With more than 600 hymns contained inthe pew edition, the beautifully bound hymnal also features extensive onlineand companion worship resources.Celebrating Grace is a collaborative initiative of the Townsend-McAfee

CELEBRATINGGRACE HYMNALA collection of timeless hymns and new expressionsof Christian faith that glorify God

C

The Process

Creating Celebrating Grace Hymnalbegan as a grassroots approach to

developing and designing a hymnal. Thegoal was to be open to new ideas formeeting the resource needs of churchestoday. The team of editors brought togethercreative minds and listened to what wasneeded. A distinguished team of ministers ofmusic, pastors, church music scholars, andlaity was assembled and has participated inevery aspect of the project. The result is anoutstanding collection of hymns andworship resources.

HYMNS

Each hymn was reviewed for its musicalcontribution, theological soundness, andpoetic expression. The editors set highstandards for the music, texts, supportmaterials, and production to match theircommitment to vibrant congregationalsinging. The editors began the selectionprocess by listening to the needs of hundredsof churches across the nation. Ministers ofmusic and pastors developed the initial corecollection for consideration. A secondinvitation went to churches, composers, and musicians to seek new materials. Theresponse was thousands of submissions. After countless hours of careful review andthoughtful discussion, the editors, with thecontributions of the committee members, selected more than 600 hymns.

READINGSInterspersed throughoutCelebrating

Grace Hymnal are scripture, responsivereadings, and litanies. These writings wereprepared by pastors, church music ministers, and theological scholars who share a deeplove for scripture and for the actions ofcongregations as they speak and contemplatetogether in worship.

ONLINE RESOURCESAmajor distinction of the Hymnal is

the combination of printed and onlineresources. These companion tools provideworship planning outlines, responsivereadings and litanies, as well as the historyof the hymns and details about thecomposers and authors. Celebrating Grace contains hymnsthat have been enjoyed for generations whilegiving voice to new ones. Finally, CelebratingGrace offers today’s church leaders the finesthymns, songs, orchestrations, accompaniments, congregational anthems, and worship planning tools.

Celebrating Grace is a treasure ofhymns born from the spirit, wisdom, andcreativity of musicians and theologians, ofministers and laypersons, who have devotedthemselves as a community of believers toclaim once again the power of hymnodyto enrich our faith and worship.
