Each year, students of all ages begin their education by completing a certificate that includes a credential at the end of their studies. Credentials provide access to great careers in healthcare, business, manufacturing, and more. They can also serve as the foundation to continue their studies toward additional certifications or an associate degree.

Fast Facts about Certificates:

• They can often be completed in two-semesters

• They equip students with in-demand skills

• They often lead to promotions and career advancements

• They provide industry-recognized credentials

• Many qualify for financial aid

High-school age students can pursue certificates while in high school as part of the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. The only exception are a few certificates that have age requirements to participate. These students may also qualify for a Tuition Freedom Scholarship after high school graduation.

Adult students often use a certificate to align their studies to their current job, or even to prepare to advance with their current employer.

Every student who completes a certificate can continue their studies, by pursuing another certificate, or expanding their studies toward an associate degree. There are even opportunities for students to combine multiple certificates into an associate degree.

Certificates can be a stepping stone in your education, or the goal of your education. NC State provides certificates in business, healthcare, manufacturing, public service and STEM areas of study. Financial aid is available for many certificates, and some are available completely online.
