REMINDER TO WEAR YOUR HAT

Just a reminder that all students need to wear hats starting this Monday, until the end of the year. All students and staff are required to wear hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. legionnaire, broad brimmed or bucket hats, whenever they are outside. Baseball or peak caps are not considered a suitable alternative. The school policy states that sun protection is to be used from September until the end of April or whenever UV levels reach three or more.

It has been another fabulous fortnight at Kilmore Primary School and I have loved my first month at KPS. I would like to express my gratitude to all of our staff who work so diligently in the interests of our students. Whether it is organising Bandana Day, a sleepover, writing extensive reports or staffing Homework Club, we are fortunate to have such committed staff dedicated to providing a great learning program for our students. Farewell Mr Thompson and Ms Crowther On behalf of the school community, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work undertaken by Mr Thompson and Ms Crowther in their time at Kilmore Primary School. They have been cultural leaders of our school and I wish them the very best in their new roles. As a school we are blessed to have strong staff development structures which allow our staff to develop their skills and knowledge. In the case of Mr Thompson and Ms Crowther, they have attained significant promotions and I would like to wish them the very best with the next step in their careers. While the personnel may change, our values and vision around student learning provide us with our “true north” compass bearing and I look forward to working with our next generation of leaders to further embed the “Kilmore Way.” Congratulations SAT and Mrs Brown I would like to extend my congratulations to Mrs Brown and the Student Action Team for their outstanding achievements in the recent Victoria SRC Awards. Our SAT were awarded second place in the Victorian SRC category and Mrs Brown was awarded second place in the Student, Voice and Agency Leadership category. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work that Mrs Brown and SAT have accomplished this year and we look forward to building upon this work in 2020. Scarecrow Competition Winners While I am on the topic of awards, congratulations to Mrs Dixon’s students for winning first prize in an art show for their very impressive scarecrow. The scarecrow can be seen on the Lancefield Road boundary of our school. Well done to everyone involved! Southern Goulburn Principal Meeting Today, Kilmore Primary School is hosting a meeting of the Southern Goulburn Principal Network. Over twenty Principals will be visiting our classrooms on “learning walks” as part of the day. This is a great opportunity to showcase our school and the improvement work we have been undertaking over the last few years. Bring A Can – Casual Dress Day On Friday, our students will have the opportunity to make a community contribution through our “Bring A Can” drive. The need to cultivate a sense of “giving something back” is one of my core beliefs about education so thanks in advance to all of the parents and students who support this drive. All the best, Neil

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:

Our school has been acknowledged for our work around the 4Rs education by being

successful in becoming a Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Lead

School. As a result, last Friday I, along with Julie James and Tracy Hecker

attended the Lead Schools Training Day. We will be working closely to build on our

current work and then support our local cluster schools of Pyalong, Wandong, Tooborac and

Wallan Primary School.

Be on Time:

Well done to

6W for taking

out the ‘Bee on

Time’ trophy! It

is great to see

our ‘older’

students

modelling the importance of being at school

and on time everyday. Our younger students

look up to our senior students.

Ditto Keep Safe Show:

Our Foundation to Grade 2 students watched the Ditto Show today. The show

builds on children’s understanding of feelings around their personal safety in a way

that is non-confronting, safe and highly effective, focusing on Ditto’s ‘three rules’:

1. We all have the right to feel safe with people.

2. It’s ok to say no if you feel unsafe or unsure.

3. Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.

These three rules underpin the program and help to support the five key areas of

the show that break down into the following five key learning objectives:

• Differentiation between ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings.

• Recognition of ‘warning signs’.

• Identification of ‘private parts’ and body ownership.

• Identification of language and feelings associated with secrets.

• Action children should take if they feel unsafe or unsure.

Please ask your child tonight, What did you learn from watching the Ditto Show today?

Enjoy the long weekend!

At Kilmore Primary School, we are always working on modelling our school values, developing resilience, acknowledging rights and ensuring that we develop respectful relationships. The 4R’s is all about explicitly teaching and then giving our students opportunities to learn about and then put our weekly focus into practise. The students listed below have been recognised for showing that ‘I can accept that others have different likes and dislikes ’. The students listed below will receive an award at assembly this Friday.

Maths Is Everywhere!!!

The lost property cupboard had a spring clean last week. Along with jumpers, drink bottles, hats and food containers there were plenty of opportunities to use maths. To help make it easy to count the items, one of our Grade 3 mathematicians arranged the clothes in three rows of three. Each stack had five jumpers in it. It was an array! 2F walked passed at just the right time to help calcu-late how many pieces of unnamed school clothes were in the cupboard. Some statistics are below. Maths is everywhere – even in the lost property cupboard! Drink bottles: 16 Hats: 14 Named items: 25 Unnamed items: 68 (48 school clothes + 20 casual clothes)

It was easy to count the drink bottles

because they were in an array – four

rows of four.
