Executive Summary

Logistics industry in India is an industry that has not achieved its much deserved attention or

recognition. It is an area that is ripe with potential and yet the resources are far from complete

utilizations. There is however a huge demand for logistic services in India especially with the

growth of the Indian economy along with the influx of new companies in sectors that was

otherwise unknown. Estimated at a value of $14 billion US dollars this industry is slated for

another 9% to 10% growth in the years to come.

Nippon Express Company, Ltd., was established in 1937 in line with the Nippon Tsu-un

Kaisha Law as a semi-government transportation enterprise. The Company was created by

pooling the assets of Kokusai Tsu-un KK (International Express Co., Ltd.), which

consolidated many of the nation's small-scale rail transport companies, and six other

competitors, with additional funding from the Japanese government. . In 1950, under the

Express Business Act and the Commercial Law Act, the company was relaunched as a private

concern. Since that time, Nippon Express has expanded and developed its business in tandem

with the Japanese economy as a whole.

This study focuses on documenting the chain of operational activities taking place which will

provide an operational guidance and procedures to the employees at various department in

NIPPON EXPRESS.

The project commenced with an initial task to grab the basic knowledge of the company.

After that know the process of import forwarding, custom clearance, documents required and

process of export forwarding.

This manual lists the all the tasks that are essential for their business success, how to do these

tasks, and who is responsible for the tasks.

Most of the information was gathered in face to face interaction with employees and

concerned persons, which helped in getting an insight of the operation procedure of the

company.
