CHRIST THE KING CHURCH TOLEDO, OHIO (Member of the St. Agnes Deanery) May 24, 2020

PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners,

After years of watching the missionaries who had been living in his village, a Chinese man decided to ask to be baptized. Because of their conduct, he knew the missionaries were people of honesty and integrity. And, he wanted to be like them. After his baptism, the man was overjoyed to be, as he put it, a brother and a friend of Jesus. Many of his fellow villagers were shocked that he had become a Christian, but they knew him to be a good and honest man. If he said that this was what God wanted him to do, then it must be so.

Some time after his baptism, the new Christian was enticed to cheat in a business transaction. Upon his re-fusal, his tempter asked, “Why won’t you do what everybody else does all the time? We all do a little bit of cheating just to stay successful in business. No one needs to know, and even if they did, they wouldn’t hold it against you.”

The new Christian stood up and said, “I won’t cheat because three people will know I cheated. You will know, I will know, and Jesus will know. Jesus is my brother, and I would hate for Him to find that He has befriended some-one untrustworthy. I cannot be dishonest without bringing dishonor to my brother and friend.”

If those with whom you live and work were asked what they know about you as a Christian, what do you think they would say? Have a great week!

Love, Fr. Bill

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You

sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

PARISH NEWS Parish Nurse Tip of the Week

Improving Your Sleep Patterns

This month we have talked about the benefits of routine actions as we prepare our body for sleep. Sleep experts remind us of the importance to develop a “preparatory pattern” at bedtime.

Did you know that we spend 33% of our lives asleep? A big factor in how well we sleep may be related to the mattress. An old or uncomfortable mattress may be related to aches and pains, tossing and turning, and sleep that is not as restful and restora-tive as it should be.

You should wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed. If that’s not how you feel, take a look at your mattress and evaluate its condition.

Have you had a better night’s sleep at a hotel or at a friend’s house than you get at home? If so, your mattress is not doing its job and needs to be replaced.

The life span of a mattress is no more than five to seven years. It’s time to replace it once you reach that threshold. Also, make sure your pillows are supporting your neck and spine properly. Most pillows should be replaced annually.

Thank you for Supporting Christ the King!

RECONNECTING INFORMATION

May 21, 2020

Dear Parishioners, May this communication find each of you doing well, and slowly adjusting to our new normal. Over the past several weeks, I have been contemplating what Mass will look like at Christ the King. What is outlined here is what the staff, the Pastoral Council, and I believe are the best practices for our facilities to ensure everyone’s safety as we return to the public celebra-tion of the liturgy. WEEKEND MASSES

Starting the weekend of May 30 and 31, our weekend Mass schedule will be: Saturday, 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, 8:00 a.m. (not 8:30); 10:00 a.m.; and 12:00 noon. At this time, we will not have a 6:00 p.m. Sunday Mass. The church doors will open 30 minutes prior to Mass. They will be locked immediately after each Mass for sanitizing per the Diocesan guidelines.

Everyone is asked to enter through the front (bell tower) doors of the church; all the other doors will be locked. Additional handicapped parking will be available near the front entrance. All doors may be used for exiting the building.

Everyone who comes to Mass at Christ the King is asked to wear a mask, except those children 2 years of age and younger. Please bring a mask from home.

The Ascension of the Lord

RECONNECTING INFORMATION

Parishioners will receive a weekly e-mail reminder to complete a brief sign-up form for that weekend’s Mass. Those without internet access are asked to call our parish office at 419-475-4348 and let us know which Mass they will attend. Ushers will direct seating per social distancing guidelines. Once the church is at capacity, the overflow will go to the gym where a separate Mass will take place. Seating will be on a first come basis.

An example of the sign-up can be seen on the last page of this letter. The actual sign-up will be sent weekly on Thurs-day at 12:00 noon and stay open until Friday at 6:00 p.m. to allow time to set up as necessary. This may seem cumber-some, but will help us anticipate and use resources wisely.

WEEKDAY MASS

Weekday Masses will resume on Tuesday, May 26, at 8:00 a.m. The front doors will be opened at 7:30 a.m.

Everyone who comes to Christ the King is asked to wear a mask.

Social Distancing guidelines will be followed.

Sign-ups are not currently required for our weekday Masses. WHAT TO EXPECT AT MASS

Masks are to be worn by everyone over the age of 2 years and are only to be removed while receiving communion.

Rows will be clearly marked; kindly follow all posted instructions.

Please maintain 4 chairs between you and the next person who is not part of your household.

Bulletins will be on each chair and will also be your worship aid. Please take the bulletin home with you. This will help us know where to sanitize after each Mass.

The holy water fonts and baptismal font will remain empty.

There will be no processions. There will be designated places for your gift to the parish near the entrance/exit. Please consider making your gift via our online service located at www.cktoledo.org or on our parish app. Do not hold hands during the Our Father. Folding one’s hands in prayer is an appropriate posture.

The sign of peace will not occur as it is not a necessary part of the liturgy.

You will receive Communion at your chair. Ministers will walk in the empty rows to distribute the Eucharist to the faithful, who will stand and receive in the hand.

Please do not gather in the church before or after Mass. You may converse before or after in the parking lot, respectfully maintaining proper social distancing.

DISPENSATION FROM THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND SUNDAY MASS

The faithful of the Diocese of Toledo continue to be dispensed from their Sunday obligation until further notice. We are reopening with an understanding of the desire of so many of the faithful to return to our churches. It remains important for those who are at greater risk (the elderly, sick, and those with pre-existing conditions) to refrain, and be encouraged to re-frain, from returning to public liturgies until such time as they feel comfortable and confident to do so.

If you are nervous about returning to weekend Masses, consider attending a weekday Mass where we anticipate smaller crowds until you feel more comfortable. All of our Masses will continue to be live-streamed. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AND PRIVATE PRAYER

Eucharistic Adoration will take place on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. beginning on June 1. During this time the monstrance will be placed in the narthex. Each adorer is asked to exercise social distancing measures while praying. Other days private prayer is available in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel before Mass. The furniture and kneelers have been re-moved from the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and replaced with folding chairs for the time being. Only three people are per-mitted in the chapel at a time.

The church proper will be closed after each Mass. However, the faithful who wish may spend time in prayer in the narthex, which will be available until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

CHRIST THE KING CHURCH TOLEDO, OHIO (Member of the St. Agnes Deanery) May 24, 2020

RECONNECTING INFORMATION

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILATION

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Saturdays beginning on May 30, 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the church. Please remain in the narthex until the person before you leaves church. Only face-to-face confessions will be available at this time. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be available by appointment only. The monthly First Saturday anointing after Mass is suspended until further notice. These are difficult and challenging times for all of us, and I simply ask for your patience as we return to Mass. You have no idea how excited Fr. Joseph and I are to see you again. One day I hope we shall look back at these days with memories of everyone working together for the common good. Until that time, let us remember something St. Paul asked, “What can separate us from the love of Christ?” The answer — no one and nothing can. So, the experience of Mass may look differ-ent, but the love of Christ is still here… still present in our community… and still gathering us as the Body of Christ. May God bless you all. Fr. Bill Rose
