Volcanic  Radio  Show                            Sci-­‐8:  Mr.  Choquette        

       Optional  Enrichment  Assignment  –  Chapter  9    This  assignment  is  optional  and  intended  to  allow  students  who  are  highly  motivated  to  demonstrate  their  creativity  and  content  mastery.    Prepare  a  mock  radio  program  about  a  volcanic  eruption  of  one  of  the  following  volcanoes:    

• Mt.  Saint  Helens  • Nevado  del  Ruiz  • Vesuvius  • Mount  Pinatubo  

   Research  the  historical  events  and  present  them  clearly  and  accurately  as  if  you  were  reporting  the  event  on  the  day  of  the  eruption.    You  will  need  to  write  and  submit  a  script  with  your  audio  recording.    Students  will  voice  act  as  the  news  reporter  but  should  also  voice  act  as  at  least  one  other  person  who  has  been  directly  effected  in  an  interview.    Students  should  also  include  and  opening  newscast  station  identification,  a  station  “jingle,”  and  various  sound  effects  to  give  their  radio  newscast  authenticity.    The  newscast  should  also  include  evidence  of  understanding  of  the  technical  terminology  from  Chapter  9.1-­‐9.3.      Digital  files  should  be  emailed  to  Mr.  Choquette  before  March  13th.    No  late  work  will  be  accepted;  no  exceptions.    My  email:  cchoquette@kas.kh.edu.tw      Please  ask  questions  about  this  assignment  in  class.    If  you  have  a  question  there  are  probably  classmates  that  also  share  your  question  but  are  too  shy  to  speak  up.
