These considerations can make the difference between a successful deployment and a failed one. An industry requirement enacted by the FCC in 1998 for wireline companies, then later applied to wireless companies, the impact upon rural carriers was minimal until recent years as competition encroached outward from the urban, suburban and now into rural areas. Our threat landscape has expanded to include many critical infrastructure targets because of the possible impact to society and our daily lives. The challenge today is to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure from enemies who wish us harm in both the physical and the virtual realms. Our Oregon InfraGard will show you how you too can get involved and give you an overview of the efforts being undertaken to mitigate our modern day threat landscape.

Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) Cascadia earthquakes pose a risk to Oregon due to a combination of the existing seismic hazards, vulnerability of the built infrastructure and potential consequences to Oregon’s communities. A major Cascadia earthquake and tsunami would likely produce an unprecedented catastrophe much larger than any disaster the state of Oregon has faced. Western Oregon will likely experience an electrical blackout, extended natural gas service outages, liquid fuel shortage, as well as damage and losses in the tens of billions of dollars in a future major Cascadia earthquake. Tsunamis are expected to damage coastal communities. Oregon's resilience to a Cascadia earthquake is low, thus preparing for a catastrophic disaster to become more resilient is needed to improve personal safety and safeguard communities and businesses. Yumei will discuss Oregon’s earthquake setting, expected impacts from a Cascadia earthquake and resilience planning and activities.
