Schedule ofShabbat Services & Candle Lighting
At the end of services on Yom Kippur, we said, l’shanah haba’ah b’yirushalayim, “Nextyear in Jerusalem.” At first glance this seems odd - what does the Day of Atonement haveto do with our aspiration to be in Jerusalem. We make this declaration two times a year - atthe conclusion of Yom Kippur services and at the end of Seder. These two ceremonies - theAvodah and the Passover offering - both took place originally in Jerusalem, so maybe thatis why we express our desire to return to Jerusalem at the end of the Seder and following theYom Kippur ritual. But there is more to it than that. The author of the book, Otzar dinimu’minhagim, explains that these two occasions are associated with redemption. There is adifference of opinion in the Talmud on when the final redemption will take place. RabbiEliezer claimed that Israel was redeemed in the month of Nisan, when we celebrate theExodus, and is destined to be redeemed at the end of time in the month of Tishrei when theMessiah comes. According to Rabbi Yehoshua, while Israel was originally redeemed inNisan, the Messiah will come in the month of Tishrei. And so on these two occasions, then,we declare, “Next year in Jerusalem.” These words are an expression of our hope that thiswill be the year when peace will come to the world, when freedom will come to all humanbeings, when the world will finally be healed and we will learn to live together as one.It seems as though we say the following often, “this is the most critical time in Israel’s
history”. Why is it that we say this year after year? I think the answer is because it is a truestatement. As the world has changed and as the neighborhood in which Israel lives hasbecome more volatile, this is indeed a critical time for the State of Israel.Israel needs us now more than ever. Each year on Yom Kippur we hear a wonderful talk
about Israel, and this year was no different, and we are asked to invest in Israel Bonds – awonderful way to show our financial support for Israel. There are certainly many otherworthy causes that help the State of Israel and we all must do what we are able to do for thoseworthy causes.Although we may have said, “Next year in Jerusalem” let’s not wait. There is no greater
way to show our support for the Land and State of Israel than by actually going and visiting. We have two wonderful opportunities this year. The first is from April 10-17, 2013 whereyou can join Rabbi Carl and Judy Wolkin as they co-lead a JUF Mission to celebrate Israel’s65th birthday. I can tell you that being in Israel to celebrate Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israel’sIndependence Day is something that you will never forget. The second wonderfulopportunity is to join me and my family as we lead a Family Trip from June 9-19, 2013. Thistrip will be a great opportunity for children as young as six years old to join their parents andgrandparents as we explore Israel and journey through the land where our ancestors lived andwhere our brothers and sisters continue to thrive.

This month I wish to focus on the tefillin one wears at morningweekday minyan (here at CBS it is our Keter Minyan). The shel yad (that which is placed on our arm) has one single
parchment with all four Torah sections together, while the shel rosh(that on the head) has four separate parchments in separatecompartments with the same four portions. Over the first we recite a bracha, but over the second there is
dispute. Do we need to recite a separate blessing for the shel rosh?Is the act of tefillin one whole act or two separate actions? Theresolution is that in fact we recite a second blessing over the shelrosh but we offer a “disclaimer” phrase which follows. Just in casethe second blessing is unnecessary, thus having recited God’s namein vain, (without religious purpose), we offer the words “Baruchshem k’vod malchuto l’olam va’ed”, “May His glorious name andsovereignty be praised for all time”, to indicate that we doaffirmatively wish to bless God’s name and not use it withoutsacred purpose. Both rituals of our arm and head, both elements of our lives,
actions and thought, are to be directed for good, holy and higherpurposes. When we have an “oops” moment, we can immediatelyacknowledge the mistake by pausing to reflect on our intention tohave acted or spoken or even thought in a manner which wouldbring God (and ourselves) honor. That pause is a sacred moment. Itis a time when you are fully cognizant of your Jewish mission to bean “Ohr LaGoyim”, a light unto the nations, an exemplar in wordand deed. What's the lesson? When it comes to action (shel yad), we must
be together and unified, as the Bible recounts the Jewish people, when receiving the Torah, affirming “na’aseh v’nishmah”, “weshall Do and we shall Listen”. But when it comes to thinking, opinions, ideas, etc. (shel rosh) we have our individuality. We areall guided by the same text in those four compartments, the Torah, but can offer our own theology and relationship with God. In my role as Hazzan of Congregation Beth Shalom I have made
an effort to be an exemplar. I have attempted to have my actionsand words compliment one another in a manner bringing honor toGod and to our congregation. I have had my “oops” moments alongthe path but have always tried to take those “pause” moments toreflect and readjust in a way which has allowed me to evolve as aclergy person and member of this community. At the end of this month Susan and I, along with our children, are
anticipating a wonderful weekend of celebration with many of you.Twenty-five years is a remarkable span of time when one realizesthat only the uniquely blessed will enjoy this life for four suchblocks of time. Every ten years is surreal and no doubt every yeara gift. As this weekend shall follow Thanksgiving there is noquestion that we are thankful for the blessings of these years.

One of the great pleasures of attendingworship services at Congregation BethShalom are the opportunities I have toread the supplementary readings in ourSiddur Sim Shalom. I’d like to sharewith you one of my favorites, PirkeiAvot—The Teachings of the Sages—which begins with this thoughtfulpassage:All Israel have a portion in the world-
to come, as it is written:“Your people shall all be righteous, they shall possess
the land forever; they are a shoot of My planting, the workof My hands in whom I shall be glorified” (Isaiah 60:21)How shall we be righteous? Indeed, what does it mean to be
righteous? The answers given by the sages vary considerably.Yet they often include a generosity of spirit, the necessity oftrue humility, an inclination towards forgiveness, theimportance of serious Torah study, work that benefits thecommunity and integrity in all interactions with our fellowhuman beings. An abiding reverence for God is essential.Admittance to the world-to come is dependent on transcendingworldly pursuits.Even now, as I reread the 23 pages of teachings in an attempt
to cite phrases and passages, it is difficult to choose among thebeautiful and meaningful commentaries. So many of thechallenges that I encounter daily are perfectly clarified, andthere is much invaluable and indispensable advice for living anexemplary life. I would strongly encourage you to read thesepriceless words of wisdom that are as relevant and inspirationalnow as when they were conceived. There is one passage in particular that I find myself turning
to again and again. It’s one of the favorite teachings of ShimonHa-Tzadik, one of the last members of the Great Assembly.
The world rests on three things - on Torah, on service ofGod, on deeds of love. (Pirkei Avot 1:2)
This will be familiar to many of you. It’s our mission statement at Beth Shalom.

KERUV CORNERKERUV: Welcoming Interfaith Families
BOB SPECTORShalom Chaverim,I hope your family’s spiritual and healthy
well-being has been as wonderful as our Fallweather has been. I recently had a conversationwith a family friend on the topic of rules ofconduct and values related to the parenting ofhis two teenage children which led to this
month’s Dear Dr. Bob question.
Dear Dr. Bob,My son and daughter (18 and 16) and I are constantly
butting heads on household rules and expectations includingacademics, curfew, and dating. I believe that as long as they arestill living under my roof, I can expect to take their gradesseriously, be home when they are supposed to, and I feel thatthey should date Jewish kids. They have all kinds of freedomsand privileges. I don’t think I am being unreasonable; however,my wife thinks I am being too controlling (especially on thedating issue) and that I am trying to not only control theirbehavior but how they should think. Help me out here; I needyour support as a forlorn father.
Dear Forlorn Father,One of the greatest challenges of parenting is how to balance
our desire to have our children meet certain behavioralexpectations that we think will teach them how to function in theworld while also imparting a healthy set of values. In myexperience both personally and professionally, for childrenunder age ten setting clear behavioral guidelines (including thewhy) is essential to the formation of their value system (ie.learning right from wrong, good from bad, etc.). However, forpre-adolescents and older, parenting becomes more complicatedbecause these dichotomies become more complicated. By thetime our children are in high school their values and moral codesare pretty well set. I think you may need to clarify for yourselfwhat you are trying to convey to your children-that you wantthem to live by YOUR expectations of them or to broaden anddeepen certain core values which you have been trying to teachthem all along, such as thinking for themselves, takingresponsibility for their actions and continuing to explore and beopen to a deepening sense of Jewish identity no matter who theydate. The first is achieved through behavioral management ordictates, and the second is achieved through dialogue andopenness to their own internal process. Ultimately thesedecisions are between you and your wife, but my suggestion isthat you be careful in walking this fine line and allow them toengage in the adolescent task of examining their own actions, beliefs and values (even when they are not in keeping with yourown) so that they may struggle with these issues and come totheir own conclusions. Chances are that wherever they end upwill not be so far from where you are and hopefully you canboth benefit from dialogue and openness between you. As always, I welcome your constructive comments and
feedback. I can be contacted at [email protected].
NEWS FROM THE KETER MINYANBy Harold Schwartz
Now that the Holiday season is complete, our Minyan isback to a normal schedule of 6:45 AM daily. Our new RitualDirector, Naomi Weiss is working very hard attempting toencourage more congregants to become active Torah readers.A great way to become more confident and proficient is byreading at our Minyan on Monday or Thursday mornings. Itis a small group setting that is relaxed and not intimidatingfor someone to practice their reading skills. If interested, contact Naomi or any member of the clergy.Continuing our discussion of Synagogue architecture, the
presence of windows on the east facing wall is controversial.Although said to be a distraction, the late Rabbi Kook saidthat windows are needed so that when we pray we are awareof the needs of the world-at-large and not only pray for ourown needs. Often a compromise is reached and the windowson the east facing wall are either stained glass or covered insome fashion. The interior of the synagogue was relatively simple and
functional. The most striking object one encounters whenentering the sanctuary is the Bimah, or raised platform fromwhich traditionally the Torah was read. It was located in thecenter of the room and was designated for Torah readingonly. This symbolized the central role of the Torah in ourlives. Many Synagogues still maintain this layout and havean additional Bimah in the front for the Rabbi and Cantor. Asstyles evolved, as in our sanctuary, only a front positionedBimah is used for all aspects of the service. The Aron Hakodesh, the Holy Ark is ever-present as a
reminder of the ancient Tabernacle in the desert whichcontained the tablets that Moses received from God. The Arkis covered by a drape called the Parochet as a reminder ofthe Bible telling us that Moses “put up the curtain….andscreened off the Ark... (Exodus 40:21) Lastly, the NerTamid, or eternal light, is always illuminated before the Arkas a reminder of the Priests in ancient times that werecommanded to keep the “candelabrum lit before the Lord toburn regularly” (Lev.24:4). The eternal light symbolizes thespiritual enlightenment that is forever emanating from theTorah.

When Dr. Wollschlaeger’s own children began asking about his parents’ andhis past, he made the decision to tell them the truth about his family and upbringing. He wanted them to understand what so dramatically changed his life; to give thema sense of knowing their family history in a way that was different than his ownexperience.
Sharing with them in this way caused him to explore the relationship betweenhis father and himself, and how that relationship was overshadowed by the Holocaustand everything associated with it. The unresolved conflict between the two of them, combined with his father’s complete denial of any wrongdoing, motivated Wollschlaegerto search for answers. He found those answers within his newly-acquired faith, andlearned that against all odds, lasting change actually is possible.

Thankfully, our school is busy and prosperous. Here are a fewhighlights from the year thus far:
• Due to a late surge in school registrations, we had to fill two newteaching positions for additional Kindergarten and First Grade classes. This is my absolute favorite problem to have.
• Our first graders have visited the Garoon Science Center at the JCC inLake Zurich. Teacher Lenna Scott connected aspects of our physicalworld to the acts of creation in the Torah. Very well received, it is a tripwe will reschedule into the future.
• Our 8th and 9th graders chose the electives that they are learning everyother Tuesday. Their choices represent an interesting juxtaposition ofmodern Jewish expression and tradition. The first is Judaism 2.0, whichexamines the portrayal of Jewish characters on the Web as well asgiving students 21st century tools for Jewish expression throughTweeting and Animoto graphic presentations. The other selection wasa more “adult appropriate” take on our holidays, including stories, skills, and food prep. Also, the 10th graders opted to continue acolloquium with me that began last year.
• We hosted an informal Parent Teacher Nosh for the Kindergartenthrough third grade classes. We sat around tables with coffee and minibagels, and the teachers introduced themselves and shared their visionsfor the coming year. In turn, parents shared their goals and ideas. KarenWadler, our Librarian, organized the sign-up’s for the VIP (VeryImportant Parent) volunteer reading opportunities for each of the lowergrades. Last year we had a 95% participation rate and look forward tothe same this year. It is a powerful thing when parents come into thesynagogue and take part in leading their child’s Jewish education.
• Craig Taubman sang into our Jewish hearts back in October. Ourchildren’s choir sang along for a pair of songs as well. Kudos to CantorStoehr for preparing his singers with so little time after the HighHolidays. All hearts were touched. Craig represents the epitome ofunique moments in Jewish soul education; families coming together
for powerful Jewish touch-points here at the congregation. • Poet and mitzvah-maven Danny Siegel paid us a visit. His message forour students is clear. It is quite simply up to us to improve the world, and mitzvot are the blueprint for moving forward. A personal asidehere: I first met Danny as a USYer at a Leadership Training Institutein northern California. His message resonates as clearly now as it didthen.
• Jill Olefsky, our Social Action Chair, has made the rounds in ourclassrooms, echoing Danny Siegel’s message with tachlisopportunities.
• We had our second annual fire drills for both Sundays and Tuesdays.Record time. The safety of our little blessings come before all else.
The first American Thanksgiving was held in Plymouth,Massachusetts in 1621. There is strong evidence that links that celebrationto our holiday of Sukkot which is, among other things, a harvest festival.May we all seize the upcoming opportunity to give thanks for all of ourblessings.

Shalom,This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to have had
my parents come in town from Kansas City. I told themthat now that I was comfortable with the synagogue andstarting to get grips on Chicago, I wanted them to see mynew life in Chicago. While they loved seeing the sights ofChicago, what stood out for them most was coming to thesynagogue and seeing how welcoming the staff, clergyand members all were to them. More importantly, as Ishowed them around and introduced them to many ofyou, I realized that Beth Shalom has become a place I cancall home as well. I love coming to work everyday, thepeople that I work with, and especially the families andcongregants that I have interacted with. However, I amstill relatively the new guy on campus, so if I have nothad a chance to meet you, please come up and introduceyourself to me when you see me.This past month was filled with really amazing
programs, and all of them were very successful. Themonth kicked off with our Kadima and USY Sukkah hop,and I know for a fact no one left hungry!! Kadima alsohad a big event at the end of the month where we madebears for charity while watching the Bears game and“Bear”B-Q’ing. Nitzanim and Chaverim were alsofortunate to have sweated out multiple games of gagaafter services in the middle of the month. Many moreexciting activities will be coming up in November, and ifyou ever wonder what’s going on you can go to the BethShalom website and look at upcoming events under theyouth activities tab. One event I will quickly highlight in November is the
Matisyahu concert. USY has been fortunate enough tohave gotten discounted tickets to the Matisyahu concert atViper Alley on Monday, November 12. We will beteaming up with two other USY chapters for this excitingevent. If anyone has any questions about the concert orany youth programming; or if you would like to purchaseMatisyahu tickets for your high school students, pleasefeel free to e-mail me: [email protected] orcall the office (847) 498-4100 x25.

SKIP is a cooperative program in which families, congregations, and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago each contributefunds toward an Israel Experience program for participatingstudents. The SKIP goal is for each student to travel to Israel as partof his/her Jewish education. Enrollment begins during a student’s3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and continues through 9th grade. Bothpublic school and day school students are eligible. The combinedannual contribution for our children at Beth Shalom is $255 ($70from each family, matched by $100 from our congregation and $85from Federation). Although the SKIP program may not cover theentire cost of a trip to Israel, the funds make a considerablereduction in the expense. Remember that the funds are in aninterest-bearing account. Furthermore, families in financial needcan apply for scholarships from other sources.Enrollment is arranged through our synagogue. After the initial
enrollment form is completed, we are responsible for the rest –submitting the partnership agreements, transferring the funds andreporting our children’s names to the Federation. Enrollmentinformation will arrive in November, with a deadline of December1st for the submission of forms and checks. There are many wonderful Israel Experience programs out there
– everything from internship programs in various fields to volunteerprograms to sports-based programs to study programs of almostany length. Your child’s SKIP funds (as well as Gift of Israel funds)can provide the opportunity of a lifetime. Birthright Israel is awonderful program but not everyone is guaranteed a spot on aBirthright trip. Your child’s SKIP funds ensure that he or she willbe able to go to Israel at least once, if not more than once, even ifBirthright Israel is not an option.
Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I register my child?
When you receive the enrollment information, you need tocomplete the forms and send a $70 check, made payable toCongregation Beth Shalom, by December 1st. The only specialinformation you need in order to complete the forms is yourchild’s social security number.
What if I forget to sign up in 3rd grade? May I start my child at alater date?
Yes, you may begin participating when your child is in 3rd, 4th,5th, or 6th grade.
If I want to enroll my child who is currently in 4th grade, may I paypast 9th grade and make up a missing year?
You may begin contributions in grades 3, 4, 5, or 6 but you mayonly contribute through 9th grade.
If my child would like to go to Israel before the completion of 9thgrade, may I use his/her funds one year earlier?
S.K.I.P. ‘s goal is for funds to be used for a high school orcollege Israel Experience program and is designed forsophomore high school students or older.
My child is in 6th grade and I would like to begin a SKIP account.May I enroll him now and pay for the previous years (for 3rd, 4th,or 5th grades)?
You certainly may enroll your child in 6th grade. However,catch-up payments are not accepted.
May we use the funds for a family trip to Israel? The partnership program is designed to promote travel with apeer group. Although the synagogue and JUF support andencourage family trips, these funds are to be used when yourchild travels with a group of friends on his or her own youngadult trip to Israel.
What if we move and we join another synagogue in theChicagoland area?
If the synagogue has a S.K.I.P. program, your child’s accountwill be transferred and the partnership continues. You maycontinue to invest $85 each year, JUF continues its matchingfunds (always $85), and the new synagogue continues itsmatching funds. However, each congregation determines theamount to be contributed. The new synagogue may not matchthe entire $85 amount.
After several years of contributions, my child no longer wants totravel to Israel. What happens?
You will receive a complete refund of the money youdeposited, plus the interest on that money. Please note thatmonies contributed by Congregation Beth Shalom are returnedto the synagogue.
Up to what age may SKIP funds be used? This is a relatively new rule. SKIP funds may now be used bya student through the age of 26.
Enrollment information has been mailed to all Aleph and newstudent families. Additional forms may be picked up at our schooloffice. If you have other questions, please feel free to contact methrough the synagogue or religious school office.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN SUKKOT AND THANKSGIVING
After the solemn and reflective High Holy Days, Sukkot allowsfamilies to rejoice and thank God for their many blessings. It isbelieved that the Pilgrims based their first Thanksgiving feast at leastin part on descriptions of Sukkot found in the Bible. During Sukkot,Jews honor God with prayers of thanksgiving for the harvest and forwatching over the ancient Israelites during the forty years that theywandered in the dessert. We eat, pray, and even sleep in a sukkah tore-create the feeling of living in a temporary home as did ourancestors. JEWISH BOOK MONTH 5773 is celebrated this year from
November 7th until December 7th. Several recommendedThanksgiving books in our collection are:The Memory Cupboard: A Thanksgiving Storyby Charlotte Herman (ages 5-9)
Rivka’s First Thanksgiving by Elsa Okon Rael (ages 5-9)Strega Nona’s Harvest by Tomie de Paola (ages 5-9)Thanksgiving and Other Harvest Festivals by Ann Morrill(ages 10 and up)
A Thanksgiving Wish by Michael J. Rosen (ages 9-12)We always welcome suggestions for books, DVDs, and CDs to

Good News From IsraelIsrael - the "land of milk and honey", so it is written in the
Torah. In reality, Israel is a lot more and does a lot more for theworld. From advances in medicine to technology start ups tohumanitarian aid around the world. For example:
Israel scientists making brain surgery safer.Modern medicine is advancing so fast. Braindiseases are being treated using electrodes placedin the brain itself. Because the body reacts againstinvasive materials, Tel Aviv University scientistshave developed a protein coating for the electrodesthat fools the body’s immune system.
Israel volunteers making a difference. Followingher Birthright trip, psychology student AlexaYakubovich volunteered to work at Israel’s Save AChild’s Heart (SACH) centre in Holon. As sheplayed with a healed Palestinian Arab baby shewrote, “people can be brought together over ahealed heart and a smile”.
Israel companies advancing technology. TwoIsraeli hi-tech companies are well placed for theimminent release of Windows 8, which supportsgesture recognition. eyeSight and PointGrab have95% of the market in gesture technology and willbe raising their hands in anticipation of theirproducts being shipped with the new laptops.

Neilah Honor 2012G’mar Chatimah Tovah. “Neilah”, means locking or closing and it symbolizes the
closing of the gates of forgiveness and repentance at the end of our24 hours of prayer and meditation. However, we choose toperform this closing service with a very special Ark opening. Notonly is the Ark opened at the beginning of this service; it remainsopen for the duration of neilah, longer than any other ark openingin the Jewish year. As the day closes, as the service ends, as thegates are locked, our ark is opened and remains so until the last ofour ashamnu’s has been recited. It is tradition here at CBS to select a person or group of people
who have served the synagogue community with exceptionalcommitment to the ritual vibrancy of the congregation. Someyears it has been multiple people, but today we respectfully askone person in particular to come forward. On the holiest of holy days we should all be honored to call up
to the bimah our greatly esteemed Neilah honoree Dr. HaroldSchwartz.Harold and his wife Susan joined CBS in 1988. On a daily basis
Harold helps out with and/or leads our morning minyan. On aregular basis he reads Torah on Shabbat morning and has oftendavened for the congregation when the Cantor has been away. Ona monthly basis he writes the Keter Minyan column in the bulletin.Additionally, he and Susan have generously supported the budgetof programming and other congregational needs.Through all of these endeavors, and many more actions,
Harold shares his enormous knowledge of Judaism and our richheritage and enhances all of our ritual experiences. If you havenot attended morning minyan with Harold and the rest of theregulars, you should. Not just for the chance to start your day witha mitzvah or a bit of spirituality, but also to engage in the dailylearning and active discussion that follows the service. You willwalk out more spiritually and intellectually stimulated than whenyou arrived. And I also can’t think of a better time to mention italso includes a delicious free breakfast! Harold is an exceptional leader in the many ways he provides
extraordinary support and commitment to the quality of the ritualexperience for all of us at CBS while fulfilling his own Judaicneeds. As a congregation we are honored and fortunate to haveHarold as an active member and in recognition of the generositywith which he shares his time, Judaic knowledge and otherresources, it is truly a pleasure to invite Harold to the bimah asour 5773 Neilah honoree. We say to ourselves and to our fellow congregants, now is the
time to celebrate opening rather than closing, hope rather thandespair. The opened ark represents our willingness to acknowledgeour weaknesses and our hope that in the coming year, our actionswill be full of life and good deeds, of commitment and unselfishdevotion to the needs of our community. In turn, we ask theAlmighty to receive our prayers with forgiveness. And as long as the ark remains open, we as a congregation rise
up and stand together as we pray.On behalf of the Ritual Committee, my family and my self, may
you all have a year of health, joyfulness, fulfillment, and peace.

SOMETHING SPECIALFOR SOME SPECIAL PEOPLE
On September 17, 2012, Congregation Beth Shalom inNorthbrook, gave new meaning to the expression “inclusivesynagogue”. Under the direction of Cantor Steven Stoehr,Congregation Beth Shalom opened its doors to a community oftenforgotten - families with relatives, children and adults, havingspecial needs. For those who are often unable to sit through a longHigh Holiday service, a beautiful interactive service was createdfor this community. Those in attendance interacted with prayer and music and song
and shared the beauty of the holiday with loving family andaccepting friends. The service included a one-of-a-kind Mahzorpublished specifically for this effort. As well each person inattendance was invited to come to the Torah for an honor, participated in a creative activity, listened to the shofar and left theafternoon with a goodie bag of holiday treat including a plasticshofar, percussion shaker, honey stick and caramel Affy Tapple. The true meaning of Rosh Hashanna and the celebration of the
uniqueness of every individual was never more apparent. Peoplefrom different communities and various synagogues came togetherto experience the magic. The day was created through acollaboration between Congregation Beth Shalom, the LeventhalKeshet Professional Development Center as well as input fromJewish professionals from around the country. One fathercommented when he was leaving the service that “this was the firsttime his daughter had ever been able to sit through a service.” Shesmiled and said “Next time I’m going to help lead it!”The Congregation, which has a glowing history of social actions
programming, intends to continue to open its doors to families withSpecial Needs with other such holiday experiences. For thosepresent that witnessed this unique experience, the holidays neverhad so much meaning.

read like President John F. Kennedy, heread the paper from back to front. Heliked to read about America at its bestinstead of America at its worst, which isusually reflected in front pageheadlines. Like Shabbat, it takes theworst days of the week to give us themost delightful repast. No one canbother us. We can enjoy the delightfulday however we want. Hopefully it isat CBS. Sisterhood provides the Kiddush
every week whether there is a Simchaor not out of the funds we earn throughyour generous donations to ourKiddush fund and by supportingSisterhood programs. board, is working to bring new events and ideasinto the synagogue. The best way to participate inthese programs is by becoming a Men’s Clubmember. If you have not joined, ask yourself whynot?I look forward to seeing you at these events and
our weekly breakfasts.
