This October promises to be a month filled with great and exciting events for our members, friends and community members. The Smithsonian Institution Museum on Main Street Exhibit kicks it off with the Hometown Team: How Sports Shape America. This event is scheduled to last until November 9, 2019 with weekly showings of artwork, photos and memorabilia of some of your favorite sports teams and players. For all of you sports enthusiast, special guest speakers are scheduled to speak on various topics on Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM. This event will be held at the Mining Association Enrichment Center and all events are free and open to the public. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Enrichment Center, along with Cason Funeral & Cremation Services, wants to raise awareness about the importance of finding breast cancer early. We want to spread the word about the importance of mammograms, and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved in the fight against this disease. Join us at the Mining Association Enrichment Center, located at 800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34601 at 11:00 AM, for a Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch. Don’t miss this valuable event. Phoenix Rising

Our Phoenix Rising Group had the opportunity to help a family living in Zephyrhills, Florida. Larry Brewington is a Navy Veteran who served in the Gulf War and worked on helicopters. Larry was injured in 2015 and hit one wall after

another. He and his wife then decided to relocate to Florida around 2016. Larry’s wife reached out to us for help to build a shed because he is not able to do physical work. He was at the top of his class physically while in the Navy, and

now it’s difficult for him to complete daily tasks that a husband should. Recently, he was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. Larry and his wife are strong, and it’s an honor for us to help this beautiful family.

STRAWBERRIES WITH LEMON CREAM 12 lg strawberries 15 Nabisco bite-size mini golden Oreo cookies 2 T sour cream 1 T lemon curd Qt size zip-top bag Remove leaves & core strawberries with paring knife, leaving cavity in the strawberry for filling. Cut off bottom of strawberry so they will stand. Crush 3 mini cookies finely. Whisk into sour cream & lemon curd until blended. Transfer mixture into zip-lock bag. Seal: Cut off corner. Squeeze lemon mixture into each berry - top with cookie. Really cute and so delicious.
