutions and consciences of everybody? Some of us would believe that there is no mental health service or “reasonable gun control” which is going to prevent all of these attacks. There might be some truths in admitting that we have no box big enough to completely contain evil or, maybe, others might think of the things that would really work are most likely impractical and undemocratic.

Violence of different kinds and levels are reasons of people’s anguish: wars in different nations and regions; extremism, organized criminality, human trafficking, devastation of the environment, etc. What can we do here at St. Isidore? Let’s work together in promotion of mercy and peacebuilding in our families and communities: don’t be afraid to speak to your children and to your relatives and friends about healing of wounds in our justice policies and practices, actively participate ongoing encounters and discussions at the parish or vicariate level regarding shrinking violence in communities. This is not just the duty of us priests who speak about this in the AMBO in our Sunday Masses or the obligation of Christian Service or First Responders, but, as Catholics and all people of good will, we are encouraged to contact our national leaders to upkeep policy and judicial actions that advocate the safety and wellbeing of all persons in our communities. Violence is destroying the lives, dignity and hopes of millions of our sisters and brothers; you and I are ACCOUNTABLE to promote peace in our homes, our schools and streets, our nation and world.

GOD BLESS US ALL!Fr. Noel

DEACON BILL [email protected]

WHAT QUESTIONS SHOULD WE BE ASKING?Some of you may have noticed that I write a lot of my articles addressing some very controversial issues. I would imagine that across the spectrum of readers, there is a wide “diversity” in how my arguments are received. Some people say: “Yea; Right On!!” and others will challenge with: “Where do you come from?” As a point of clarification, I will state that I do not address my article content to any person or group of persons. It is my intention to address my articles to issues I believe are important to living a Catholic Christin faith. I make every effort to present an issue in a non-judgmental way. Yes, I do go on to present my opinions about a proper Catholic and Christian response to any issue, but the issue should stand on its own merit. I have also insisted that my opinions are consistent with the teachings of the Church and the Scriptures. What I understand as an unfortunate reality, is that there is no absolute collegiality between the bishops of the Church on many important issues. I am of the opinion that if one was to put forth a diligent effort; one could find a bishop somewhere to support any theology one could imagine. So, I try to be in concert with the Bishop of Rome, and let his ideas be a guide to proper understandings of the social and religious issues in our world. At times, over the many years I have published weekly bulletin articles, here and at other parishes, some parishioners have challenged me on one issue or another. I welcome these challenges. I do not see myself above reproach, beyond the need for correction, nor always “clear sighted” on any issue I present. I am encouraged that this person or another has taken the time to not only read my article, but to also think about it and challenge my reasoning. Some people have even gone through the effort of presenting a formal and documented reprisal. And again, I welcome these challenges. I welcome these challenges because I believe that we, in our human nature do not take the time to critically challenge what we are “told to be true”. I need to be careful myself; to be critical of what people tell me is true. This is especially important if what they tell me is what I “want” to be true. Truth is not a subjective matter. Truth is always objective. Our opinions are always subjective. It is my opinion, based on my personal experiences, that in our world today, there is a rather general disregard for “truth”. I have had too many people try to tell me that “truth” is nothing more than a subjective reality: “what may be true for them does not have to be true for me”. I understand the logic of this attitude, but it is incorrect. Truth simply IS. Thus if a person presents a “truth”, then we should be motivated to challenge whether or not what is presented as a “truth” is not simply a wishful thought to defend a particular bias. If me, or anyone says something, some idea, is true, we need to be able to defend our statement with objective arguments, not mere opinions.

BABY PANTRYYou absolutely astonish us with your generosity each and every week! We are grateful and very blessed.

From the first Letter of Saint John: “Children, let us love not in word or speech, but in deed and truth.”

Our current pantry needs are:• Diapers – size 4• New toddler clothes sizes: 18 & 24 mo. • A & D ointment

The satisfaction of helping someone isn’t the only benefit of donating to those less fortunate. Research suggests it’s also healthy! People involved in charitable work live longer and are less likely to fall seriously ill or experience depression.

Prayer:Risen Lord, your resurrection brought joy to all believers. Give joy to those who live in sadness.Risen Lord, your resurrection brought hope to all believers. Give hope to those who live in despair.

Your donations will bring your love to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.Thank you. ~ Pat Schmeiser ~

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Blessed Frederic Ozanam was born on April 23, 1813. He was the founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This humanitarian stated: “The poor are there, we should fall down at their feet and say to them; for us, you are the holy images of God. We cannot see, and, not knowing any other way of loving Him, we love Him in you.”

Also, St. Vincent de Paul was born on April 24, 1581, he preached “How much our hearts should be on fire with love for this ministry of assisting poor people and for devoting ourselves earnestly to it because the need is great and God expects this of us.”

Please continue their compassion and think of the poor of our parish when you shop for our pantry needs this week.
