OVER THE YEARS

1970 - Creative Life Foundation (CLF) is established to develop

materials and train adults on how to establish groups for drug affected kids.

1972 - Shoreline Youth Services (SYS) is founded; to provide counseling,

vocational/educational services and diversion to youth.

1973 - CLF is certified by the Department of Social and Health Services as a

chemical dependency program.

1982 - CLF and SYS merge to form the Center for Human Services.

1994 - CHS opens our first Family Support Center. CHS is also certified as

a mental health agency and begins offering mental health services to Medicaid eligible clients.

2007 - CHS purchases a building in Bothell, establishing a Northshore site. The building houses the Northshore

Family Center in addition to other CHS programs.

FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE

Dear Friends,

We are very pleased to present the Center for Human Services’ 2010 Annual Report. This was our 40th year of providing services to the community. Throughout the years hundreds of thousands of individuals have turned to the Center for Human Services (CHS) for support, education, and help in times of need. CHS is where they connect with their community. It is with great pride that we continue to provide quality and effective services to the community.

Many things have changed since 1970; politics and policies, economy and technology, fashion and hairstyles, but

what hasn’t changed is the need a community has for holistic and professional human services available to all. At the

Center for Human Services we strive to offer programs that are strengths-based, family focused, client centered,

integrated, and culturally competent. We do this through our core programs: Family Support, Family Counseling,

and Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment. We believe that the most critical element for

strengthening a community is to strengthen its members and their families through preventive and responsive

programs.

We wish to thank our talented and dedicated staff and volunteers who work to fulfill our mission: to strengthen the

community through counseling, education, and support to children, youth, adults and families. We thank our Board of

Directors for their generous time, support, and guidance. We also thank the numerous community members,

businesses, foundations, and governments who fund our programs. We thank you for your support during the last

forty years and we look forward to being a vital part of the community for many years yet to come.

Sincerely,

Beratta Gomillion

Executive Director

GRACE COLE AWARD Since 1983 the CHS Executive Director has annually honored a recipient with the Grace Cole Award. As a founding and long time board member who provided abundant support to CHS, Grace additionally served as a school board member and member of the State House of Representatives. Championing education and family support issues, Grace led the way for many to follow.

The 2010 Grace Cole Volunteer of the Year is Joe Meneghini. Joe currently

works for the City of Issaquah as their Deputy City Administrator and he

resides with his family in Woodinville. Joe has been a board member for the

Center for Human Services since 2009. Joe has actively served on several

Board committees including the Marketing Committee, the Board Development

Committee, the Auction Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Finance

Committee. In 2010 Joe provided many hours to CHS in

volunteer services throughout his positions. Joe contrib-

utes generously to CHS through his time and dona-

tions. Joe has been an integral part of the Board since

he first joined the board, making a significant difference

toward the overall health of our community. CHS values

his work and his efforts in helping CHS to strengthen the

community.

Thank you Joe!
