CFM56 COMBUSTION CHAMBER CRMA includes “Multi-hole” Tech insertion in its repair offering CRMA, the AFI KLM E&M Center of Excellence on Combustors, has recently expanded its combustion chamber offering and strengthened its overall CFM56 module capability. CRMA is the only European MRO shop and the first non-OEM engine shop worldwide to propose this repair. The issue: Currently-operated new-generation CFM56-5B/ CFM56-7B engines are fitted with multi-hole tech insertion combustion chambers. Until CRMA developed this ground-breaking repair, no heavy repair solution had been available. The adaptive solution developed by AFI KLM E&M CRMA’s industrial policy is based on powerful key drivers: Our priority: time to market repair development and doing it Right the First Time Repair design to be included in OEM’s ESM. An innovative approach, part of our new stance CRMA worked closely with engine maker CFMI to develop repair processes under a licensing policy. In addition, CRMA demonstrated its know how on Hi-Tech multi-holes repair and leveraged its proven expertise technology on GE90 and GP7200 engines. CRMA engineering team builts up its experience on the repairs already developed on those Very Big Engines requiring similar repair processes. Our know-how of these particular technologies helped us to speed up the learning curve on CFM56 repairs. In a nutshell, the “Multi-hole” Tech insertion repair is an innovation that uses laser drilling in a critical area, which was the main process to master. The challenges to face were: Drilling holes of different diameters and at different angles Parts usually heavily distorted when removed from the engine Specific Peening to open blocked holes according to Airflow Bench test results. Adding this repair to its catalogue, CRMA has further confirmed its excellence in developing ground-breaking repair processes, a major driver in cutting maintenance costs for operating airlines. Key benefits Repair rather than replace (once again, CRMA highlights the benefits of its stance of repairing instead of replacing) Cost reduction: up to USD 300,000 Cuts parts waiting for repair solutions (too many parts were on shelves) An innovative, Hi-Tech repair applicable to a variety of engine types: CFM56-5B & -7B, GE90, GP7200, GEnx An OEM-approved repair CRMA offered to all customers
