UNIVERSITY AT A GLANCE The Manipur University, established under the Manipur Universit Act, 1980, came into existence on June 5, 1980. It became a Central University on October 13, 2005, under the Manipur University Act, 2005, passed by the Parliament. The University has six Schools of Studies including the School of Medical Science and currently 34 departments and 7 different Centers of Studies are attached to the different Schools of Studies. Under the School of Humanities, there are 8 departments; under the School of Human and Environmental Sciences there are 6 departments; under the School of Life Sciences there are 3 departments; under the School of Social Sciences there are 12 departments and under the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences there are 5 departments. At present the University has 84 affiliated colleges inclusive of 2 medical colleges. Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) is a constituent college of the University.
The main objectives of the university are to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities, to make provisions for integrated courses in humanities, natural and physical sciences, social sciences, forestry and other allied disciplines in the educational programmes; to take appropriate measures for promoting innovations in teaching-learning process, inter-disciplinary studies and research; to educate and train manpower for the development of the country in general and North Eastern Region in particular, to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions
and welfare of the people of the state, and also to enhance their intellectual, academic and cultural development.
Located in the historic Canchipur, the University has a campus of 287.53 acres with scenic surroundings. The campus is endowed with historical and cultural places like the Rasmandal, the place where the famous Ras Lila was performed during the reign of Rajashri Bhagyachandra, and the Langthabal Konung (Palace), where King Maharaja Gambhir Singh, who liberated Manipur from the Burmese, took his last breath.

CENTRE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT Manipur University has established the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development under the School of Social Sciences in 2014 with an objective to act as a catalyst to the promotion and advancement of entrepreneurship and skill development activities in the state of Manipur in particular and the nation in general. Today, entrepreneurship and skill development activities is regarded as one of the important determinants for the industrial growth of a country and it has emerged as dynamic and vibrant area of any growing economy. It contributes a lot in the employment generation and helps in the socio economic development of the country or the state. In the present day global competition establishment of a business unit and sustaining it is becoming a big challenge. The dearth of the entrepreneurial and managerial skills is one of the most major problems being confronted by all the developing economies especially the region like Manipur. Today, Manipur and North eastern states have become a major place of attraction for entrepreneurship due to the Look East Policy/Act East Policy of the Government of India. Both the trans-Asian highways and trans-Asian railway will be passing through Manipur (Moreh-Tamu sector) and Manipur is now becoming the gateway to South East Asian countries as it is bordering with Myanmar. In order to meet the global challenges and the new opportunities thrown to the industrial development in the region and also to generate
more employment for the youths and utilities of the human resource potential, entrepreneurship and skill development activities have to be given a priority. With increasing unemployment among the educated, the need is being felt for giving due attention to employable skills in higher education too. Further, there is a need to motivate and guide the educated youths to enable them to move a step forward and take up a career of self-employment and set up enterprises as an entrepreneur and become job creators in the tight job market.The Centre intends to undertake the activities for promoting education, research, training and consultancy in the area of entrepreneurship and other industry related skill development activities inter alia the following. 1. To provide training on entrepreneurship
and skill development programmes and to create avenues for employability of the educated youths.
2. To groom entrepreneurs to acquire sound management knowledge for running the organization in general and small scale industry, export-import units, services business and unorganized sectors etc. in particular.
3. To run higher degree/diploma level courses on entrepreneurship and its allied areas and create avenues for the youths to take up entrepreneurship as an alternative career.
4. To provide training programmes for the skill development activities particularly in establishing enterprises
and export oriented units based on the resources available in the state of Manipur.
5. To conduct Management Development Programmes/Trainings for working executives and managers of Private, government and non-governmental organizations for sustaining competitive advantage.
6. To prepare and publish literatures related to entrepreneurship, project reports industrial and management development activities.
7. To identify, design and conduct skill development training programmes for existing and budding entrepreneurs.
8. To organize seminars, conferences and workshops for providing a platform for interaction and exchange of views by various agencies, academia, entrepreneurs and working executives.
9. To organize visits and exchange programmes and to conduct research for generating new knowledge of management to accelerate the process of entrepreneurship and skill development activities.
10.To provide motivational and managerial traits and other training needs and support the skill development activities particularly in establishing service and knowledge based enterprises and export oriented units.
11. To act as a catalyst for development of self-employment/entrepreneurship, industry/business and to document and disseminate information related to self-employment and sources of finance etc.
12. To undertake joint research projects and collaborative works with institutes/universities of national and international repute which are interested in entrepreneurship and skill development within the country and abroad.
13.To undertake outreach action programmes for creating awareness and sensitization of entrepreneurship and incubating the entrepreneurial units in the state of Manipur.
14.To adopt village(s) and provide necessary intellectual inputs for their socio-economic and livelihood development and create it a model village.
15.Evolving linkages with Industry, government departments, Banks, Financial Institutions, NGOs, civil society organizations and other academic Institutions to promote the entrepreneurship and skill development culture in the state and disseminating information related to self-employment, hand holding activities and sources of finance.

Currently the following programmes shall be offered:
MODES OF LEARNING ENGAGEMENT With a view to move away from theoretical discourses and lectures, the students are required to be engaged in various kinds of learning experiences. This programme intends to provide him/her with the specific engagements that are spelt out under each course. However, the nature of engagement of the student-teachers will be of the following kinds: » Lecture-Discussion Session The teacher educators provide the students a platform to review their experiences, help them to develop insights into the disciplinary knowledge base and to relate them to the real-life situations. » Focused Reading and Reflection Students would be led to focused readings on various themes with questions inviting reflections either individually or in small groups. » Observation – Documentation – Analysis Simulated and real industry/business experiences would be arranged for the students to observe, document in the form of record/journal/diary and analyse
with an intention to revisit their own understandings or develop new insights.» Seminar Students will undertake thematic/topical study, prepare write-up and make seminar presentation followed by open-house discussion with a view to enhance their knowledge base and repertoire of skills in presentation. » Case Study An in-depth and comprehensive study of a single or few cases of companies or units of industrial importance would be taken up as per the guidelines provided for preparation and submission of a study report/industrial visit/case study analysis etc. » Industry-Based Learning Learning experiences would be provided through several industry based exposure for development of certain professional qualities and competencies. The industry based learning would provide opportunities for planning and implementation of learning experiences and strategies, and reflecting on their appropriateness and effectiveness.
» Workshop/Role plays A series of learning experiences in a given performance area would be provided in the form of workshop/
role plays engaging them in modelling-practice-feedback sequence with a view to develop specified competencies required for a professional workforce.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:i) B. Voc. coursesCandidates who have passed 10+2 level examination in any stream or equivalent examination recognized by the Manipur University are eligible for admission to the course.
ii) PGDEFT courseAny candidate who has passed three-year bachelor’s degree course in any stream or equivalent examination recognized by the Manipur University is eligible for admission to the course as a regular student.
RULES AND REGULATIONSB.Voc Courses:1. There shall be a course of study comprising 6 (six) semesters leading to the three
years degree, Bachelor of Vocation (Tourism and Hospitality Management/ Re-tail Management and Foreign Trade etc.) under the UGC’s Bachelor of Vocation (B.VOC.) Programme.
2. There shall be at least 90 working days per semester. The Diploma or Advance Diploma in respective trade shall be awarded to the students after each academic year provided they have cleared all the requisite papers of the semesters in the academic year in question.
3. Curriculum: In order to make education relevant and to create ‘industry fit’ skilled workforce, the curriculum committee shall have constant touch with the industry so that they remain updated on the requirements of the workforce for the local economy. Skill component consists of about 70% and general education compo-nent of about 30% out of the 180 credits spreading over six semesters of three academic years. The credit system shall be based on the standard model as de-tailed below:

4. The medium of instruction and examinations shall be in English.
PGDEFT Course:1. There shall be one year course of study comprising two Semesters leading to the
Post Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Foreign Trade (PGDEFT).
2. There shall be at least 90 working days per semester. The Post Graduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Foreign Trade shall be awarded to the students after the academic year provided they have cleared all the requisite papers of the semes-ters in the academic year in question.
Curriculum1. In order to make education relevant and to create ‘industry fit’ the curriculum
committee shall have constant touch with the industry so that they remain updated on the requirements of the industry or the economy. While designing the curriculum, the following points are taken into account:
• The minimum number of lectures to be delivered in the subject for PGDEFT Semester course including tutorials, seminars shall be 60 for each Semester. Each lecture shall be of at least 60 minutes duration.
• 1(one) credit is equivalent to 15 periods of 60 minutes or 1 hour each of the-ory, workshops/labs and tutorials.
• For internship/ field work, the credit weightage for equivalent hours shall be 50% of that of lectures/workshops.
2. An examination for the Post Graduate Diploma shall be held at the end of each semester at such time as may be fixed by the University. The examination shall be in two parts – 1st Semester and 2nd Semester Examination.
3. The medium of instruction and examinations shall be in English.
ELIGIBILITY TO APPEAR IN THE EXAMINATION:B.Voc Courses:1. A student should attend at least 75% of the lecture and seminar classes
delivered including the tutorials.2. Each student shall be required to pass the internal assessment test for
appearing in the semester end examination. The pass mark for internal assessment shall be 6/12 out of 15/30 marks.
3. If a candidate fails to attend the prescribed minimum number of lecture/ tutorial/seminar classes he/she shall not be allowed to appear at the respective semester end examination except on the special recommendation from the Director/ Principal/ Head/ Coordinator of the Institute/ College/ Department/Centre for attending extra-curricular activities, NCC/NSS/Sports and other state and national level competitions etc.

PGDEFT course1. A student should attend at least 75% of the lecture and seminar classes delivered
including the tutorials.2. Each paper will be of 100 marks. For a regular candidate each paper of 100 marks
shall have an internal assessment of 25 marks and written paper 75 marks for the semester end examination – to be answered in three hours.
3. Each student shall be required to pass the internal assessment test for appearing in the semester end examination. The pass mark for internal assessment shall be 10 out of 25 marks.
ASSESSMENT/EXAMINATION AND CRITERIA FOR PASS:B.Voc. course: To pass a theory/practical paper, a student has to secure a minimum of 40% marks in the paper. A paper will be of 50/100 marks. The written paper for the semester end examination of 35/70 marks a paper shall be answered in three hours. The assessment or the examination pattern shall strictly be based on the detailed structure given below.Examination Min. Pass Mark Max. The teacher concern shall have the flexibility to alter the weightages of the parameters in the internal assessment depending on the feasibility of the paper concern and also on the total marks of the internal assessment.

The assessment of 100 marks of the Project Report will be carried out on the basis – evaluation of submitted detailed Project Report (50%) and Presentation/ Viva voce (50%). The marks for the internal assessment out of 25 marks for each paper shall be submitted to the Controller of Examinations of the University through the Director/Principal/Head/Coordinator of the Institute/ College/ Department/ Centre before the commencement of the semester end examination in question.
PROMOTION TO HIGHER SEMESTERB.Voc. course:1. Candidates who complete the semester by securing the minimum required
attendance and by registering themselves for the end semester examination of each semester and pass the examination by clearing all the requisite papers of the semester in question conducted by the Manipur University shall be promoted to the next higher semester.
2. Further, candidates who have passed in not less than 50% of the total papers offered in the semester end examination shall also be provisionally allowed to join the next higher semester subject to the payment of all fees and dues etc. However, such candidates shall have to appear for the backlog papers in the next corresponding semester examination with the payment of examination fees and filling up of the examination form for the semester in question.
3. The candidates who have passed the B. Voc. course with backlog papers in any one of the semester examinations shall not be considered for the university ranking.

PGDEFT course:1. Students who complete the semester by securing the minimum required
attendance and by registering themselves for the end semester examination of each semester and pass the examination by clearing all the requisite papers of the semester in question conducted by the Manipur University shall be promoted to the next higher semester.
2. Further, candidates who have passed in not less than one-third of the total papers offered in the semester end examination shall also be provisionally allowed to join the next higher semester subject to the payment of all fees and dues etc. However, such candidates shall have to appear for the backlog papers in the next corresponding semester examination with the payment of examination fees and filling up of the examination form for the semester in question.
3. The students who have passed the PGDEFT course with backlog papers in any one of the semester examinations shall not be considered for the university ranking.
4. The distribution of papers and marks in different subjects for PGDEFT Semester Examinations shall be in accordance with the syllabus as prescribed from time to time by the Academic Council.
5. The last date of submission of examination form for the 1st & 2nd Semester Examinations shall be fixed by the University. Every candidate for PGDEFT 1st & 2nd Semester Examinations must submit his/her application in the prescribed form to the University within the date fixed for the purpose. The application must be forwarded by the Director/ Principal/ Head/Coordinator of the Institute/ Department/ Centre. He/she shall certify:
• The eligibility of the candidate in respect of attendance and passing on internal assessment in each paper as per norms for appearing at the examination;
• The good conduct of the candidate; and the satisfactory progress of the candidate in studies during the course
6. In order to pass the PGDEFT under semester System, a candidate must pass the PGDEFT 1st/2nd Semester Examination and he/she must obtain at least 40% marks in each paper of the Semester Examination with at least 40% marks of the combined aggregate in the subjects for PGDEFT 1st/2nd Semester examinations.
7. The results of the successful candidates in the PGDEFT 1st/2nd Semester Examination shall be announced based on the 10- points scale of the grade system. The classification of the Final results shall be declared on the combined assessment of all the Semester Examinations and they shall be awarded letter grades based on the points of the grading system.
GRADING SYSTEM (For both B.Voc & PGDEFT)

A student securing Grade ‘F’ shall be considered failed and will be required to reappear in the examination as per the rules of the University.For the non-credit courses ‘Satisfactory’ or ‘Unsatisfactory’ shall be indicated instead of the letter grade and this will not be counted for the computation of SGPA or CGPA.
• Classes awarded based on the final CGPA:1. Distinction : CGPA >= 8.02. First class : CGPA >= 6.53. Second class : CGPA < 6.5 >=5.54. Third class : CGPA < 5.5 >=5.05. Pass : CGPA < 5.0 >=4.5
• Equivalent percent marks: For semester examination: Equivalent % marks = (SGPA - 0.5) x10 For final CGPA, the overall equivalent % marks = (CGPA - 0.5) x10
SUBMISSION OF EXAMINATION FORM: (For both B.Voc. & PGDEFT) The last date of submission of examination form for all the semester examinations shall be fixed by the University. Every candidate for the semester examinations must submit his/her application in the prescribed form to the University within the date fixed for the purpose. The application must be forwarded by the Director/Principal/Head/Coordinator of the Institute/ College/Department/Centre certifying the eligibility of the candidate in respect of attendance, good conduct and passing on the internal assessment test in each paper as per the norms for appearing at the semester examination.

READMISSION: B.Voc. courses1. A candidate who fails to present himself/herself for the Semester end examination
shall neither be entitled to refund of the examination fee nor be carried over for the subsequent examination.
2. A candidate who had discontinued the study after getting the Diploma or Advanced Diploma in the respective trade shall be allowed for readmission into the appropriate semester of the higher class. However, the candidate has to complete the B.Voc. Degree course within a span of eight years from the date of admission into the 1st Semester of the B.Voc. programme.
3. A candidate for the B.Voc. Degree course must pass all the Semester examinations within a period of eight years from the date of admission into the 1st Semester of the course.
4. The University shall decide the rules and regulations for improvement and back paper from time to time. There shall be no provision of private candidate under the semester system.

How to Apply• Prospectus along with application forms will be available at the University Cash
Counter on Payment of Rs. 500/- and for SC/ST Rs. 300/-.• Application form can be downloaded from the website of the Manipur University
(www.manipuruniv.ac.in). In such case, the applicant has to enclose with the duly filled in application form, a bank draft of Rs. 500/- and Rs. 300/-for SC/ST drawn in favour of the Registrar, Manipur University”’ payable at SBI, MU Campus Branch (Code No. 5320). Duly filled in application forms (in duplicate) along with the relevant enclosures (also in duplicate) shall be submitted to the Office of Director,
Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, School of Social Sciences, New Block Manipur University.
• Incomplete applications or applications received after the last date owing to postal delay or otherwise may be summarily rejected.
• A candidate who desires acknowledgement of the receipt of his/her application is advised to submit a stamped, self-addressed postcard along with the application.
• Application should be accompanied with Blood Group Certificate. This certificate may be obtained from the Department of Anthropology of the University on payment of Rs. 50/-
ENCLOSURESTO BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH EACH APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION
1. Two self-attested photo copies of High School Leaving Certificate onwards showing the age of the candidate.
2. Two self-attested photo copies of the mark-sheets of each examination passed by the candidate from H S L C or Equivalent examination onwards.
3. Two recent passport size photographs to be pasted on the Application Form in the space provided for it.
4. A Migration Certificate from the University last attended. A candidate who is not in position to attach a Migration Certificate to the application shall produce it as early as possible, but not later than three months after the commencement of the session.
5. Self-Attested photo copies of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Class certificate should be submitted by SC/ST/OBC candidates.
N.B. : Final selection will be subject to the production of original mark-sheet and certificates.
RESERVATION• Seats for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates are reserved as per Government of India
norms. Those who have secured marks above the level, up to which general category students are admitted, shall not be counted towards reserved quota at all and shall be included in the general merit list of the admission.
• Two seats are reserved for candidates who have represented State/University at the Inter-University/National/International competition of sports or other co-curricular activities. Such candidates should have participated in the events during the post 10+2 stage.
• Two seats are reserved for the son/daughter of permanent employees of Manipur University.
• Out of the total intake 3% of the seats are reserved for PWD candidates. Candidates who wish to avail this should produce a certificate from competent authority (vide Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. Of India’s letter

MODE OF SELECTIONThe selection of candidates for admission to B.Voc./PGDEFT shall be on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and / or in the entrance examination. All eligible candidates shall have to appear in the admission test and/or personal interview/counselling. The reservation of seats for ST/SC/OBC/PWD/Sports and Culture and any other category shall be determined as per rules laid down by the University from time to time.

FACILITIES/SERVICESPlacement CellManipur University has a Placement Cell with a VISION of being CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION, This has help the university to build up a closer tie up with the Industry and the Academics, a demand as well as prerequisites of the present day business world. The placement cell has successfully attracted large number of MNCs, Corporate Houses, and Government Departments for Campus Recruitment of our Students at different capacities.
The Manipur University Library has a collection of more than 1,73,000 books, and it subscribes 280 national Journals and 43 foreign Journals. The Library has been identified as one of the nodes of UGC INFONET and readers have been provided with facilities for direct access to the data bases of a large number of foreign Journals numbering about 8,600. Computer terminals are available to the users for this purpose. The entire database of the Library is available on OPAC within the M U Campus. The Library is opened from 9 am to 7 pm on all working days. It is also opened from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm during Holidays and Sundays. “Wi-Fi” has been installed in the University for better accessibility to e-journals and internet connectivity for the teachers, research scholars, students, officers and other staff members of the University University.

Health Centre
HEALTH CENTREThe University Health Centre looks after the health of the residents of the campus, students and members of teaching and non-teaching staffs of the university. Service of a dentist is also available at the Health Centre from 1 pm to 3 pm on all working days. Ambulance Service is also available.
Other FacilitiesThere are branches of the State Bank of India and Bank of Baroda with ATM facilities and a Post Office inside the Campus.
Power SupplyThe University Power System is backed up by a 250 KVA Generator apart from other back up Power system at the individual departments.
Water Supply SchemeA network of 3.5 Kilometer pipeline connects the University Water Supply System.
Accomodation of Teachers and StaffsSurrounded by breathtaking natural scenic views as many as 70 units of teachers’ quarters under different categories, in addition to the existing ones, are under construction. About 150 quarters are available for occupation.
Sports & Co-Curricular ActivitiesThe University takes particular care for the general welfare of the students. It provides facilities for extra-curricular, co-curricular and sports activities to promote participation of the students in various social activities. The University regularly organizes Sports Meets, Youth Festivals and social and community activities through the National Services Schemes. The students of the University have a proven record of excellence in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Many have won laurels in sports, dance and other socio-cultural activities at Zonal and National level competitions.

Manipur University Alumni Association The aims and objectives behind the formation of this Association are:1. to compile, maintain and up-date from time to time a directory of all the members
of the Association;2. to create and develop a healthy cooperation, exchange of ideas and views amongst
the member alumni;3. to stimulate amongst the members of the Association dedicated thoughts and
efforts towards the development of the University;4. to provide cooperation and coordination from time to time on the vital issues of
the University; to institute prizes and awards for outstanding performance in the field of competition, project work, research papers and other professional activity by research scholars of the University; and
5. to institute and establish grants, awards, and prizes to encourage curricular and extra-curricular activities amongst the students community of the University in particular and students community of the state in general.
To achieve the above objectives, the Association proposes to undertake the following activities:-1. Organize conference, seminar, workshop, symposia, debates and essay/ quiz
competition etc. on vital issues so as to enrich the academic knowledge of the member alumni in particular and student’s community of the state in general.
2. Publish books, journals, periodicals, newsletters and other relevant documents and literature from time to time.
3. Arrange lectures or academic discussions on topics connected with vital and contemporary issues.
4. Undertake any other activity or activities for the fulfilment of the objectives of the Association.
