CPG Pile Splices
Centrum Pæle A/S in Vejle, Denmark
manufactures precast reinforced concrete
piles. The company dates back to 1882. In
1965, the present company was founded as an
independent public limited company with the
primary purpose of manufacturing concrete
piles. Today the group consists of 5 factories
around Europe with a total production capacity
of more than 3.5 million linear meters of precast
concrete piles.
As a part of our consistent efforts to optimise
the product and its competitiveness, we
have developed and patented our own pile
splice. The CPG Pile Splice was developed
with a focus on making a safe and reliable
connection between two piles, but just as
important – to make a pile splice that is quick
and easy to work with on a construction site
and would help in reducing the total time
spent on installing each pile.

The CPG Pile Splices are manufactured in a fully
automated production process with 6 robots,
to ensure high productivity and standardised
quality. The individual serial numbers and
barcodes furthermore ensure full traceability
on all parts included in each splice.
The properties of the CPG Pile Splices are
tested and documented according to the pile
standard EN 12794 as a class A pile splice,
which means it can be used for hard pile
driving without losing its properties. The CPG
Pile Splice is tested, and CE type approved, and
the production is controlled of the recognised
German “Materialprüfanstalt für das Bauwesen
– TU Braunschweig”.

Capacities Compression & tensile capacityCentrum Pæle pile splices have been tested according to standard EN 12794:2005 +A1:2007/AC:2008 and categorised as Class A.
The static load bearing capacities of the pile splices are shown in Table 1. The capacities have been calculated according to Eurocodes with the recommended values of correlation and partial factors and may thus have to be adjusted according to the respective national annexes.
Table 1: Product range with maximum load bearing capacity for pile splices. Annex B9 and B11 applies to pile splices with increased concrete cover.
* The tension capacity has to be reduced with a factor 0.88 for the CPG-K6 and CPG-K8
pile splice in combination with C40/50 concrete. For full tension capacity for the CPG-K6
Basis of DesignThe calculation of the pile splices complies with the following building regulations and assumptions:
EN 1992-1-1 Eurocode 2: Design of concrete structures; Part 1-1: General rules and rules for buildingsEN 1993-1-1 Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures, Part 1-1: General rules and rules for buildingsEN 1993-1-8 Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures; Part 1-8: Design of splicesEN 206-1 Concrete - Part 1: Specification, performance, production and conformityEN 12794 Precast concrete products - Foundation piles EN 10080 Steel for the reinforcement of concrete - Weldable reinforcing steel - General
Concrete design compressive and tensile strength is determined according to EN 1992-1-1, section 3.1.6 using:
Lap length between splice reinforcement and main reinforcement of the pile has been calculated according to EN 1992-1-1, section 8.4 provided good bond conditions, straight anchorage type and reinforcement bar in tension. In order to meet these assumptions, the following coefficients have been used:
The required length of reinforcement needed to obtain the maximum tension capacity of the pile splice given in Table 1 is l0 = 800mm.

For easy and cost-efficient transport, the pile splices are packed without rebars on pallets.
