American Politics in a Time of Disruption
Dr. Steffen Schmidt, Iowa State University
In 2016 President Trump was elected as the president of disruption. A shakeup can be good as it forces a re-examination of
many critically important issues, i.e. taxes, health care, patriotism, cyber threats, race relations and international affairs. The
2018 mid-term elections will be extremely important and maybe game changing -- the 2020 presidential election will be epic. Dr.
Schmidt will review the things that are positive and strong about the fundamentals of the U.S. “It’s time to be optimistic about our
future.”

4:45 pm - 6:00 pm What Happens Next? Looking Backwards to See Into the Future
Mark Zinder, Leading Economic Forecaster
We live in increasingly uncertain times with questions as to when the Fed will move again and how many times…and will eco-
nomic expansion continue or come to a brutal end? There is global unrest, bipartisan bickering and an underlying sense of un-
certainty as politics in the U.S. takes us outside of our comfort zone. In addition to the current climate, headlines are screaming
that robots and artificial intelligence are going to eliminate our jobs in the near future! But what if we are looking at this all
wrong? What if we are extrapolating the present and ignoring the possibilities of the future? What if we are defaulting to the neg-
ative without considering the very real possibility that a new wave of prosperity may be around the corner. NOW is the time to
consider, “What Happens Next?”

profound impact on the people he came into contact with. Marty’s simple philosophies show what happens when you take time to
listen to people and demonstrate a constant sense of gratitude. This will be an hour out of your day that you will talk and think
about for years to come.

2. Creating Value: Your Secret Ingredient to Success
Sean Payant, Chief Consulting Officer, Haberfeld
High performing organizations and individuals create value, both internally and externally, by operating with integrity, adapt-
ing to the needs of others and modeling what is expected. With so many competing priorities, executing leadership and val-
ue creation strategy is crucial to achieving results. During this session, we will explore high payoff activities that drive results

3:40 pm - 4:45 pm The Amazon Prime Effect: Surviving in the New Subscription Society
Dave DeFazio, StrategyCorps
Subscription services are quickly becoming the dominate strategy of today’s best retailers and have caused a monumental
shift in the way people buy. More than 50% of all American households now subscribe to Amazon Prime and more than 200
million people subscribe to this and other retail services such as Netflix, Spotify, Costco and AAA. Bank management and
directors have a duty to understand these trends and drive their banks beyond just transactions to connect better with the
lifestyles of today’s modern consumers. This will be eye-opening!

Join us on an emotional roller coaster ride as V.J. describes how Marty, an unforgettable cash-
ier at a local big box store, had a profound impact on the people who went through his check-
out line. Marty became a legend in an unexpected place because he treated everybody with
dignity, kindness and respect. As V.J. says, “Marty was living proof that you don’t need money,
power or title to make a difference in life. You just need to care.”
"Recently I attended a convention and like every convention there was a keynote speaker. I've
attended lots of conventions with most would say are top keynote speakers ranging from Presi-
dents of the United States to Bill Gates. So, for this convention, V.J. Smith was the keynote
speaker. Hmmm, never heard of him. He was going to have to impress me along with the other
attendees that voiced the same thoughts to me. What we got was an incredible story. There
wasn't a dry eye in the house. V.J. Smith had captivated his audience."
