33. Burley off Burley Hollow Road

Location: US 60 W to Burley Hollow road (615) on the left for 5.1 miles. Turn left and go to the end of

Burley Hollow Road where there is a cul-de-sac. On the upper right side of the cul-de-sac you will see a

driveway to the Shady Mountain Farm Retreat. Continue up this drive until you get to the two old barns,

one on each side of the drive. (Private- ask at the Retreat office) Stop at this point and walk left through

the gate to the horse pasture. The grave site is not marked but is referenced by two remaining clues. One

is the rocky edge of the original road to the home place of the William. Burley family. (The house is

currently being used and is in sight). The other reference is a flattened track on the hillside just below the

aforementioned road bed. It goes around the hill and not upward. This was the old road to the hog pen.

The small Burley cemetery was located between these two reference points and was always a small

cemetery, possibly containing only two interments. GPS gives approximate area.
