Vision for 2030 Our society is data-driven, enabled by near-instant, unlimited wireless connectivity.
6G will emerge around 2030 to satisfy the expectations not met with 5G, as well as, the new ones fusing AI inspired applications in every field of society with ubiquitous wireless connectivity.

Development of project portfolio and verticals• The building of 5GTN started in 2015 funded
by projects from TEKES (Business Finland)
and European Regional Development Fund
(ERDF, EAKR)
• With 5GTN+ project (2017) the test network
usage started to move towards other
business verticals such as energy, health
and wellbeing, transport, media and industry
• Later ERFD funding facilitated the
introduction of Big Data- ja edge computing
capabilities complemented with versatile
sensoring and positioning features.
• 5GTN has been used in 6 EU H2020 grants
and approx, 10 Academy of Finland grants
developing 5G technology and vertical
solutions.
• The latest development is the reception of
6Genesis flagship grant targeting beyond 5G
and 6G technologies with and aggregate
programme value estimated to rise to 250
M€ over next 8 years.
• The cherry in the cake is the Academy of
Finland FIRI funding (FUWIRI) which
complements the Flagship and other beyond
5G activities to allow the acquisition of
beyond 5G proof-of-concept (PoC) devices.

TAKE5 Project Scope (2015-2018)- Multisite 5G research and experimentation ecosystem
- Facilitate both research and experimentation of end-to-end 5G technologies.
- Foster cooperation across Finland with key academic partners (Aatlo, TAU,
UOULU, UH, TUAS, VTT) and industry (Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Coriant)
- Research in key areas:
- WP2: Network virtualization
- WP3: Mobility and Security
- WP4: Radio cloudification
- WP5: Applications, services and techno economics

Some notion on the path …
• After establishment of TAKE-5 and 5GTN in 2015 , we decided
to apply for the FIRI funding in 2016.
• We submitted the first proposal in May 2016. The result was
encouraging, however, not accepted.
• In 2018, after success in flagship competition, we decided to
re-apply as the flagship funding did not allow acquisition of
equipment to allow experimental research.
• The positive result apparently is one of the reasons I’m
standing here today …..
