The upgraded website in- cludes a new Assist Your Child feature aimed at par- ents.. ‘‘The portal also offers new features for students, including a forum where they will be able to talk online to industry profess- ionals. The new mobile ver- sions will also make the site easier to navigate through smartphones and tablets,’’ Senator Ryan said. The myfuture site was set up in 2002 as a joint initiat- ive of all Australian state and territory governments, and is operated by Educat- ion Services Australia. Environment Minister Bess Price inspects the new aquarium at Alice Springs Desert Park Picture: JUSTIN BRIERTY Creature feature given a new life Corey Sinclair PARENTS of Central Australia have been urged to take advantage of upgrades to an animal enclosure at Alice Springs Desert Park by Minister Parks and Wildlife Bess Price. ‘‘It’s important for people to be able to come to the Desert Park and see how spectacular these animals are,’’ Mrs Price said. ‘‘It’s great for children as well to learn a bit about Central Australia. ‘‘I urge all parents and local people to bring their children to be able to be in touch with nature.’’ Mrs Price inspected the upgraded enclosures at the Alice Springs Desert Park on Tuesday morning. The enclosure houses a new perentie exhibit, two new aquariums and a redesigned en- trance to the aviary. ‘‘These upgrades took several months to complete and now in- clude a new perentie exhibit, two new aquariums and a redesigned entrance to the aviary,’’ Mrs Price said. ‘‘The aquarium area of the River- ine Display was dated and poorly set out. The viewing space has been vastly improved and the new aquariums provide better scope to increase the variety of fish species from the Central Australian re- gion.’’ The perentie enclosure is fitted with heat pads and lighting to provide warmth during the winter months which will encourage the goannas to remain active. The open walk through design of the aviary and the waterhole board- walk gives the visitor an up close and personal experience with the animals. Centrelink on holiday THE Alice Springs and Tennant Creek Service Centres delivering Centrelink and Medicare services will be closed on December 25-27 and also January 1, 2014, the Depart- ment of Human Services (DHS) has announced. The Santa Teresa, Papunya, Yuendumu and Hermannsburg Remote Service Centres will be closed from December 24 until January 2. ‘‘Online services, Express Plus mobile apps and phone self-services will still be available over this time,’’ DHS General Manager Hank Jongen said. Mr Jongen advised every- one affected by the closures to budget carefully so the early payment lasts until the next payment is due. Any child-support pay- ments made after Decem- ber 23 will be delayed by the public holidays. People can transfer funds to their BasicsCard on pub- lic holidays by calling Freecall 1800 132 594 from 8am to 5pm. Balances can be checked online or by calling 1800 057 111 24 hours a day, including public holidays. Senior secondary stud- ents across the Territory received their Northern Territory Certificate of Ed- ucation and Training (NTCET) results yesterday. Central Australia de- livered seven of the top 20 graduates in the Territory with Nina Miers from St Philips College pulling off the second top ATAR - a whopping score of 99.8. St Philips College reared six of the seven top Central- ians. Headmaster Chris Tudor told the Centralian Advocate it had been a good morning. ‘‘We’re very proud. Proud of all the students and proud of all the teachers,’’ he said. Our Lady of Sacred Heart College (OLSH) wasn’t left out of the mix with Cameron Brown getting an ATAR of 99.4, the fourth top in the Territory. Alaina Standish and Aishwariya Seshakumaran from St Philips scored ATARS of 99.2 and 98.7 respectively and Anika Patel, Naomi Ingamells and Samuel Nippress attained 97.9. Alaina plans to study Aerospace Engineering. ‘‘I’m pretty happy with my score - it’s quite exciting,’’ she said. In 2013, 1255 students com- pleted the NTCET, an in- crease of 46 students on the previous year. Ashleigh Ascoli from O’Loughlin College was the top Indigenous student out of 174 who have completed the certificate this year. Minister for Education Peter Chandler congratu- lated all graduates at Dar- win High School yesterday. ‘‘This is the largest num- ber of NTCET completers, and demonstrates a reward- ing partnership between teachers and students within challenging learning environments,’’ Mr Chand- ler said. ‘‘Significantly, the num- ber of Indigenous NTCET qualifiers this year has risen by 30 per cent compared to 2012.’’ Ben Hall from OLSH was up at 7.15am to get his results and was delighted with his 87.85. OLSH’s Andrew Davis was aiming to beat his brother’s ATAR of 85 and was very pleased with his score of 93.25 Elsie Lange from Central- ian Senior School said she was stoked with her ATAR of 95.5. PARENTS of Central Australiahave been urged to take advantageof upgrades to an animal enclosureat Alice Springs Desert Park byMinister Parks and Wildlife BessPrice.

Mrs Price inspected the upgradedenclosures at the Alice SpringsDesert Park on Tuesday morning.

The enclosure houses a newperentie exhibit , two newaquariums and a redesigned en-trance to the aviary.

Senior secondary stud-ents across the Territoryreceived their NorthernTerritory Certificate of Ed-ucation and Training(NTCET) results yesterday.

Central Australia de-livered seven of the top 20graduates in the Territorywith Nina Miers from StPhilips College pulling off

the second top ATAR - awhopping score of 99.8.
