Attention!!! Camp Bluegrass is Coming JULY 22—27 2007
Hey members!! Each year in the past the Central Texas Bluegrass Association has sponsored a per-
son from our member nominees, who meets the qualifications set forth when the program started, to
attend Camp Bluegrass .
If you have a nominee that you think would qualify, please submit his or her name to the board.
This person should be an upstanding individual who is dedicated to learning and promoting Bluegrass
Music now and in the future. They should also be someone who might not otherwise have the privilege
of going and attending the Camp were it not for this program.
Camp Bluegrass is a one week residential picking camp for bluegrass musicians. It is held each July at
South Plains College in Levelland, Texas located 30 miles West of Lubbock. Campers stay in dorms
on campus or in conveniently located RV sites. Motels are also available in town.
They specialize in quality
training and small classes
in state of the art facilities.
Classes are held in the
Commercial Music Build-
ing with nightly faculty
concerts in the Tom T. Hall
Production Studio.
Anyone wishing to attend
these classes should enroll
now.

Pearl Bluegrass Event
By Phil Raye The Pearl Bluegrass Event is held on the First Saturday of Every month
at the Pearl Community Center and widely supported by the City of
Pearl, Texas.
This past Saturday myself and two other friends, Don Impink and
Chuck Pascoe got together and decided to attend even though it was a
bit of a drive. We wanted to experience being able to jam with some
new people as well as get to hear some of the groups who gather there
each month. There is a performance hall that you have to sign up in
advance and there are two big jam rooms, a lunch room, with good
home cooking and plenty of room outside to join in the open jams.
There is no admission charge. There are hook ups available for RV’s.
Activities start about noon and continue until…??? We left at 7pm and
they were still going strong.
As is the case of most bluegrass
events we met a lot of friendly
people who love to play music
and we had a great time.

CTBA Member Band enjoys evening Sunset by Roy Glover
I dropped by to visit with George Rios and his boys this last week and found them enjoying an evening sunset
which reminded me of the stories I used to hear as a boy of people gathering around the Chuck Wagon for their
evening meal then sitting around the campfire and playing music. There was a host of people doing just that.
The families sitting around the outdoor tables enjoying excellent food, the outdoor air, the evening sunset and
great music.
This band, if you have not had the pleasure of hearing them, is a well balanced band of instruments and a well
balance of music. They have a great range of music and can
jump on a request in a minute. They have a great following
and while I was supposed to be there in a reporter status, I
really enjoyed just visiting with them as well as listening to
their music. More like visiting with friends than an interview.
While it is great to have change it is also great to find out that
some things still remain the same. Food, Sunsets, the gather-
ing of friends and great music.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Wayne Brooks who told me
that he and his band have some great things in the works in
the near future so you can bet I will be out there shooting pic-

California Dreaming….Deering Banjo Style!
If you are planning on being in California in June, then you may run into the folks at Deering Banjos! The
summer fun begins with 3 free workshops at the Spring Valley, Ca, factory location on Saturday, June 9th. The Huck
Finn Festival in Victorville will have Lawson Peets representing Deering Banjos from June 15-17. If you are in
northern California, then you will have the opportunity to meet both Janet and Greg Deering, along with their repre-
sentative, Todd Wright, at the Father’s Day Festival in Grass Valley from June 14-17. There will be lots of Deering
banjos to play and workshops to attend! Check the Deering website, www.deeringbanjos.com for details.
The June 9th factory workshops will be led by Lawson Peets, Deering’s director of market expansion and a
long time banjo enthusiast. There will be a “Banjomania” workshop in the morning at 10:30 AM to give attendees
the basics of banjo playing. No banjo needed…just bring your enthusiasm! At 1PM there will be a banjo mainte-
nance workshop followed by a musical journey on the history of the banjo at 2:30 PM. Free factory tours will be
held throughout the day from 10 AM through 4 PM and it’s all FREE! Call the Deering toll free number, 800-845-

Greg Deering will be doing a maintenance workshop at the Father’s Day Festival in the beautiful wooded
area of northern California in the city of Grass Valley. Janet Deering will be there on the weekend and Todd Wright,
Director of Artists Relations, will be at the Father’s Day Festival throughout the June 14-17th dates. They have slated
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage and the Del McCoury Band among the many bluegrass bands at the Nevada County

The Huck Finn Jubilee is three days of country and bluegrass on the Mojave Narrows Regional Park grounds in Vic-
torville, California. Lawson Peets will be there for Deering banjos and you can come to his banjo workshop to be
held during the June 15-17 days of the festival run. Look for Roy Clark, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, The Dillards,
