FROM THE

If we perform to our full potential, we are a match

for any team in the country

Celtic begin their third and final round of fixtures this weekend as they welcome Forfar Farmington to East Kilbride on Sunday.

Having won both ties against the Angus side already

this season, with the Hoops running out 4-0 winners in

the league opener and then 4-3 in the reverse, the Ghirls

will be looking for more of the same again today.

Farmington make the trip to K-Park having recently

marked the start of a new era at their club. Long-serving

manager Stevie Baxter handed over the reins to

Nathan Flight, who has been at the helm since

the season restarted.

Flight’s Forfar currently sit seventh in the SWPL1

as they battle with Stirling Uni for Premiership survival,

but having put three past the Hoops in the last meeting,

they will travel to K-Park with confidence.

LAST MEETINGSWPL1: FORFAR 3-4 CELTICLAST 5CELTIC – WWLWW FORFAR – LDWLL

Good afternoon and welcome to K-Park for today’s SWPL1 game against Forfar. Firstly, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Nathan Flight, his staff and his players.

After our win against Stirling last week, we are keen to continue

the momentum we’ve generated as we play at home for the

third consecutive game. We know that Forfar have the ability to

cause us problems, as they have shown in our previous meeting

at Station Park. We were pushed all the way before coming out

on top 4-3. That said, we know that if we perform to our full

potential, we are a match for any team in the country and we

will be aiming to reach that potential today.

As we enter the final round of SWPL1 matches, the squad are fully focused on achieving the targets we set for ourselves way back in February.

The backroom staff here all sense the real hunger and desire in the players

as they strive to meet those goals.

Finally, I would like to wish both Hibs and Glasgow City

good luck as they play the first round of their UEFA

Champions League last 32 ties this coming midweek.

I would once again urge you all to get behind the team today,

as your support is — as always — greatly appreciated!

Enjoy the game,

Michael TuohyAssistant Manager, Celtic FC Women

A 2-0 victory over St Johnstone saw Celtic secure their place in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. Now a home tie against SWPL1 leaders Glasgow City lies in wait, and midfielder Natalie Ross is relishing the prospect!

Last time the two sides met, Celtic narrowly lost out to the league leaders at Petershill, and Ross says the players will use that knowledge and confidence to their advantage.

“I’m looking forward to it! Our performances against Glasgow City are getting better and I’m feeling confident going into the tie. I think we’ve got a good chance and anything can happen in a Cup game — both teams will raise the bar, so I’m excited!

“It’s great to face them again so quickly, we were unlucky last time, but our confidence will be high. We need to play these teams at some point, so playing Glasgow City at this stage doesn’t faze me or the other girls.”

Celtic’s 4-0 win over Stirling Uni last week carried further delight as defensive duo Keeva Keenan and Rachael O’Neill celebrated grabbing their first goals in the green and white hoops.

The full back and centre back opened the scoring for the Celts at K-Park with Keenan’s long-range strike beating the Stirling keeper, after a corner made its way back to her in the middle of the pitch. Hot on the heels of her partner in defence, O’Neill followed up with a clever finish from inside the box putting the hosts 2-0 up and opening their respective accounts for the Celts.

Keenan’s goal comes after 39 appearances since joining from Glasgow City in January 2018. While O’Neill, a product of the club’s Youth Academy, found the net on her 65th First Team appearance, enjoying this landmark moment in her Celtic career after joining the club 12 years ago!

Assistant manager Michael Tuohy praised the pair for their efforts and explained how pleasing it is to see these moments come, saying: “I’m really happy for them both. It’s great to see goals come from a variety of sources and to know that we are a threat all over the pitch. I’m particularly pleased for Keeva, whose family were over from Ireland watching today, so it’s a really good personal milestone for her.”

MCGOVERN HAPPY WITH SCOTLAND 19S RECALL

Celtic recently welcomed ten Scottish Youth Internationalists back into the fold after they were called up to Under-17s and Under-19s duty.

No less than eight Celts linked up with the Under-17s for two friendlies in Edinburgh against Slovenia, while both Kathleen McGovern and Emma Craig set off to Northern Ireland with Pauline Hamill’s Under-19s.

Academy centre-half Paige McAllister withdrew from the 17s squad early, due to a hamstring injury, but Academy manager David Haley said: “It showcases the level of talent we’ve got here. We’re by far the most populated squad in terms of all the teams and girls picked which is brilliant.”

QUIZ

Striker Kathleen McGovern heads into today’s match fresh from International Duty, returning from a double-header against Northern Ireland with Scotland’s Under-19s.

Just weeks after Scotland hosted the UEFA Women’s Under-19s Championship, McGovern travelled with the squad, scoring the winner in their second match of the trip.

“It’s always good to get called up, and having been at the finals, which were really tough, it’s great to be back again so quickly. It’s been a really quick turnaround, but it’ll be good to get away again and get involved in more high quality sessions” she said.

“At the end of my time with Under-17s, I went straight into 19s and I didn’t really expect it. Everyone is playing against high quality players every week just like we do here at Celtic. At 17s, it could be quite inconsistent with some of the players still in development teams, meaning it was a bit easier, but at 19s it’s so much harder. So it’s great to be competing at that level.”
